It depends on 'the mix' - midfields are a delicate balance of who works best with who.

Fly is a pragmatist - Brodie is a strong case in point - he and the match committee will promote / demote / shift personnel wherever the greatest benefit to the team balance and effectiveness is gained.

I think it more likely than not that Mitchell will play a strong role in that mix for the majority of the season.
I think it is too.

What he's saying isn't demonstrably false. For Mitchell to play midfield, he'll be taking minutes from Adams and Pendles. I think Bucks will be wrong, particularly considering Lippas injury, but it's not demonstrably wrong to think that Pendles and Adams will offer more than Mitchell in the midfield this year.
Exactly.

I disagree with Buck's view as well, but it certainly isn't yet 'demonstrably false'. It can't 'demonstrably false' until it has happened.

The great thing about the recruitment of Mitchell is that we don't have to rely on it, Nor do we have to rely on youngsters pushing up really quickly in the following couple of years. But I don't think it's outrageous for anyone to think that Pendles and Adams will perform well enough this year, along with JDG, Crisp, Nick and Lippa, when he returns, to keep Mitchell on the fringe of the team

Exactly.

And for what it's worth, I think people in general underestimate Crisp in the center square. He was our best center square mid last year - and will continue to get a lot of time in there.

I don't expect to see much of Pendles in there, except maybe in pivotal moments in games, and do think that Mitchell will be a part of our best onball combo, but even the likes of Crisp, Adams, De Goey, a Daicos or two, Lippa probably, maybe even a Maynard at times means that it wouldn't surprise all that much to see an aged Tom Mitchell be a second rotation type player.

His mum said the poor thing was just playing with another dog and had an unfortunate accident. Wasn't an attack from another dog, just horrible luck. Died in his arms. 😪
Nothing more heart tearing - I was house sharing with a mate for a while when his little Jack Russel succumbed to throat cancer.

My mate was away at work when it happened so I took her in my arms and cradled her while she died in terror, doing my best to soothe her and make her feel loved in those last desperate moments :sleepy::sleepy::sleepy::sadv1::sadv1::sadv1:

I like kindness in people. :thumbsu:

Can't believe so many of your mob weren't keen on the idea for Mitchell.

He is exactly what you need. Just needs to shovel the ball to the Daicos boys 30 times a game and you're set.

Told yas

So pleased for Tom that he showed exactly what he can do. Brilliant player and great guy, played his heart out for us. I thought he'd be a great fit for your team surrounded by that level of experience and class but it's good to see it in action (even if it's a little sad). Wish him every success.

Lower numbers
Here are the numbers I care about - 14 contested possessions, 11 clearances, 4 tackles, 2 goals.

If he does that every week we'll win the flag. Phenomenal from Tom. Just did his role without caring about racking up cheap disposals for the sake of "numbers"

Finally we have a clearance beast. It's been way too long... Exactly what we needed. Extract the ball, feed the runners/kickers.
He was forced to play forward a lot last year, so he worked on his forward craft, he's pretty handy up there these days.

I thought this thread would be blowing up. Mitchell had 10+ clearances and was kicking goals. Centre clearances was where we fell over to Geelong and others so often last year. Enter Mitchell and we catch-up, blow-away and defeat the premiers. A big piece of the puzzle.

And he did all that with just 21 possessions.
