Yeah but it’s not a dick measuring competition to see who can get the best 18 year old. The aim of the game is to win a premiership.

Your list may be “young” but looking at your top ten B&F results, I don't see many 25 and under.

Curnow, Weitering, McKay, Walsh, TDK, Cerra are all 27 or under. You can try shift the goal posts all you want, that's not an old core of a team.

That North trade was stupid, but the Blues still paid overs for pick 3.

It’s interesting that you share that opinion considering your mob got compensated handsomely for pick 3.

I think the draft just gone has clouded a lot of people’s expectations. In any other draft, paying a F1 & F2 for 14 is overs. Then doubling down and trading 12 and 14 for 3 is pretty risky. If Collingwood did that and missed out on Houston, I’d be pretty pissed.

I don’t think it was incredibly bright for a team in North’s position, especially when you consider they traded their pick 25 for Caleb Daniel.

Our pick 3 trade was poor but had we kept 14 and turned Jagga into Allan, M Reid and Greggo (we would have got Gross anyway) then I could live with that. But for a rebuilding side to then trade 14 for Liam Baker when he would have been a free agent next year? The height of stupidity.

Regarding the future picks that’s not true at all. Almost any team would happily accept Richmond’s F1 and F2 for pick 14 but no one would accept Brisbane’s F1 and F2. You’re generalising between teams and generalising between drafts without paying attention to the minutiae of either. It was very clear that all the teams placed a high value on top 30 picks this year, as evidenced by how long it took for a willing buyer of North’s F1 which is almost certainly a top 5 if not a top 3 selection.

Cripps is the highest paid player on our list at around 1 mil before the salary increases. Curnow, McKay, Weitering and Walsh are on a bit below that.

Id assume all of them are on 1 million-ish now adjusting for the increases. TDK would be on the same if he sticks around.

Brian Cook laid it out fairly clearly in a few of his interviews, nobody gets paid more than the Captain while he's at the club.

Brian may well try that but the player contracting landscape has changed from when he did it at Geelong I don't think there's any chance a player like tdk will sign for severe unders given what other clubs will offer him.
I think what will happen is Carlton will offer him say 20 % more than they want to but still 20-30 % less than the best other offer, and he will sign and stay but they will pretend to the public they paid less than they did. That way cook gets to claim 'culture' for the PR but they don't actually lose the player. They would be silly to lose him given where their list is at and they will pay more to make sure they don't.

Highly likely

No matter how or what way you slice and dice it, we all know that Carlton has a salary cap issue.

They essentially paid more for pick 3 (Jagga Smith) than they would've for Houston. Don't give me this crap about list demographic, blah, blah, blah. Only Carlton fans are stupid enough to not believe it.

They have weitering so a defender like Houston is not exactly a massive need for them

These are all the positives we see but there are also the negatives like players salaries that are tiered to the increase in the cap which we ignore.

Just regarding Cerra , He wanted to come to Richmond but when his demands were looked at Richmond pulled out
I would be very cautious about him accepting less to go another club when there were 3 clubs i know about that were in his selections Melbourne , Richmond & Carlton

I think you would need to have blue glasses to think the above players all at 1 club and no cap issue's
Things would be tight id imagine
not sure about that

what? weitering is a key defender with below average disposal and houston is a half back with elite disposal. they arent comparable at all.....

houston would have been a very good get for them - but is nowhere near as much a list need as a quality small forward / hff (a zac bailey / dylan moore type)

Don't know whether it’s even worth replying to this….

Keeping TDK, getting Jagga and still having the cash to target a quality small forward is far better list strategy if we can pull that off. Unfortunately I'm not sure there's many small forwards who will be on the market this year with the names OOC. A Bailey or Stengle type would be incredible for the Blues.

Still the biggest hole the Blues have imo. Some seriously putrid options at the feet of Curnow and Mckay.
