Oh I wonder if this is true or not:

"Blucher also confirmed, when asked about the reported clause in Tippett's last contract, that he could be traded to the club of his choice for a second-round draft pick: "There is an understanding between the parties, they would help get him to the club of his choice." But he added, it was also recognised that arrangements had to be "commercial" in the deal."

Adelaide have allowed themselves to be completely bent over if this is the case, and deserve anything they get.
When did he sign that?

Its unusual but if he was only worth about a 2nd rounder at the time... and if a big part of him signing on was knowing that the Crows would get him where he wants to go if he ever wants to leave... it makes a tiny bit of sense I guess?

came online to post this.. have heard that he didn't want to sign his last contract with adelaide, and they convinced him to sign with this clause being included in his contract.. how true it is, who knows? if it does turn out to be true i'd hope we do offer up something decent in return regardless of the clause

I'm inclined to go this way as well, but if it can be done in the right spirit it is more the "Sydney way" and works better for us down the track.
Like how you got mumford?

Kurt Tippett seems like the sort of bloke that when all of this is said and done, will come out in the media and tell his side of the story..........no doubt some journo will be pressing him to know if this clause did exist, and no doubt he will tell.

Best deal for Sydney........let him slide to the PSD and let someone else have him.
Not worth the reported 800K........but I guess you do have that much extra in your cap
Reported being the operative word. All sorts of figures being pulled from places where the sun don't shine.

I'm inclined to let him pass as well, especially if it means breaking up our premiership side too much.

You couldnt pay me that much to live in Sydney.......but on the other hand if it meant leaving Adelaide, then yeah.....why not.
You could pay me that much to live in Adelaide. Easily.

great news :thumbsu:

sydney will have to give us something good or he will be sent to the psd .

get ready to lose one of your young guns sydney, it will happen.

Some how as a Swans supporter, I don't quite feel like the loser you are trying to make out of this whole situation.

I get the feeling that a well run club such as the Swans, have this all worked out so as to ONLY IMPROVE our current situation as the 2012 premier.

I we wish to give up Josh Kennedy, we will. (haha)

Tippett WON'T be unhappy if he went to GC or Brisbane via the draft should they match our financial offer.
If they or anyone else don't match our superior offer, then he can fall through the draft to us & Adelaide will get nothing for their efforts.
Adelaide will take the best they can get from anyone. They won't let him slip through for nothing.

Pick 22 alone is a valuable commodity if it is the best they can get. We will not give up a required player. We will give up a fringe player or a promising youngster on the cusp of senior footy. That player may go to a Melbourne club that needs someone with a few years under his belt.

Jed Lamb is an example with Jesse White or TDL thrown in. Jed Lamb is not far playing senior football & the opposition scouts may already have shown interest in him.
Do the Bulldogs or Melbourne go after Jed lamb or once again risk 2 years into a young player that isn't quite ready. We have put plenty of work into Jed Lamb.

Pure speculation but no better or worse than some of the other rubbish on here.

Basically, the Swans know what has to be done & I've no reason to worry otherwise.

"It is obvious the Swans have a very special culture. I look forward to being a part of it, and playing a role in that team that can be in the premiership mix next year and beyond."

does this bloke seem to think that the Basil Sellers Centre used a material called culture built into it?

as a senior player at his club, he has the opportunity to shape the way the Crows go about their work and build a culture and legacy there. seems like he doesn't want to do the hard work, to be an influence at the club, and to set the example and implement change.

comment can also be taken as a cop out to sanderson and the rest of the group at the Crows.

There is no mythical aura at the Swans. The culture at the Swans is about sacrifice and improvement. It's about never accepting the status quo. It's about Kaizen.

Not fair enough, and its disappointing to see a usually clear headed person such as yourself bendong over to trolls. There were years we struggled to pay the minimum, and heavily front ended contracts. That we have enough space to get tippett isn't surprising, and what I'm hearing is it'll be 22 + white.
Not everything is a troll and that word is thrown around too often. Sydney wins the premiership and might possible land one of the biggest names during trade week, so obviously that's going to raise eyebrows in regards to a strong team getting stronger. Yes, there are good points for either side of the argument but it's a legitimate thread and a topical discussion at the moment.

So it's not bending over, it's reading and recognising an opposing opinion and letting the site flow. Proceed.

Best deal for Sydney, Jessie White and Pick 22.

PING!!

That's better than the Crows had signed up for. Wow.......................second round pick!

This is just brilliant by the Swans! Not too great by the Crows. I guess they were just desperate to keep him for 3 years before GC could get him when they entered the comp but didn't foresee that he may use the clause to get to another top club.

Wow.

Our culture remains intact!!:D

Ohh yeah..............................& we won the 2012 premiership as an added bonus!

From his manager:
"it's very hard to look in the eyes of teammates who you've just played a preliminary final with and say, 'I'm leaving'.

Didn't he text message his teammates to tell them he was off?

I'm pretty sure they confirmed there was the clause or "gentlemens agreement" that if he was to leave the Crows would make sure he got to where he was going. I believe though that it was a "go home" clause and once he started shopping himself around the Crows said "you're leaving for $ and not to go back to QLD, so all bets are off". Now his manager is saying they still need to adhere to the agreement. They've already said multiple times the 2nd rounder stuff isn't true, but what's her name keeps on saying its true and reckons she's had confirmation from Crows management on it.

So you would rather get nothing for him than get less than what you think he's worth?
It's more about the gain from getting say pick 22 VS how much better Tippett would make Sydney. Crows will be in competition with Sydney, so you don't want to make them heaps better while not improving out of the deal yourself. GC or GWS aren't direct competition, so you make them better, but you're not in competition for a top 4 spot with them.

He's talking crap.

Crows have disclosed there was an understanding that the Crows wouldn't be unreasonable if he wanted to go home; Sydney isn't 'home' so the agreement is void.

If they genuinely wanted to they would have but were not prepared to give up player that were higher on the pecking order than him to do so

Geelong had just won a flag. The player on the higher pecking order deserved a pay increase. Would you be content with TDL getting a pay increase but Morton being left on the same wage?

When you win a flag, the salary cap is designed to curtail spending. Geelong had their hands tied as Mumford was offered a contract Geelong were unable to match. No club could have afforded to poach a Mumford by inducing his salary like the Swans did with the COI crock.

Ditto with Hawthorn and Kennedy.
