Tom Boyd given leave for clinical depression

Wish Tommy all the best, and the club gives him all the help he needs.
I hope we see him back before the year is over. The big fella is going to get there, so he can stick it up the arse of everyone giving him shit even more than he has.

It must be said, but a massive kudos to both Tom and Travis for getting it out in the open, using their platform to preach to anyone else struggling with the illness that it's ok to come out and do something about it, and that there are people out there who care. Very brave.

Best advice there is in this age of technology. Can't walk 2 blocks without seeing someone with their head down and glued to their phones.

Totally agree. Kick the footy with your kids, walk the dog, go for a run or a drive, call your Mum and Dad or just throw on the headphones and listen to music on the couch. The simple things. Bloody Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are just designed for insecure/conceited people to boast about themselves and take down others.

I don't use any of those things, not many people my age that are like me on that regard. Not only do I not feel that I'm missing anything, I believe my life is better as a result.

Same. Got off facebook about 3-4 years ago. Aside from all the other benefits, at the very least I've saved so much time to spend on more meaningful things.

I was on holiday recently and was walking along the path beside the beach. Every person was looking at their phone, every single one. It was freaky.

Same with me. All my mates ask me what i do with my life because I dont use any social media. I tell them I do normal things that everyone did before social media was a thing. They just dont seem to get it. Its absolutely ridiculous these days! If you took away one of these peoples phones for a day they could not handle it

Sorry to intrude on your board
A great player I hope he returns fit and well.

I'm not a big tv watcher but I will do on your recommendation, the wife enjoys Netflix.
I must say what I saw did slightly freak me out and I mentioned it at the time, and then paid added attention, which only freaked me out more.
I'll watch this show,I'm very interested in these things. Freaky stuff.

Could much else go wrong this year ? The answer is probably yes :(
But thinking about his situation , should managers take a little responsibility.
I know it's rediculous to knock back the sort of money he was offered , but the pressure on these young blokes must be enormous.
It's not going to happen , but maybe managers should be more careful with what's on offer and have more consideration on what pressures they might be putting on such young shoulders ?

Anyway big Tom , just remember you will forever be a premiership hero to so many of us.

I thought only old people like me don't have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I do, however, spend too much time looking at YouTube.

And yes, no matter what Tom Boyd does with the rest of his life, he will always be someone who helped our dream come true.

Totally agree. I have all three and love YouTube, but I can easily step away from them for days. Life is too short for mindless dribble, trolls and morons.

Or media etc could change their understanding of scenarios to reflect what is happening rather the than perpetuate myths and crucify people for breaching the status quo and forcing them to trot out something other than the same old bullshit. It's a similar thing the source of a his discussion, people with mental health issues and disabilities etc don't necessarily have to change, society has to.

He cops so much shit in the media and online from trolls.

Tom Hawkins has his breakout game, TWO YEARS later than Boyd.

Wayne Carey of all people, writes articles in THEAGE and every second article is about how he's not living up to his number one billing.

Darcy Moore, Paddy McCartin etc are all struggling for form and yet all articles are on him. He cops it 10 times more than anyone else and yet he's probably achieved more than most KPP players his age.

Get well soon Tom.

GO DOGS.
Sorry to intrude guys, i suffered something similar 10 years ago and am now fine. Do you think Tom would be suffering if he wasn't on this massive contract? It's a massive burden for a 21 year old kid to be on 1 million plus per year when he wasn't a proven player demanding that money. His manager Pickering has looked after the young fella money wise but do you think he has ultimately done the right thing but him? That's a lot off pressure for a young fella to wear on his shoulders. I hope he gets well

Yeah I think lessons need to be learned from this. But I also should have included our club , they did sign off on the contract.
Easy to be critical after the event , and I'm not blaming anybody , but as an industry can we learn anything from it ?

Seems like Toms is impacting him more than Trav. Trav continues to train with the group while Tom has asked to spend time away.

Whatever those two need i hope we give it to them and they both come back stronger. Have high hopes for both players still.
Is this right, I thought they said on the news that he would continue to train!
