I'm not sorry, he's put out some stinkers and I called him out for it. Now he's starting to improve ands its good to see. He's giving me less reasons to call him out for it.

Sorry Tom, your form recently has been exceptional, you're becoming a really good option as trade bait come years end.

I never understood all the Phillips haters the last few years. He's still a kid.
Pick No. 58 in his years draft. Pies getting excellent return so far. Keep it up young Tom! Great to see you improving every week.

Another Pies fans punching bag is Maynard. Yes he does some silly things at times, but people need to lay off. He will come good. He's hard at it, tough and doesn't take a backwards step. All good qualities you want to see in a defender.

Glad this thread is made. Can get the guilt off my conscience. I bundled him with Smith, Mayne , Blair, Goldsack as players we needed to move on at end of this year. How very wrong was I

He seems like Mr Reliable , will be there at the end of the game running his guts out. That play last night where he ran from back pocket to essentially forward pocket was awesome

I am sure I called him vanilla and criticised his disposal, but I did make a shift in judgement early in the season. I thought one of his most telling actions for the night was when he lunged forward into a mark rather than standing still to take it, knowing that he would be crunched in the process. It was a gutsy mark and also quick thinking to realise he was not going to take the mark uncontested. His disposal has improved out of sight. Really impressed with the boy.

Now Maynard is one player about who I have only been positive and supportive since his early games. I won't need to offer up my apologies to him when he becomes a superstar. However, particularly with his injuries, he has not moved ahead in Phillips' leaps and bounds.

So happy with the way he has progressed. I've been a fan ever since he won that first time trial at the club - he fits our needs for that, which has become even more crucial in the modern game. Just hope he can keep improving his disposals and decision making, and he'll be a valuable 200+ gamer for us.

Go Tom!

I know the only similarity to Dane Swan is the high draft number but there would have been a few wondering early on in his career too playing in the back pocket.

Understand Dane Swan early days had an application issue and Philips works very hard, just saying some of Swannies games didn’t shout all time Collingwood legend, premiership, Brownlow medalist early on.

I’m pretty sure Knightmare rated Phillips in his draft year, and he was very pleased when we got him.

39 in my power rankings and had the Pies taking him in my phantom.

During preseason 2017, or maybe it was preseason 2016, I was describing Phillips as another Sidebottom through the midfield as that outside endurance accumulator with good skills.

Particularly early days, I was critical of Collingwood for not using Phillips more/introducing him into the 1s sooner.

Nothing I'm seeing from Phillips is surprising me. He's following the trajectory and producing as expected.

The only time I raised my expectations of Phillips was during his first preseason, hearing his time trial results, beating out Sidebottom. That made my level of certainty raise and expectation of production and role as a wing/hf. I may have slightly overrated his skills. But that's about as much as I can revise from my earliest views of Phillips.

Whilst Grundy was the most dominant player on the ground, Tom and Treloar were the hardest working. Dunn, Crisp, Pendles, Howe and Shaz could also lay claims to being right up there for the best.

His mileage and desire make him a very good player, and I never thought he would become this good, so my apologies are also offered. Great season to date Tommy Hilflipper

Strong overhead a few times yesterday. Something I hadnt seen before.
Yes.
He's also improved his hardness/attack on the ball.
Early on he'd go to ground a bit too much for my liking, seems to have eradicated that from his game too.

I'd apologize to Tom but I haven't said a bad word about him.. as a matter of fact referred to him as a top 30 pick a while ago.

Another footballer I got right yet again.

I'd like those of you who doubted him to apologize not only to Tom.. but also to me.

Thanking you in advance.

I f luv youz man.
