Not saying a majority think that way Mof. I am suggesting some are satisfied if we lose and a Collingwood/Carlton/Essendon lose also it isn't so bad because they have lost. Instead of being dissatisfied with our performances.
I sometimes think a lot of members, not all. were satisfied making the preliminaries a few years ago. That near enough is good enough, that we were unlucky, instead of being honest in assessing the games.
97 was our year, I don't blame the goal umpire for not giving the goal that Libba claimed to have kicked. I blame the easy shots we made in the 3rd and 4th quarter that would have iced the game. To say we were robbed when we had ourselves to blame is just wrong.
But people say we were stiff, we weren't stiff we blew it.

What in god's name does '97 have to do with anything?

Jesus you ramble a lot of shit.

Have to agree , why was Curley sent back with Jarman. No way he has it that easy with Kretiuk back there.
Also a 17 yr old Brown selected in front of a mature Kolyniuk.
2 massive blunders for me.
Very Well said King Harold. I for a long time have felt I was the only one who had noticed the curly while Kritter is on the bench situation. If Kritter had have been on Jarman for the last quarter I can guarantee the closest he would have been to the action was the ' Holden' hording on the boundary. UNDER no circumstances would he have 'gotten' away from him.
Well noticed

Mate you need to let it go , it was 17 years ago

I've said you can gave a team of role players as long as you've got a few A graders leading the way. Akermanis was a farking freak of a player. God I loved him, Johnno was a star, Lake was/is the 2nd best full back behind Scarlett I've seen. The problem we have now is that the role players we had in 2008-2010 haven't become A graders to lead the way as they needed to. Even Griff, our best player now (but probably not for long) is no Johnno or Aker. It's a shame, but I think we'll get there again. We just need to find some freaky good players.

To say we're not a destination club is crap, we've picked up stars albeit not in their prime, but players chase success, so we need to get our recruiting right so that success, and players, come.

TV Terry is one of the most over rated coaches in history

Every year at the dogs we went backwards after he took over possibly the best young group of kids we have ever had.

Sucked Richmond in also so at least that makes me smile

So the fact that same group finished second-last to only one of the worst teams in history thr year prior, then finished two points shy of a Grand Final the following year had nothing to do with the coach?

Fair dinkum - you are a moron.

Yes but other clubs want him also, which puts us at the tail end of the queue. Nobody wanted darley, I'm not convinced Stevens was high on other clubs priorities either. Jaksch is high on clubs wish lists. So we will battle to get him.
All I'm saying.
Why are we never in the mix to get a Judd, Ablett, Franklin, Ball, Buckley?
Because we aren't an attractive proposition to these type of players. Surely you have to agree.
We got Aker, Winmar, Hall when they were finished.
The best recruit we ever got was Ben Hudson, he was in his prime still and wanted to come.

We could of had Ball the Pies picked him up in the draft. Hall almost most won the Coleman medal in his first year and got us our NAB cup still the only trophy i have ever seen in my 38 years as a member .Carlton Judd trade was a wasted trade they gave a key power forward that they are so badly needing now how many finals did Judd get Carltank too.
When we are on the rise free agents will come we are on the right track.

Finally something we are in entire agreement on.

Way too harsh. Terry was an okay coach, but never a great quality one. 1996 was an aberration, we had injuries and the Joyce had lost the players. Have a look at where we finished in 1994 and 1995. The trend was always going upward.

Did I say it has nothing to do with him moron??

Get a brain and read whole posts

THE FACTS ARE he took us to where he did in 97 and then every year we went backwards til he sold us out and made a deal mid year with Sydney.

He sat on his hands and watched Jarman beat us when he had other options

He then went to Richmond and did ZERO!!

He took over from a terrible coach and had a fantastic young group much like Hinkley has done.

He was an ok coach. But far from good and his record proves this moron :)

Wow !!!! Stupid is as stupid does

The side that made finals in 1994/1995 was unrecognisable to the one that played finals in 1997.

Players who played in the losing 1995 QF Final and also the losing 1997 PF:

Leon Cameron
Chris Grant
Brad Johnson
Tony Liberatore
Rohan Smith
Scott West
Scott Wynd

Two-thirds of the side changed.

1995 was full of players of the ilk of Tyson Lane, Jason Watts, Rochard Osborne, Brad Nicholson, Ilija Grgic, Daniel Hargraves, Scott Allen, Daryl Griffin, etc etc.

Garbage. Your statement was that we went backwards every year under Wallace.

Facts are 1998 was the best home and away season this club has ever had, never lower than second all season and missed top spot on the last kick of the last game of the season. This was on the back of a third-placed finish in 1997, after having finished 15th the year prior.

I am far from Wallace's biggest fan, but he gets a raw deal from people around here.

We became the toughest, most exciting side to play against for a number of years as a direct result of his coaching. It all fell apart in the end, but you vastly underrate his ability.

Yep later we got in Cookie, Hudson, Minton-Connell, Dent etc and drafted Brown.

I was disappointed the way Hargraves dropped off after his knee injury (was a kid then so don't know full circumstances) thought he would've been a gun. Terry clearly thought our forward power was awful so the 2 Hawthorn blokes come in and made an impact.
