In what capacity at the moment?

Actually, I'm not sure. I thought he still worked with Brisbane, but that ended last year. Found this though:

"Reid is seeking legal advice after The Age on Tuesday inferred he had breached confidentiality by telling Brisbane of the side deal while he worked as a consultant for the Lions in 2010 and last year."

So perhaps he's working as a consultant? If he's not in the industry, I can't see how he can be charged. He certainly should be questioned though.

The following statement was released today by AFL General Manager Football Operations Adrian Anderson.

"In accordance with AFL Player Rule 17, which relates to the enforcement of the AFL Draft and Total Player Payments, I have today charged the Adelaide Crows Football Club, Adelaide Crows Chief Executive Officer Steven Trigg, former Adelaide Crows General Manager Football Operations John Reid and Adelaide Crows listed-player Kurt Tippett each with the following two charges:

Charge 1

Contrary to Rule 17 of the Rules, in or about September and October 2009, you engaged in conduct prejudicial to the Draft.

Charge 2

Contrary to Rule 17 of the Rules, between September 2009 and October 2012, you engaged in conduct in breach of the Total Player Payments provisions in the Rules.

"Again in accordance with Rule 17, the Adelaide Crows FC, Mr Trigg, Mr Reid and player Tippett were today advised in writing of the charges.

“The Adelaide Crows FC, and each of the three individuals, have been advised their charges will be heard before the full AFL Commission next Monday, November 19, at 1pm at AFL House," Mr Anderson said.

As background to all media, the AFL wishes to re-state key parts of the AFL Player Rules, which are as follows:

Under Rule 17, the AFL may investigate any matters relating to conduct prejudicial to the National Draft and / or conduct in breach of the Total Player Payments provisions.

If after conducting an investigation, the AFL suspects that any person or Club has or may have engaged in conduct prejudicial to the National Draft and / or in conduct in breach of the Total Player Payments provisions, charges may be laid against the person or the Club.

The Commission has the power to impose penalties as it sees fit, including:

a. Clubs - financial sanctions and / or eligibility to participate in up to four draft selection meetings and / or loss of the right to register any player to whom a rule breach relates;

b. Players - financial sanctions and / or exclusion from the right to participate in the Draft process.

c. Club Staff - financial sanctions and / or the right to perform any role for or on behalf of the Club.

It is not appropriate for the AFL to make any further comment before next week’s hearing by the full AFL Commission.

So it looks as though it will be a hefty fine and draft exclusion. We won't be losing premiership points so that will shut up idiots on the main board

I found this - amendments that have been made THIS year to rule 17:

Amendments to Rule 17
Clarified the definition of conduct prejudicial to the Draft by:
o Expressly prohibiting arrangements which would have the effect or purpose of preventing or
discouraging a Club from drafting a particular Player;
o Clarifying that players who nominate terms before entering the draft, must not have a side
agreement to provide their services to the new Club on different terms to those nominated which could discourage other Clubs (ie. 3 year $1.5 million deal cannot in reality be a 4 year $1.6 million deal);
o Expressly prohibiting conduct by a Club or Associate of a Club in connection with the drafting of a Player in contravention of the proposed new ‘no commissions’ rule (see below).
Introducing a new offence of ‘conduct prejudicial to the Player Movement Rules’. This offence relates to conduct that has the purpose or effect of prejudicing the natural operation of the rules relating to exchanges (Rule 4.3) or free agency (Rule 38). Conduct that is prohibited by these rules expressly includes:
o Where players receive benefits in cash or kind other than as contemplated by the Rules; o Where contracted players receive benefits in cash or kind less than what is specified in
documents lodged with AFL under the Free Agency Rule;
o Where a player is contracted through the Free Agency process and agrees or is likely to
provide services on terms other than those specified in documents lodged with AFL under the Free Agency Rule. For example in the matching offer process a 3 year $1.5 million deal cannot in reality be a 4 year $1.6 million deal;
o Where a player(s) or Club becomes bound to an exchange under Rule 4.3 prior to the exchange period;
o Where a Club or Associate of a Club engages in conduct by a Club or Associate of a Club in connection with an exchange or other player movement mechanism (other than the Draft) in contravention of the proposed new ‘no commissions’ rule
Provided the General Manager – Football Operations with power to appoint an investigator. Currently the process of making appointments is cumbersome as it relies on Commission resolution.
Provided more serious sanctions for failing to co-operate with an investigation. Investigations in relation to Rule 17 involve serious matters and the previous sanctions (10 units) did not reflect this. Failure to co-operate may now be dealt with at the discretion of the Commission or General Manager – Football Operations as the case requires.

not looking good. its not a question of if you will lose draft picks but now a case of how many.

recall an article where sando said he expect to lose draft picks in each of the next two drafts.

financial saction will be under a mill IMO

trigg surely has to go?

That decision may be out of the board's hands. With him facing sanctions himself, he could be gone without the board having a say

So how does deregistration fit within the prescribed penalty for players?

The AFL has advised the Adelaide Football Club of charges arising from its investigation into contract arrangements with Kurt Tippett.

The Adelaide Football Club is determined to explain its position to members, sponsors and all stakeholders as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the Club notes that this matter is being investigated by the AFL as a direct result of our decision to report it and offer full assistance to the investigation.

Throughout the past three years and the recent trading period it was always the Club’s intention to comply fully with all AFL rules on the draft and player payments.

The Club draws attention to its exemplary record and reputation of total and willing compliance with all AFL rules that govern the draft and total player payments over the past 22 years.

We have the highest regard for those rules and the reason that they exist.

We will appear before the AFL Commission on Monday next week to respond in full. Out of respect for the AFL process, the Club is unable to provide further comment on the charges until that process is complete.

Well that's a straight out lie.
