One of the more reputable posters on the Giants board reckons Aiden Bonar is on $380k per year for 2020 and 2021.

He was an injury-prone junior, who has played 5 senior games so far - why on Earth would you extend his contract on that kind of money? That is above average wages. I get that you want to extend your 1st round picks with generous contracts, and I'd expect that Bailey Smith will eventually extend on similar money, but he's actually part of our best 22. No wonder Giants have cap problems if this is even close to being accurate..
Giants / Suns have been overpaying their players to retain them. It isn’t unusual for a young player to get a contract extension early and on better money than at any other clubs.

This is why GWS are constantly offloading players who are overpaid to Carlton or other Vic clubs.

IF Vic clubs got really smart, they could refuse to trade for non-best 22 Giants and let them break the salary cap.

And doing it cheap as well, just have to look at Paul Ahern. Doesn't play a game in his first two seasons at the club due to injury but they sign an extension in 2015 and they end up trading him at the end of his second season to North for basically nothing.

Don't even know how/why Cameron is getting a mention...

If Whitfield wants to come home (Hawks fans are saying they are signing him off the street for free...LOL)

But IF IF he does want to come back to Melb he would be the player you would chuck a lot of money at to come across.

He is the best kick in the comp and the best pure outside mid/player

Whitfield honestly feels even less gettable than Cameron. I rate him a top 5 player in the comp (alongside the likes of Grundy, Cripps and Bont) and feel like he'd probably only move over to a major club (Hawks, Collingwood, Essendon, etc.). Would love either of Cameron or Whitfield, but realistically will never happen. Gunston I could see as distinctly possible, but not overly likely

We’re not requesting a trade: Brad Hill

I really wish this discussion was more realistic. Some of these suggestions of topliners like Cameron changing clubs are simply bull$#!+ and a waste of time.
It is quite literally not a waste of time, since no one is being forced to read or engage. If people want to discuss fantasy-land situations like trading out Brad Lynch in return for Fyfe, they can go right ahead and do that. Hurts no one, and you can simply mute anyone getting on your nerves

Suns did similar things too. Bonar hasn't really lit up NEAFL either.
It's how Ahern ended up at North for nothing, salary dump trade.

Jack Martin
Alex Keath
Josh Jenkins
Dan Butler
Michael Hartley
Isaac Smith

All realistic players than have been discussed at least. I think we do end up with a KPD, Jenkins, and perhaps a running forward of the ball player - is it true Rory Atkins is an RFA? We were interested in the past.

I get that and I'm happy to let people indulge themselves. It's not about them getting on my nerves, it's about wasting my time. Some people like me (and presumably Libba39) are only interested in genuine developments and legit leaks, and don't want to indulge in all the fantasy stuff.

Do we start a separate thread for that?

How realistic is Gungston??

I think it makes sense based on our history with Suckling and Duryea.

If there is a realistic packaging of players I definitely can see us dealing with Hawthorn and grabbing Smith and Gungston.

They will definitely help with our two major deficiencies - quality of inside 50 deliveries and goal scoring.

I don't think any of the above are what we need, although if Trengove wasn't going to be around next year I'd take a punt on Jenkins and throw him down back. You can't bring him in to play alongside Schache as a fwd, it simply wouldn't work.

We need a gun tall defender, a crumbing forward and athletic utilities.

Keath - haven't seen much of him but looks b-grade to me.
Martin - possible. We need someone with a few tricks up forward
Smith - no way. Why???
Butler - pretty sure we have his position covered
Hartley - don't know much about him. Will see thus saturday i guess.

On the back of hearing a rumour from a reasonable source a few weeks earlier, I was the first to mention Jeremy Cameron's name in response to RedWhite&Blue's post that mentioned a 'highly rated key forward' wants to come to us and nothing further. It's obviously unlikely to happen but it wasn't purely fantasy.

If its such a big deal to read through posts talking about trades which may or may not happen in the search for only solid info, why don't we just start a non-discussion thread like that Bluemour - Rumours Only thread on the Carlton board?

Many boards have separate threads for actual information vs hypotheticals. No harm in doing that, but then our trade thread is relatively inactive compared to other boards anyway. Saints get probably 5x as many posts as we do

Is it really that much of an issue? One trade thread is enough. Most ‘actual’ info is highly speculative anyway.

I don't think so at all (hence my response a bit further up). I'm just saying if people really care that much, we can split the boards into supposed "facts" vs hypothetical discussions. Although the Hawks do that, and their more serious board is filled with some of the most delusional crap you'll ever find on BF. Carlton's rumour board is filled with bullshit too.

Honestly, if people have that big of a problem with the chatter that happens on here, maybe they need to start ignoring people, or just not browsing this particular thread

I'm not advocating for all of them, just noting trade potentials we've been linked to.

I think Keith would be brilliant for us, an upgrade on Cordy as a defender in pretty much every capacity.
I think Jack Martin would play much better for us than he does at the Suns.

I don't think Jenkins is much of an upgrade on Schache and they both play the same way but rumours suggest we're his most likely club next year.

Hartley wouldn't be my first choice but more of a "if we get no other KPD" type plan. An upgrade on Cordy/Fletch as the no 2 KPD.

Ideal 2020 line up
B: Crozier Trengove Wood
HB: Johanissen Keath Richards
C: Hunter Macrae I. Smith
HF: Daniel Schache Cordy
F: Martin Naughton Lloyd
R: English Bontempelli Dunkley
I/C Duryea, Liberatore, B. Smith, Lipinski

I’ll be happy if we can land Keath and some pace and class forward of the ball. Don’t want Jenkins because he’s too similar to Schache and our team can’t carry both. Have the assets to get Smith, Martin and Keath this year. If we can still take an earlyish pick to the draft, fantastic. I like the idea of getting McAsey (especially if he’s a FB that can take the monsters) or a quality small forward.

Would let Morris (pains me to say it) Suckling, Dickson go/retire. Lose Porter, Webb, Roberts. Trade Williams. Shop Jong and Wallis around.

Hopefully grab some key position depth. Give Bont the captaincy.

Anyone that’s asks why Isaac Smith - adds quality, class and speed. Yes it could drop off. Yes it could happen quickly. It’s a gamble I’d be willing to take. Also provides experience with the possible loss of Morris, Suckling, Dickson and Picken off the list. We’d be insanely young next year.

I’m so excited for trade week this year. Any scenario with us landing Keath and not landing Jenkins is ideal.

Two seperate threads would be great, but our club simply just doesn't have enough posters.
And either way, people are still going to post we are getting Weitering,Moore,Cameron etc in the good thread so what can you do.
