Apologies if this has been mentioned already as I haven't been reading the thread, but my old man is good mates with a current recruiter from Sydney who had some interesting mail. Said that Minson has actually asked to be traded at seasons end and that is why he has been dropped. Don't really believe it but this fella knows more than me that's for sure.

Very interesting. I guess we will find out at this weeks selection table.

doesnt make any sense since we keep higgins in the side yet he looks to be leaving in fa

Im at the point where i think we should move past Big Will and cash in high while we can.

Also read on facebook(Lol i know not the best source) but apparently we have now told Boyd if he wishes to keep playing AFL it will have to be elsewhere (Like Cross) and that we are set to make an offer for big Tex.
i spotted the tex rumor as well
no way he would leave crows (almost top 8 side) for ua

Horse apples, Tex will be a Crow for life.

Be disappointed if we've told Boyd to nick off or retire.

Pretty interesting, just hard to believe big Will would want to leave, seems like he loves the place and looked pumped in the VFL win on the weekend.

What's his contract situation like? Maybe we've told him the plan for his future (I.e phasing him out so Campbell can have game time) and he'd rather take a big offer somewhere to finish his career with some finals?

Love Minno and would be sad to see him go, but think it could work out pretty well if we could get something good for him. Pick up a mature back up ruck on the rookie list, but give Campbell/Cordy first shot.

If it's done respectfully like the Crossy situation I'm quite happy with it tbh. Means we can give someone like Pearce one more chance and really we wouldn't be moving forward at all if Boyd was still in the team by round 10 next year.

Fair enough.

I'm very much of the opinion that he's worth retaining on the list and that he's of immense value whether in the seniors or at Footscray - or in the box.

Boyd's an asset, he's a brilliant leader/footy mind and doesn't get the credit he deserves.

If it was his choice to move on to play a full season or two elsewhere, I wouldn't begrudge him, but I'd be seriously disappointed if we moved him on and he didn't want to go.

I got that mail as well -Has buisness in Sydney at the moment we should package both Minson and Tutt to Sydney for Reid....

That's strange - I sat with a Swans member who is generally well connected within the AFL community (quite a few friends at board level) and he didn't say a thing - he did say he thought it was a good move to try the Campbell/Cordy ruck combo against the Swans as Minson only ever breaks even at best against Pyke so we did speak about ruckmen.

He expected O'Keefe to be at the Demons next year but nothing is solid yet.

If the Minno to Sydney talk is true that makes things interesting, if we could get Reid without having to give up our first rounder I would be absolutely rapt. GWS obviously wouldn't want him with Mummy, but would Sydney? Could they even afford him if they did?

Yeah I dont doubt he could still offer us something, especially at Footscray level but not sure if he would want that to be honest.

Sydney can afford whomever they desire. If they want Minno, they shall get him.

That'll be the bottom line. I would imagine there's a one year contract on the table for Boyd, with the condition that he might not play much senior footy.

He thinks he can play on for some time to come though, so he might look elsewhere. Who would be interested? A team that is challenging, or another Cross situation where he goes to assist in a rebuild?

I don't think he meant traded to the swans, just traded in general. This recruiter has ties to some people at the dogs, also mentioned that when we drafted bontempelli we planned on him just playing out the year at footscray, but he has come on wayyyy faster than expected - think we probably know this already

Just off the top of my head..

FB: Morris Roughead Picken
HB: Murphy Talia Wood/JJ
C: Macrae Griffen Bontempelli
HF: Dahl Jones/Roberts Crameri
FF: Hunter Stringer Cooney
R: Minson Libba Wallis
I: Hrovat JJ Roberts
S: Stevens

Reserves: Grant, Smith, Higgins, Tutt, Honey, Prudden, Cordy, Campbell, Darley, Dickson, Pearce, Young.....

Now, obviously a lot depends on what happens in the offseason and doesn't include trades in/out, delistings and draft picks. But despite all Boyd's capabilities, he doesn't offer significantly better structure to the side than most of the guys listed as reserves. He's a contested ball magnet and great midfielder. That is a quality we have a bit of (Griff, Libba, Wallis, Smith, Hrovat, Stringer (hopefully more next year) and Bontempelli. He isn't fast enough or skillful enough, he doesn't kick enough goals to be a forward.

I love what he has done for the club and he's a tireless warrior and a great role model for the younger guys. But if we are keeping him on next year purely as a role model - we're not doing the right thing longer term. We need to quickly establish who can and can't play at AFL level. We need to give opportunities to Prudden, Honey, Darley, Pearce, Tutt, Young even - as these guys need to either pull their weight or face the axe in the not-to-distant future. We can potentially get more long term benefit from 20 games into one of these guys - than another 20 into Boyd - even though he is more likely to deliver to a higher standard than any of these next year.

We will eventually lose Morris, Murphy and Cooney - we need to gradually phase out players so we aren't keeping any deadwood longer than necessary - just because we can't afford to lose 11 players in a single year....

List Management is a ruthless business, but depending what happens in the off-season - it might be time to let Boyd go.... With our thanks and best wishes...

"Reports have surfaced that Sydney's Sam Reid has been approached by the Lions about a possible shift North at the end of the year. Despite Reid signing a lucrative five-year deal not too long ago, the Swans and Reid's management are rumoured to be 'open' to discussions.

Reid has also been linked with a return to Victoria where Carlton and the Bulldogs have shown significant interest.

Reid's father Bruce played 86 games with the Bulldogs between 1977–1982, before playing 33 games for the Blues between 1983–1985."

**** off Brisbane and Carlton  no body wants a bidding war! Just take ya key forwards in the draft and be happy with that, and leave us with one for a change :(
