Time to drop Lobbe?

Lobbe was a warrior last year. Thought his second half of season was better than any other player for consistency and effectiveness maybe bar Gray.

This year he has looked so physically weak. Has lacked mongrel and leadership. Acknowledge he missed a fair bit of pre-season but how long b4 we see him being effective. As mentioned earlier teams are using more mobile rucks to great effect. Very concerned about are depth in this area.

It is not time to drop Lobbe but it is time for some sensible selection policy.

Without Ryder we set Lobbe to ruck against two 199cm+ opponents as we did for most of last year. What is wrong with Redden is he injured again or has he simply fallen off the selector's radar?

Looking at Geelong's list they have eleven players over 197cm on the list. Not sure how many we have.

Imagine if Schulz said the same thing about repeat runs to the wing and boundary line:

Out. J Schulz
In: J Neade
I can't see the comparison and it seems you have a bit of a been in your Bonet on this?

Repeat runs is AFL norms and if you can't do it you don't play. Comparing that to playing a position is totally different.

At what stage do the midfielders accept responsibility?
It's a good point. The calls for drop Young, Sam Gray and Paul Stewart won't achieve much at all. Neade, Moore and Arch will have the same calls in a few weeks.

There is a greater underlying issue. Where had the courage to relentlessly run gone?

Young really pissed me off last night. Got a half of footy and did nothing. Take your opportunities. Stewart looks ordinary and Sam Gray isn't AFL material for a whole game.

We are matching stats but we aren't transitioning into fwd 50. Skills are a problem.

Nice to see you've already made a call on these players before they've even had half the chances that the first three have had.

I haven't made the call. I want them.all in if we can fit them.in. my point is when the same issues arise these guys will most likely be the ones being thrown up to be dropped. Rinse and repeat.

Gray Stewart Young are only a small bit part of the problem. If people think otherwise join the facebook combya group where ever thing is bliss.

Look at out stinky game plan to start with where our mids were clearly instructed to panic kick clear of the contest. Straight to surplus Geelong defenders.

Look at the horrendous ball use of our midfielders.

Look at our desire to kick the line with minimal courage to run at the defense and take the game on.

If dropping this said 3 will change that I'm all for it.

Or what about a Ruckman that can take a mark at least once a game or play with some courage with our fearing failure Eg tapping to opposing ruck when he could have taken the ball cleanly in the ball up with time and space.

That kick out of the contest is a good thing. Its the guys up forward that must be in front to get the ball.

In defense, if we don't get rid of it, we get done htb. It happens to all teams. Late in the game, it looked bad because they clogged the fwd line. Notice we had 10 or so players manless in the middle of the ground to try and spread it out.

Skills are terrrible, no disagreement there.

Over 197 cm:

Lobbe 200cm
Redden 205cm
Frampton 200cm
Howard 199cm
Westhoff 199cm

Really most quick kicks went to out numbered forwards. Not much they could do there.

It's also dumb when they set back for it. Out quick give handball and run at the player would have been more effective. Especially with our better quality mids.

Trengove is our best non ruckman ruck. Players being asked to play different roles and positions is the norm in AFL. Westhoff is next to useless in ruck, Trengove can actually completely turn a game in there and win us momentum. His body may take a battering but that is football. It isn't a complete committment to the team and a committment to doing everything it takes to win, if he prefers to have a witches hat do the rucking for us because he is concerned about what might happen. There would be dozens of others switching positions and roles, players running themselves in to the ground and who get bashed around contests and cop injuries but I haven't heard of them say "I prefer not to", and hypothetically if they have, I haven't seen Ken grant their request at the expense of how he wants us to play footy. It is not helping the team, and isn't the selfless approach required from a leader at the club.

Atm yes he has to be dropped. His form has been atrocious but last night he was beaten by Geelong's 2 ruckman policy which would be next to impossible to ruck against. I rucked for 10 years in my footy career and there is no possible way to ruck against a ruckman and a ruck rover in contests. His around the ground work is atrocious though I feel.

He never said he wouldn't do it, he just said he prefers not to do it. His build isn't conclusive to it either. I actually like Trengove as a ruck also, more than a 5 minute bit player. Members such as finbarr criticized me for it, as he's a CHB and too good to waste in the ruck, risking him to injuries, which I agree.

I have changed my stance on it, but I believe the aspiration he isn't a team player because he prefers to not ruck is way off. I always feel he's a Port club man, so Id suggest we all relax a little.

He averages the lowest hit outs to advantage % of all the top 25 ruckmen in the league. Concerning.

Easy for me to say this, but I've been concerned with his ruck work and marking for how many years now? Redden is our best ruck by a country mile, he would push Lobbe out easily if fit, we need Redden. I'd trade Lobbe for a first rounder in a heart beat if it was attainable.

He has been pretty bad all season since coming back from injury. If both Trengove and Ryder fit, Lobbe or Schulz could have a nervous time coming selection next week. However, I don't think our coaches will do something so dramatic a game before the bye.

I think you've forgotten Redden's game against Sydney very quickly.
