What are people mostly wanting to do , keep pick 6 or trade for a ready made player ?

Trade for a ready made. We only need a bit of luck with injuries and with the core group we have plus a couple of additions we will be back in the finals hunt quickly in my opinion.

It’s a matter of finding the right player who wants to come to us

Personally I’d be fine with offering pick 7 plus Dahl compo pick for Shiel. Just to make sure it gets over the line. Would take something like that like that to pry away a contracted player.

Maybe we get some steak knives in addition.

If Geelong are as reported are offering 550k over 4 years for Dahlhaus. I think its pretty safe to assume that our alleged offer of 350k (or barely above the league average) over 3 as is oft quoted here is not very accurate.

I wouldn’t mind josh kelly but don’t think it will happen , think of someone other than Shiel or kelly

It really depends on which player we can get.

Given we've got a strong crop of 18-22 year olds and the inside running on 2 good quality draftees in West and Khamis, the opportunity to add another elite player in the group further secures the chance of a rare period of serious success in the next few years. It would take a seriously good player to tempt us to trade it away for mine.

Name a few players you would be happy with ?

Players that might be obtainable that I would include pick 7 for.

Kelly, Shiel, Wingard, Neale, Cerra. Etc

Also can we pursue a player from left field. Maybe offer Mcluggage a big contract or another young 2 - 4 player no one else is targeting. Jack Martin etc.

Griffen still had value then imo, didn't have a great year but was AA the year before

We overpaid for Boyd, should've got a second rounder or something back too
Can’t disagree more.

I spoke about the type of players you trade up for the other day, and Boyd fits that 100%

Here is a guy who less then 12 months earlier was the number 1 pick, the big key forward who we haven’t had since Grant.

Everything lined up to get him, we had the cash, we were a year early on the comp as he was alway heading home and Griffen requested GWS.

As good as Griffen is or was at the time, he was still ageing, Boyd was seen as that 12+ year player you build around.

You can’t say he was unproven and pick 6 was an overprice, because pick 6 was even more unproven at the time.

Depends on a) the quality of the player willing to come to us, and b) how the draft looks after TAC cup finals. If there's an A grader asking for a trade to us then yes, but I wouldn't like the idea of us shopping it around and then a Smith or Rankine being available at that pick.

All reports point to the top 6 being that much better than the rest of the draftees this year but the chances of the so called 'top six' actually being taken in the the top six is remote at best. Some teams will draft for needs, or to get a player that comes from their state to avoid the go home factor and it will cause at least one if not two or three of the top 6 to slide to us at pick 7.
This year should be a terrific draft haul for us.

I have a sneaking suspicion the 550k is the inaccurate figure. I guess we'll find out when we get the compo pick.

Agreed

Ok been seeing a bit about Scully and at 28 what would he be worth.

Let me ask this one, if you at the choice of keeping Dahlhaus at $500k for 4 years or getting Scully at $600k+ For 4 years. Who do you take?

Scully just. We don’t have much of his type and plenty of Dahlhaus type. And has been mentioned that we are moving to more of a precision kicking game style rather than contested ball style.

Scully fits the mould better.

Agree but that doesn’t suit the narrative of many here on BF....

Taking sentiments and loyalty aside - Scully easily.

Always been an advocate that you should go to the draft with your 1st rounder, plenty of potential A graders there but if an established A grade is on offer at 22/25 age group, ok. Prima Donna's all want to go to one of the top clubs so I won't be getting too hopeful.
