Andrew McLeod
Adam Goodes
Lance Franklin

These three for me are heads and shoulders above the rest. Wish I was older to see the Rioli's and Krakouers back in the day.

Not hard to pick the young blokes.....lol...or the older ones for that matter!

1) Polly Farmer...by a long way
2) Barry Cable....just a wonderful player
3) Gavin Wanganeen...all class
4) Peter Matera...sensational player to watch
5) Sid Jackson/Adam Goodes/Andrew McLeod ... great players

Buddy may get there one day...I saw someone nominated Carey; I didn't know his background................if he's indigenous he would slot in behind Cable. A great player no doubt.

I think Carey might have a small amount of indigenous blood but it's a bit of a stretch calling him an indigenous player. You never heard him being referred to as an indigenous player during his career.

Balrog

Really?

Didn't he have blondish-reddish hair? I remember he ran the deli in Lochee St Mossie Park whilst he was playing for Easts (or soon after). I never knew he was aboriginal.

Benny Vigona was pretty bad arse.

Yeah had blonde hair but was part aboriginal. Kicked 100 goals as a rover/forward pocket in 1979 for east Fremantle. Had a stint with south Melbourne before coming back and paying a couple of years with swan districts

Benny vigona was a golden gloves boxer if I recall. Remember going to a Claremont v souths grand final that had an all in with the krakeours and the souths indigenous boys right in the thick of it. Was a thing of beauty

1. Goodes - brilliant career, champion footballer
2. McLeod - fantastic balance, poise and skill
3. Michael Graham (Sturt) - speed and skill
4. Peter Matera - not too many better on the run at slotting goals
5. Franklin - absolute beast, great party trick goals

Nice thread.

Stephen Michael (the best footballer never to play VFL/AFL)
Maurice (like a Brazilian soccer star he only needs one name)
Andrew McLeod
Adam Goodes
Syd Jackson (if being taken to the footy at about 6 by your old man counts as seeing)

Buddy will be on the list by the time he's finished.

Out of interest, did anyone see the game live or on the telly where Winmar played on Gabblet Snr? Must have been amazing, I remember listening to it on the radio and thinking a matchup like that just isn't ever going to happen again...
