So end the second Town of Salem Werewolf game! Although it was not nearly as close as the first game, I still feel it was a success with most factions having a chance of victory until late yesterday. Clearly a different style of game to the traditional Werewolf, it was interesting to note the subtle changes in skill level shown by the players as they started to understand the mechanics a little better. Town members in particular understood the need to get information to their teammates (either in the thread or via Death Notes) which enabled some of the more technical players to be able to fill out the role list until evils had nothing left to claim. Evils being able to proficiently fake a role is an even harder step though, and once the pressure came on late there was nowhere for them to hide. This is understandable though as familiarity with the good roles is needed to fake them successfully, and most have never played Town of Salem more than once. If I attempt to host of these again I will try to make it easier for role faking by providing more accessibility to the messages received by all roles at the end of a Night Phase.

The role list is always a subject of contention for game balance, and although Town ended up steamrolling to victory (despite two mis-lynches), it could so easily have tipped the other way. I loved the Juggernaut role, and I was getting quite excited as boncer34 was powering up his role every night - but unfortunately his strategy of targeting lurkers exclusively meant that he did a fantastic job of taking out powerful evil roles - including the Arsonist and Godfather. If he'd escaped the noose for one more night I believe he could have caused untold damage to Town with his Unstoppable Rampage attack and flipped the game on its head. The Mafia were also unlucky with the Ambusher role failing to kill anyone, and the same with the Coven and their Poisoner role. A few more dead Townies near the end could have made it much more difficult to close out the game.

It was good to see some roles shine in this edition that weren't seen in the first one (Psychic, Lookout, Consort, Juggernaut), but it was a shame that some didn't get a chance to influence the game: Arsonist, Veteran and Mayor for example. Next time I'd hope to see roles like Forger, Framer, Blackmailer and Potion Master getting a go again - plus I think I'll add in the Werewolf NK and maybe the Crusader, Hypnotist and Plaguebearer roles.

Player engagement from pretty much everyone was very good (some only in PMs to be fair), which is always the objective of a game where everybody has roles - and there were only a couple of missed night actions...both on the first night. So mission accomplished on that front!

From a moderator perspective there were only two notable mistakes: a result I send to Grand Uncle Horace on the first night that Zerg ended up picking up on - forcing me to correct it in Horrie's PM, and the MannumPower incident that luckily didn't affect the final result. Given the complexity of the game I feel like this was an okay result. Lessons for next time for both of us!

A fairly simple decision this one, as NinjaSwan played the perfect Jailor game. Clearly the most important Town role, it was telling that they did so well with Ninja doing his thing. Of the 8 nights of the game he had evil players jailed on 7 of them, with executions to take out the Coven Leader, Hex Master and Mafioso - whilst also roleblocking killing roles in late-game once he'd run out of executions. Well thought out interrogation meant that he was able to pick up hints about roles from the responses, and was able to co-ordinate a secret line of communication with ZergMinion in the thread once he was satisfied that his Transporter claim was legitimate. Not only that, he was able to lead the Town during the Day phases along with Zerg...all whilst not revealing his role until late in the game. How he escaped attention from evils is a mystery to me, as he had no night protection from the Doctors or Bodyguard until Night 5!

Was another Town player with clear Town of Salem experience, he was able to help co-ordinate his teammates as they revealed their night actions in the thread, and kept them focused when the information overload was peaking in mid-game. Was able to prove himself in Jail on Night 3, which enabled him to work with NinjaSwan going forward. Lead the Town on the first couple of days until NinjaSwan took over. Didn't affect too much of the play with his transportations, but added a layer of complexity that muddled up a few evil plays.

The standout performance of the evil players, he was able to keep the Coven focused until the numbers overwhelmed them. His play to take out NaturalDisaster backfired at a key moment due to croweater's protection, but otherwise had sound logic with Coven night actions. Not poisoning a single person all game aside, he was the only evil to make a fake role claim that stood up for multiple days - and once again managed to talk himself out of a jail cell. If you are Jailor next game, do not trust this guy!

Finally, I'd like to thank GREENESHOOTS for assisting me with moderating this game. He did a great job of coordinating the Jailor mechanic over the course of the game, acting as the middle man between Jailor and prisoner. He also did a large proportion of the moderating on Tuesday when I was away from my laptop for most of the day, kept track of votes, and had input on the final game rules and roles. I'm sure he learnt a lot from the experience, and I'm hoping that I haven't scared him off ever doing it again. I promise you that nearly every other game mode is a breeze compared to this!

Thanks all for playing!

Really enjoyable game serial_thrilla and GREENESHOOTS . The fact everyone plays a part makes it more interesting than standard werewolf. Hope to see another one down the track. NinjaSwan was phenomenal, I couldn’t keep up with all the mechanics town was lucky to have him. 11kgm you sneaky bugger fool me once….👍

Great summation serial_thrilla and terrific work from both you and GREENESHOOTS

Boncer could have knocked Chippy out of third but that is a quibble.

As I understand it MannumPower introduced WW here ages ago. He exhibited in this game - no surprise - a great example of being a good sport.

Does not happen every game but I have seen similar examples of players being a good sport. Maybe when this happens in future games, beyond 1,2,3 we have the Mannum Power Trophy for being a good sport.

Personally I would have given por_please_ya the MP for not crying when made Evil Head for the 129th time in a row.

This is a fantastic idea - I am all in favour of this...
