You're still Plugger after he moved to another club and then retired 20 years ago

Haven't you read most of his non-footy posting? He still very much lives in the 90s. :drunk:

If Nick Riewoldt had put in a performance in 2009 or 2010 that was anywhere near as good as Boyd's in 2016, then your club would have 2 flags, it's as simple as that.

Ordinary players do win flags, but when they also contribute in a meaningful way, it makes the criticism of them pretty redundant.

Riewoldt was up against tougher opposition than Boyd and was often double teamed, Boyd only had spuds like Naismith and Tippett to deal with.

Yeah but Plugger is an all time great, Boyd is just a one hit wonder.

Is it weird that I'm saddened by the news, knowing our days of gleefully trolling him are over? Best of luck to him I guess, its hard to doubt he made the right decision and the Doggies are far better with his salary off the books.

The thing is Plugger there are 10 Bulldogs players I could choose to change to that are better than anyone on your list

Like Heath Shaw?

Boyd played 50% ruck in 2016 so in essence he kicked Riewoldt's entire Grand Final history in just on 6th of the same time up forward.

Good luck to the kid. If this gets his head right, then he's 100% made the right decision.
Plenty of bigger things in life than footy and he's probably already earned enough to set himself up for life after footy.

Sad he won't reach his football potential but better that he doesn't end up another suicide statistic and that he enjoys life again.

Like Harry Taylor and Nathan Brown along with other defenders helping them out.

Riewoldt was our main threat up forward so opposition team's spent a lot of time planning how to stop him, no one rated Boyd so he slipped under the radar.

Nailed it. I'm in the same thought process myself at the moment.

I'm really sad for the poor fella.
Life gets hard to deal with for a lot of people, regardless of their other situations, like their employment.
I just hope being away from a job where he is constantly judged and criticized will be good for him.
And I hope the fans cherish him whenever their are Premiership reunions, and it sinks in over time that he has an irreplaceable position in club history.
Sounds like he needs a real lot of support - I hope he gets it.
Still a very young man, and lots to live for. Good luck mate!

Nice post mate. I can see him doing an Ian Thorpe, getting the **** out of town, then coming back 5 years later

Great deal to be honest. We paid Boyd less overall than the amount of debt erased from winning the flag, won a flag with him dominating, and then he retired to give us handy cap space and send Sydney fans into meltdown
