Was reported on FoxSports Friday night coverage that Parfitt and Cockatoo were in negotiations for new deals. Mots would wait until R16-18 to do so.

If this is Motlop's last season, he gets my vote. At some stages, he has been one of our best 2 players. The other 2 look really promising, but a bit of catching up to do.

I think Motlop is definitely under appreciated by fans now after last pre season. Outside players are under appreciated by fans generally, until you don't have any, and Motlop hasn't done himself a lot of favours on the perception front coming back overweight in 2016 and the long drawn out contract negotiations.

I think Christensen is a good comparison to Parfitt. Christensen more of a natural forward of centre player and goal kicker than Parfitt. Parfitt smarter inside and with his evasiveness and vision hopefully he has more longevity than Christensen as an inside mid. Christensen had a pretty reckless style in there and at his stature it was dangerous, with the multiple concussions and injuries cutting his career down. Hopefully Parfitt can avoid that but when he does move into the engine room he will be up against blokes like Kennedy 6 inches taller and 15kg heavier. It's a big ask. Outside Sam Mitchell not many have done it recently. Kerr was very good and while he was a different level to Christensen ability wise, as far as injuries went he had a similar career profile.

I am a card carrying member of the Cockatoo fan club. He just has all the attributes of a special player. The speed, the power, the size, the strength, the ability to grab the footy and exit stoppages at full tilt. They are the attributes of the Judd, Goodes, Ablett, Burgoyne, Dangerfield class of player. Whether he can learn to accumulate the footy over time like Ablett and Dangerfield did is the query. Some are shaken in their faith this year but I am rusted on.

i was reading this thread and for some reason the name Allen Christensen sprung to mind, everything thats been said about parfitt and cockatoo on here was said about poor allen a few years ago, sadly for poor allen it hasnt worked out that way

Best rookie players I've seen at Geelong (not having been around in 1984) were Bundy, Selwood and Spriggs. One outta three...

Define Career. Number of games? Number of games as a Geelong player? Most awards? Some would say best finals player and I certainly am starting to lean that way. Great players re defined in the career defining games.
So far Motlop has failed to get anywhere near his best in finals , but if its is to be he is primed this year.Our game style suits him far more this year than last. He is too hot and cold to ever be my favourite player but when on has the potential to be game shaping
The other two is far too early to call..but one suspects that with experience Parfitt will be a more consistent type of player , and Cockatoo more explosive and a burst player. To compare to a paragon of types..one is a Selwood type and the other a GA senior type..

It's an interesting one. I'd almost say that Chapman had the best performances in finals, but GAJ was the best player to ever wear the hoops.

Parfitt to me has a similar body to Allen Christensen and plays mid very good comparison. That's why I wonder if physically parfitt will develop.

I think cockatoo is a bit different body wise and not really a mid

Motlop. He's proven he can stay in a side for years, which is hard enough considering the average AFL player career is something like 32 senior games. The other two, I don't know.

Parfitt the better overall player. His height isn't so much an issue, there are many midfielders around the 180-183 size, and 179 isn't much off that. Zorko, Neale and Prestia are proof that you can have elite midfielders under 180cm. He reads the play very well, has some nice evasiveness like a Sam Mitchell to create space from his opponent.

Cockatoo will have the best highlights reel. Seems to be an impact player in bursts, and probably not the most natural reader of the play, so he will struggle to accumulate.

Motlop the most goals, and probably the most consistent outside player of the three.

I haven't really bought into the Motlop bashing so far, but he made some very costly mistakes last night.
