Wingard spent a lot of time in the midfield this season, particularly in the second half of the year, while Gray who I’d rate as their best midfielder by a long way played almost exclusively as a forward. Maybe he sees himself as more of a midfielder who goes forward at times rather than the other way round.

Since we would’ve been pitching for him to come in and be our goalkicker considering the stocks of our midfield and forward lines respectively, I wonder if the chance to play full time midfield at Hawthorn played a big factor in his decision.

Taylor Duryea could be a good pick up. Experience and good skills.

Is there 2 Taylor Duryea's ?
Your certainly not describing the Hawthorn one.

As I have said before , he's been asked to clean out his locker as a 27 yr old in his prime.
They don't rate him.

No. I want people to be honest. I don't want yet another bunch of sugar coated delusional posts. I want our club to get better and it won't do that when the fans keep blowing smoke up its arse when it fails.
Power is our list manager. He gets some leeway with this being his first go but his job is to improve our list. From my perspective there is very little evidence he has or will do this in the short term.

Sugar coated and delusional because our default reaction isn’t losing our minds and chastising the club for doing absolutely everything wrong, despite the lack of any knowledge or understanding of how the situation has gone down? As the kids would say...omg

Wouldn't be surprised if the plan was to use next years first on Wingard then have pick 7 as Ben King.

That shores up the defence and provides a swingman and classy delivery into the forwardsas well as a small forward.

We can still do that if we can trade away some picks for some medium forward/mids and draft King given Adams going

I’m not one to usually throw out wild ideas but here is an idea I wouldn’t mind.

Would you trade for Burton and pick 15 for pick 7?

I think I’d be happy to slide 8 places for him. Burton apparently devastated about what’s happened.

Could dogs speak to him and offer him refuge here in Victoria away from the two clubs that devatsated him !?

Lol that’s the only thing I’d like here, a huge **** you to Hawks by getting him to announce us.

We didn’t get the player we were after, when said player was second choice for our competitor for his signature. That’s doing something wrong, regardless of what went on behind closed doors.

ah the annual finger in anus for us bulldog fans. So depressing but what chance do we stand over the Hawks, they will be picked over us every time. If Power really was offering Pick 7 and a stack of $ then i can't blame him for this one, he put it all out there, i blame the club overall and the people we have on the board. Now i'm sure they are great people and go beyond their duty for us but they just don't have the "pull" of other clubs boards in terms of post career opportunities and making a players brand better. Until that changes i don't think we will ever attract big name players consistently.

And we should be worried about Libba. No doubt odds are he will stay but he should have signed by now, especially after coming back from his first holiday. Why would they leave it this long into trade week when we need to know list spots and $ so we can go after other players. It just doesn't make sense to be a distraction in trade week. So there are only 2 scenarios... 1 we have absolutely low balled the sh|t out of him so he and his manager are making things tough ....2 Libba has real interest elsewhere.

Finally we must be paying massive overs to some players who dont deserve it. So next contract we will low ball them as well to balance things out but piss them off in the process.

To be fair, this board has contributed to my club being in the best position it’s been in my life of almost 40 years. I honestly believe that it’s our poor playing fortunes since the flag that have hurt our image. If you were to move to the dogs now on massive coin, it’s easy for people to perceive you as a money chasing mercenary. While you might move to Hawthorn on huge money too, they have an image in the football land that allows a player to point to a raft of things (some perhaps based on myth) that influenced their decision.

It is ok to want this from the club and its representatives, however it is disappointing to see character and performance assassination based on the first 4 days of a trade period.

Powers job is to put together and maintain a list to challenge for a flag. There are multiple facets in this.

One is keeping genuine match winning players we already have who are also committed to being part of the future.

Thus far we have lost not a single player in that category. Dahl was terrible this year and should have beem dropped and very ordinary the year before. We have signed our entire top 10 in our best and fairest for next season many with long term deals. Power has been part of that. To show he is really good at that a long term deal for Bont would surely lock that in as a good job.

We are and will always be a smaller team. No list manager will change that. We have to do it different to the big boys. Home games at Etihad and Ballarat will never be as attractive as playing for a big Melbourne club.

We need to draft quality, develop amd importantly keep that talent amd trade in role players. It worked for us and to a large extent the tigers, though they are now back to being a big club.

Success or failure of Power or anyone at the club will be determined over the fullness of time. Not on how we trade in the first 4 days of the trade period

Can definitely take this on board, although I should hope that we will not always be a small club. We can progress from this with sustained success and I hope that is what the club are aiming for long term.

Tbh, I don't much care.

On a more cheerful note, Australia has snatched a draw from the hungry jaws of defeat :)
That's a great effort in the second innings, considering we had 4 or so ducks in the first.

In relation to the Wingard rubbish. I am of the opinion that it would have been great to have him but I am not overly fussed. We won in 2016 with 3 traded players, Hamling, Boyd and Biggs, Now the coaching team has a chance to build their own list and so far I think they are doing a great job. Personally, I look forward to what the next couple of years bring.

Kane Cornes just said dogs and whorethorn both offered Wingard 5 years but Whorethorn Offer significantly more .. obviously got desperate and we knew he was a mercenary

My Hawks source told me the opposite. I am going to go with Cornes. Desperate times down at the Hawks.

IF Wingard was on a heavily front loaded contract, he would have been an UFA next year. Port cashing in a year earlier.

Delusional because you won't call a spade a spade. Somehow we always get diamonds with certain people, you know, as we continue to lose and get further down the club pecking order.

What I find a little sad though is that it is those same people that latch on to the "we're not a big, attractive club" trope as an excuse. It's bullshit and it's defeatist. We aren't a small club. We lie at the seat of the biggest growth area of Australia, in culturally diverse hipster cool Footscray, we won a premiership two years ago and have a list and coach many teams could only dream about. If you can't sell that, you're not trying hard enough.

I know it doesn't really fit the storyline of the last 12 hours, but maybe, maybe our club was being responsible here? Actually managing the list as it should and not putting us in potential trouble down the track? Just a thought.
