Look, without wanting to sound like a troll, why exactly should Tippett demand such a high price (both in terms of money and trade)? He's never kicked more than 60 goals in a year, he's dreadfully inconsistent, and he's never shown an ability to spearhead an attack. Heath Grundy, who you guys have been very quick to dismiss, has at least made an AA squad, and is only a year older. What's the logic here?

Seriously, I just don't get the Tippett hype. I'm really hoping we don't go after him, because I personally wouldn't trade Grundy for him, let alone Grundy and a pick.

He really isn't doing himself any favours at the moment, the Crows and all suitors would be starting to get PO at his inability to make a decision, has anyone gone back to check the vision of his head knocks to see if a brain was left on the field?

pretty simple, just ask your club.

so a million dollar a year KPF and ruckman rolled into one, who is second for contested marks, who is being chased by at least five clubs and probably more isn't even worth pick ten in the draft that would get you an unproven player who may not even amount to anything after 5 years of development? RIDICULOUS....anyone with an ounce of brains would take the guy who is approaching his prime and you know can make a major impact on your team rather than a complete unknown with years of training and development ahead of him

Well plugger and hall went for picks in the teens from recollection so yes, standing by the 10 pick or so mark.

Assuming he had one to start with? ;)

He's not announcing it on Fox FOoty, it was a joke update from AFL Free Agency and Trade Period Rumours on facebook.

"KURT TIPPETT has finally announced that he will be announcing where he is taking his talents, live on television. THE DECISION airs live on Fox Footy 8.30pm EST tonight. Don't miss it!"

They have had such other updates as

"WOW a secret trade has just emerged that no one was meant to know about. ADELAIDE and NORTH MELBOURNE have (what they thought was secretly) traded Scott Thompson for Scott Thompson.

The clubs weren't going to tell anyone because they thought it would be hilarious to surprise everyone when they ran out in their opening NAB Cup matches with the wrong Scott Thompson on their team."

and

"The AFL has confirmed that Port Adelaide will receive a packet of BBQ shapes and 3 Domino's pizza vouchers as compensation for losing Danyle Pearce and Troy Chaplin under the new Free Agency rules.

After hearing this news, Stuart Dew immediately put his hand up for the Power coaching job, stating "I'll work for free just gimme those ******* shapes and the pizzas!""

The second one was the best one.

The price is driven by Club's needs. We certainly felt that $Kirt was essential to our requirements, so much so we offered him a very substantial contract. Other Clubs are now apparently coming forward and offering more. So if your Club is offering more for $Kirt, then your Club values him even more than we did. It's not just that he can kick goals - because he can certainly do that, but because he can pinch hit in the ruck. Players like $Kirt are rare, and very valuable given the bench has been made smaller and Clubs can no longer carry two full time ruckmen into a game.

Tippett's management company is located in Brisbane of which Alastair Lynch is a Director. You'd think the Lions would be better informed than other clubs as to what's going on. And they look after Jonathan Brown too so they know a bit about Brisbane's key forward planning and requirements.

I can't see this happening to be honest. If they had put a massive contract to him, and Kurt was keen, they'd probably just approach us and ask they can take him as a second uncontracted player to ensure they get him. It's not like they'd be the ones compensating us in that scenario, and if it were a huge contract, we'd be compensated quite well by the AFL. GWS would be weary of trying to absolutely screw over other teams IMO. The tables will be turned before long, and every club in the league will be trying to pillage their list, so I think they'd rather maintain a reasonable relationship with other teams for when that happens, to try and secure fair trades for outgoing players.

They don't compensate us in that scenario, but they do make us stronger and push themselves back in the draft order beyond the first round (or worse in future drafts). It's also murky as to whether or not he could even be claimed under those rules as a second uncontracted player this year.

This isn't a friendly game of bridge, these footy clubs are out there trying to screw each other as hard as possible.

I'm starting to wonder why we offered him a new contract mate. The guys an over rated, over paid, self absorbed toss pot. Cant wait to see the back of him and already feel sorry for his future team mates.

Imagine for a second what you'd realistically want for Sam Reid and then compare the output of Reid and Tippett and I'm pretty sure you'll have your answer.

Roo has apparently said: If Tippett goes to Sydney then he'll not only be the most overpaid player in the AFL, but the most overrated. (Or something along those lines).

Pushing it regardless isn't he? Wherever he goes, his 2010-2012 form will not cut it at that salary, even his 2009 form isn't worth $900K+

For all the times that people on BF have used the "take this packet of chips and half eaten sandwich or we'll take him for nothing in the PSD", how often has it actually happened?

According to FAITH, GWS are also very keen for more compensation picks. Taking Tippett as a second uncontracted player means that there would likely be two more first-round compensation picks on the market that we may be willing to trade back to them for another mini-draft pick. In this scenario, at best, they end up with Tippett and more compensation picks without losing anything. At worst, they end up gaining Tippett without losing anything, except for being pushed back in the draft in the second round and beyond by a spot or two (which I don't think would overly concern them). I think it'll be quite a few years before we see GWS finishing above us on the ladder.

They had two years to sign uncontracted players, so I can't see why they couldn't take Tippett as a second uncontracted player with our permission.

Makes you think the whole Sydney thing is Bullshit as the leadership group would have to pass such a trade, i still think he is bound to QLD.

What you're overlooking is that if they request permission, then their intentions are in the open. Then we say **** off, we can do better than the shitty compensation picks by going to open market and trading with GC who have to come up with a good deal (pick 2?) because the threat of GWS taking him in the PSD is 100% real.

Talking of plugger, isnt this the same situation all over again?

High profile key forward leaves a club with high media attention to sydney to avoid the spotlight?

So tippett wasnt the first (and most likely wont be the last).

And what you're overlooking is that Tippett can just say no to any trade scenario we agree to with any other club, walk to the PSD, and go to GWS anyway. It doesn't make a difference whether they make their intentions open to us now or not. Unfortunately, the ball is in Tippett's court.
