The AFL's secret formula for free agency compensation
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/afl...free-agency-compensation-20180221-p4z16j.html

So that's how it works!

What we need to be able to do is hit the fixed right salary for the first 2 years. Then it all relaxes. This makes it fairly straightforward to work out how we can get GC their early compo pick. And so how we can get Lynch if he wants to come.

Strange way of doing it. You get a huge offer, over years, and it doesn't count so much because it isn't front loaded. Oh well, now we know.

Now the AFL will change their formula. Given they haven't changed any game rules this year they have to change something else :p:huh:

LOL corruption of the highest order, Motlop would've netted Geelong a first rounder even if he was 45 years old, Geelong needed a first rounder to get Ablett and amazingly against all the odds Motlop fell into that band under a formula apparently no club knows about.

You shock me ! The AFL arranging things to get the outcomes they want!!!!

So if Lynch wants to come to us you wouldn't be suggesting that the AFL might 'tell' us exactly what's a required for them to get the outcome they want? That would be close to corruption, but not actually corruption . And that might lead to both GC and the RFC winning :thumbsu:. And other contender clubs not winning because we are stronger for the next 5 years :rainbow:, and GC pillages a 'super draft'. Eddie might have the fit that finally blows his pooper valve :D.

This part made me laugh from that article.

Clubs can appeal the compensation decision, but none has chosen to as yet. The AFL can also intervene and change the compensation - as some thought it should in the Motlop case - if it feels that the outcome is an anomaly.

1. Off course no club has appealed the decision, don't bite the hand that feeds you.
2. As if the AFL were going to appeal it's own decision in the Motlop case considering they did everything they could to make sure Ablett got back to Geelong.

Interesting to see that Trent Cotchin in 2017 was one of the players to have earned above $1 million dollars with 3 years to run oh his current deal which was assumed to be around $800k a year , As well as Prestia having some front loading of his deal as well

Looking more and more likely we have been paying significant amounts upfront in preperation

I'm just going to enjoy a contract free year to be honest, the Dusty stuff did my head in at times.

Yeah but what it did to #lolnorf fans was absolutely, 100% worth every single grey hair.

Could well pale in comparison to the meltdown they have if Lynch ends up with us on significantly less because he opted for success over misery.

Hampson is a much more realistic free agent target and would genuinely improve their attacking bite in the forward half.

A mate suggested a while back that they should be chasing Black & Gold for major sponsor...their logo would look cracking on the 'beach change tent' jumper and what company better epitomises everything Norf?

Hey now there's a thought! A Tony Lockett scenario.

Brad Scott and Ben Buckley hold a massive presser announcing that Tom Lynch is their big recruit. Then he comes to Richmond.

Delicious

Even better is, Brad Scott signs on for an additional 3 years because he thinks Lynch is over the line and then Lynch nominates Richmond.
