Hardly a poor move. Hornacek isn't hard hard and really struggles to draw up plays. Yes a coach is only as good as his players but the Suns keep making the same mistakes over and over. Often his post comments suggest he says one thing and the players do another. These guys need a ruthless leader more than anything
Is this a legit rumour l2m4g? Heard anything?

Kieff and thibs..... Could be an interesting vibe

A little on RealGM but nothing more than speculation. Wouldn't read too much into at this stage

A one point victory against the Bucks...

I'll take it.

I saw something from bucher.... Lulz

There's a reason Bucher rhymes with puker.

Why don't more NBA teams (like the Pellies) have the balls to do what the Celtics did and take a punt on a young college coach, with a somewhat unconventional approach like Brad Stevens ?

I hardly think (with all due respect) that Sac-Town will go anywhere with Boy George as coach ..

Ditto Lakers with Byron Scott ..

Despite the failures of Pitino and Calipri in the past, no reason why great college coaches can't make it in the NBA these days.

Boston took a fairly big punt on Bradley Kent Stevens, and it looks like paying off, wish other clubs did the same TBH.

Wasn't aware that Monty was a re-tread coach...

We've tried to do what Atlanta is currently doing - doesn't seem to be working out too badly with them. And I say this with the greatest of ambivalence towards Monty as a coach.

Why? Because he has no history of success with small market teams before? o_O

Ditto Lakers with Byron Scott ..

I hardly think Karl and Byron Scott belong in the same sentence.

Now if you wanted to criticise the Lakers for their hiring policy - Brown, Pringles, Scott - you'd have a more cogent argument.

Aren't Utah doing something similar with Quin Snyder? Or Cleveland taking a chance with Blatt?

Any new coach - whether it be promotion from the assistant ranks, from the NCAA or from Europe - carries a risk.

For every Thibs there is a Brian Shaw, and for every Brad Stevens there is a Rick Pitino.

Honestly I don't see the point with Karl... Then again I didn't see the point in firing Malone....

Credibility.

Winning a championship isn't the short term goal there, making the team fun again for fans and players is the objective. They're also in the window where they should be trying to compete rather than accrue more draft picks - their best players are all in or entering their primes, which is Karl's specialty.

Nine years of utter misery, a new building on the way and a superstar big man to keep happy kinda mandated that they needed a coach with cred.

Have to wonder why so many NBA players are dying prematurely these days, its very sad ..

Assuming they stayed 'healthy' in retirement it would be related to gigantism. Not the precise term I'm looking for but I think vital organs tend to be more prone to failing in people who are abnormally large. I am not a doctor.

Big rumour growing is that Thibs will replace Hornacek at PHX next season. Poor move by the Suns if that happens, Horny was nearly coach of the season last year, a few front office player management issues are more pertinent to their current woes.

Really thought Phoenix were getting their act together as a franchise. Horrible move to get rid of Horny IMO. But then I don't watch PHX that often, so can't really assess if the coach isn't partly to blame for their season fizzing somewhat.
A ross lyon type move

A ross lyon type move

That's a really nice analogy, I like that - even down to the colour schemes!

Spewing i won't get to watch the dubs-hawks game live.

I spent far too much time in NY glued to my brother's TV because of how easy it was to get wall-to-wall coverage of games.

There are some interesting games tomorrow - Miami/Portland, Indy/Chicago, Boston/OKC, Spurs/Bucks - but Hawks/Dubs should be a doozy.

Sucks that Klay will be out though.

Pitino, first two years in Boston - .417 winning percentage
Stevens, first two years in Boston - .372 winning percentage

Food for thought when you're rating these guys...

Doubt it. Most people who genuinely have that disease (AKA Acromegaly) would struggle to be professional athletes in the first place, and tend to have a bit of a "circus freak" appearance about them (oversized facial features, etc.) as well.

Probably true, but it's not due to gigantism.

True.... But at least brad has a competent gm...

Rick was head coach/gm/president...Far too much on his plate there

The I hate Christian Laettnar docu airs tonight in Australia on ESPN (foxtel) in case anyone is interested...
Really enjoyed it.
