If he deserves games he will get them but it really comes down to his attitude and keep in mind his attitude was poor when he first got to the giants, and if he is truely ahead of Stewart and McCarthy and so far in seniors Stewart has been more impressive

Playing Boyd in the reserves makes no difference. Its in Boyd's interest not to get injured or miss out on his big contract. Thats all!

as an unbiased onlooker here there is no way the kid is spending anytime next year in the 2's if he is fit.

Firstly if you are any chance to convince him his future lies with the giants you want him playing in the seniors establing stronger bonds with the senior players around him.

Secondly if he is leaving, his currency is alot stronger having played in the seniors all year and hopefully for your sake becomes a bidding war from melbourne clubs who are interested in him.

There is no win if you keep him playing in the 2nds for the year.

Our objective, with every game is to win it.

If that requires Tom Boyd to be in the team then so be it.

However, as others have said, there are others who have shown more.

Losing Boyd sucks, but having Griffen + 4, 6 and 7 is huge for us. Plus it was awful nice to read this:

“Second, our coach Leon Cameron has consulted the leadership group and they have agreed they want a united and loyal playing group heading into an important season in 2015.

“Third, as a club we are proud to represent Western Sydney and Canberra and it’s critical that our players share that value. Clearly Tom doesn’t and the best course of action is for him to leave the club."

Pretty good trade result on paper, but a shitty result for the game.

AFL has to do something about this now or us frontier clubs will continue to be feeder clubs for the heartland.

hope we stay with 4,6 & 7, petracca would be good but 3 top 10 picks to go with our current squad - yes please

Interesting. I hope we trade for someone else. Matthews was asked on trade radio if there is a possibility they have an idea to package the picks for another big name player and he said "Possibly"

Agreed, it's horrible that a young kid can come in and screw over the team who picked him just because they want to go elsewhere.

If the AFL wants the game to grow, they should do something about this kind of nonsense.

We really got a good deal out of this compared to what you guys have copped over the past few years, but that doesn't make the actions of Boyd any less ridiculous.

Agree its not just interstate clubs, lower clubs like us, Saints and Dees are just feeding the powerhouses.

Maybe bigger rookie contracts?

And maybe punishment if a player threatens to sit out. Like Griffen threatens to sit out for year, AFL says make that two and gives the losing club a priority pick. Player power has gone too far.

FWIW you guys have won this trade, and made us bleed.

Boyd could be a dud he did nothing last year and Griffin is a proven performer who brings experience to a great young list. Let Boyd run back to mummy and collect his undeserved 7 million

JC seems happy :p

Best of luck to you boys.
On face value it looks like GWS certainly got the better deal IMO, but considering where your list is at it would be a long shot for Griffen to still be around and playing good footy when you have your next serious tilt at a flag.
So this considered I think this is a good trade as really you would not get that key forward with pick 6 and Griffen either way would not be a part of your next generation success.
Well done in end and the club certainly needs the PR of a big name recruit !!

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said the club had changed its position and decided to trade Boyd after reviewing a number of factors.

“First, the Bulldogs have made a revised and attractive offer which now includes their first draft pick (six), an elite player in Ryan Griffen and salary cap assistance in relation to his contract.

“Second, our coach Leon Cameron has consulted the leadership group and they have agreed they want a united and loyal playing group heading into an important season in 2015.

“Third, as a club we are proud to represent Western Sydney and Canberra and it’s critical that our players share that value. Clearly Tom doesn’t and the best course of action is for him to leave the club. - See more at: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2014-10-15/ryan-griffen-becomes-a-giant#sthash.KGDkUDBV.dpuf

Well said by the club, each point is more than legitimate and adds up. Three strikes and you're out! Goodbye Boyd.
