Top 3 Players in the 2016 AFL draft - Call it now!

So, the number 1 draft pick has never(?) been the best player in a draft pool, however there's usually 2-3 players better, if not more. Usually two inside first round, and one absolute ripper much later.

Note: The below table is just an example, no need to take it off topic and turn it into a shit fight.

2009: #1: Tom Scully - #3 Dustin Martin, #20 Nathan Fyfe, #34 Max Gawn
2010: #1: David Swallow - #8 Dyson Heppell, #11 Tom Lynch, #42 Luke Parker
2011: #1: John Patton - #2 Stephen Coniglio, #6 Chad Wingard, #58 Lachie Neale
2012: #1: Lachie Whitfield - #6 Jake Stringer, #8 Ollie Wines, #46 Tim Membrey
2013: #1: Tom Boyd - #4 Marcus Bontempelli, #13 Patrick Cripps, #26 Zach Merrett

Call it now, who will be the best three player in the 2016 AFL draft, and why?
Be that guy that "nailed it".
I'd especially like the opinion of those who do regular mock drafts.

Format: 2 that you believe that will be taken around the top 20, followed by a late smokie outside of it.
We will assume here that pick 1 will be either McCluggage or McGrath, you may nominate who you feel that will be.
Do not include F/S or academy picks.

My picks:

2016: #1: Hugh McCluggage

1. Tim Taranto - I think this guy will be the player of the whole bunch, has some real GAJ about him, strong hips, is excellent overhead regardless, kicks goals, haven't seen many weaknesses in his game.

2. Oliver Florent - Moves well through traffic, has an exciting burst of speed, appears to be a big game player, most only rate him in the second round, would be stoked if Essendon got him there, reminds me of Hamish Hartlett but better.

3 (late smokie). Sam Powell-Pepper - Might have a hyphen in his name, but plays like it's exclamation mark. Love how he runs through people, his aggression is a beautiful thing to watch, has a bit of Byron Pickett about him, I think he will be as good also, loves a snag.

Great post until you listed membery ahead of Whitfield lol you were doing so well until then.

1. Tim Taranto
Consistent performer all year with a dominant finals campaign. Has all the tools of being a very successful player.

2. Jack Bowes
Silky skills who is incredible in traffic and has good hands to go forward and kick goals. Good mix of inside and outside should hold up to AFL

3. Corey Lyons
May not become the best player but should go beyond expectations and become a consistent and effective midfielder at AFL level.

You're right, I guess I just wanted to use Membrey as not only was he a late pick, he was also moved on by Sydney.

I currently have in my power rankings:
McCluggage
McGrath
Brodie

It's going low-risk but they're the three best players I'm seeing at the moment.

If I had to go outside of those top three (and Taranto) Setterfield, Drew, Scrimshaw and Venables are some depending on how things go in each case could be in this conversation.

Membrey wasn't "moved on by Sydney". He was out of contract and St Kilda came knocking with a big contract and promises of more senior opportunities. There wasn't much the Swans could do to retain him. It happens, and we've been on the other end of the fence at times, most notably with Kennedy, so can't really complain. But I am sure the Swans would have preferred to keep him.

Nick Riedwolt was number one pick and clearly the best in his draft.

I think Whitfield is comfortably better than Membrey. Would have been better off with Macrae, Hunter, Viney, Daniher (good draft for F/S picks), etc.

If you read my OP, I wanted a late pick example for each. Vineyard and Daniher were FS, which I excluded. Macrae was the one I was deliberating on adding. Not that any of this matters, it's purely an example of what the thread expects.
