You really are a tool, seriously mate. Why would one argue so much over a player that will be remembered as one of the greats to wear a Melbourne guernsey. Don't they say, in modern footy it is much harder, and I obviously can't comment, but of all expert opinions, it is, and Neitz is a class act IMO. Why the hell you made calls like a 'dill' is just beyond me.

Neitz's Player Honours
best and fairest 2002
2nd best and fairest 1995,2001
3rd best and fairest 2003
All-Australian 1995, 2002
International Rules Series 1998,2002
AFL Rising Star nominee 1993
Coleman Medal 2002
Leading Goalkicker 1996,1997,1999,2002,2003,2004
Captain 2000-2006

Soon to be:
Club's Games Record Holder
Club's Goals Record Holder

Fair Honour Roll...not the best, but he will be remembered as one of the greats at the Dees, and there should be no arguments if one shall put him in a top 3 at the club.

Neitz would not be in my top 3 Demons (Flower, Barassi, Stynes) , but it's just an opinion. When Carey was flying at CHF he always said that Neitz was his toughest opponent, even ahead of Jakovich.

To cut in on the Melbourne debate. Yes it is all opinion, but Melbournes golden era was in the 50's early 60's. Their run is comparable to Hawthorn of the 80's. This is the era where most of Melbourne legends played. Throw in Flower as he was a star and thats that.

Neitz, Lyon, Stynes all good players but they dont cut it when talking about the absolute greats of the game.

Surprised no-body has nominated Charlie Sutton for the Doggies - Captain Coach of the premiership side. I may be a little bias bacause I knew another premiership player growing up so heard stories of Sutton, Whiutten, Donald and the like.

Arthur Oliver was supposedly brilliant, but I doubt there is anyone here who could verify how good he was, so I suppose he gets left out.

My Bulldogs three would be:

Whitten
Sutton
Hawkins

Come on mate you can't seriously ignore every one of our premiership players, Barassi was a reasonable player.

Not ignored champ,just overlooked.
Swap Barassi with Lyon.
Im aware their is a shortage of golden era players missing from my melbourne selections however Im trying to get a balance of heard vs what ive seen.

For the Dogs I asked my Dad cos he's really old and he said:

1. Whitten
2. Dempsey/Hopkins

Although he's really old he didn't see Hopkins play, but by all accounts he was pretty bloody good.

Out of our modern era players, I'd have Grant edging out Scotty West and Dougie.

Get off his back you clown. Its not his fault he is only 18. How many people who have posted have seen all the players in the flesh.....Not Many, In fact probably none. Thats the problem with the "Best Of" and team of the century type questions. Noone has seen all the players in their prime.

There you go.

BTW - In 25 years time, people my age will have Neitz probably at no.1 you know.

J. Cloke like a G. Archer Board.

First person to get the eagles right, I can;t comment for other clubs. Freo looks correct aswell.

Carlton have five players in the AFL team of the Century... Silvagni, Nicholls, Doull, Jesaulenko and Williams.

If you eliminate Jezza and Williams because, at some point, they played for another club, that leaves you with 3 pretty decent players.

But that still omits arguably our greatest ever player in Kernahan.

It ain't easy.

My West Coast 3 (although it's impossible)

1. Peter Matera
2. John Worsfold
3. Glen Jakovich

I think that the above three have contributed the most to West Coast in terms of success through their on field actions. Some very, very notable exceptions, and could be substituted in for just about any of the three:

McKenna, Judd, Sumich, Kemp, Lewis, Cousins

Kevin Murray for Fitzroy?

Roys,

1. Bunton
2. Quinlan
3. Murray

:)

What I would have said, if this well-informed person had not said it first.

Sensational idea for a thread, and a bloody good attempt. At least he has the grace to admit when he's obviously wrong.

Edit: For the reasons listed in the above paragraph, I've serious doubts that Hotpie is really a Collingwood supporter. Only jarkin'.

Richmond

Jack Dyer
Royce Hart
Roy Wright

Roy Wright is such a good get. For about 4 years he was a laughing-stock, because he was so unco. Then he won a Brownlow. People said, "Yeh, but he's still unco." Then he won a second Brownlow and deservedly went into history as an absolute great. Such a lovely, gentle man too. A great commentator as well, despite a voice like a concrete mixer.

Never saw Sutton, but Schultz was the second-best Doggies player I've seen in the past 50 years, by a long way. They used to automatically select him, Skilts, Nicholls, Ted, Murray and Barassi in the state team. The rest made up the numbers. He was the best ruckman in the competition for at least five years. Then Farmer came from WA, and Nicholls got out of gaol, and became serious about footy.
