how dare you confuse the 10 same looking Geelong players
It's amazing how many of their players look alike.

The crowd you can understand, given most of them are related.

Got no issue with players getting whatever money they can get, but geez, feel sorry for all those gun players from 10 years ago that got nowhere near what average players get now.
Evidence of what strong unionism improving conditions over time can do.

Or it could just be that Australias growing population has led to a growing interest in the game, leading to a growing number of tv viewers leading to increased revenue for the AFl, which the AFL would always share with the players.
(I did start off strong)

No issue with the Hynes pick necessarily - we shouldn’t be drafting for need. Take the guy you think is the best player available. If that’s him, so be it, even if his place in the side looks uncertain right now - things can change quick. It would have been nice if the BPA at our pick also addressed a more urgent need but it’s just how that cookie crumbled.

The real issue is that we didn’t use the trade period to address any of our positional weaknesses. We sat back and got to the draft where anyone we take may but more likely won’t contribute to season 2025. Busslinger for example has given us 0 games in 2 years. This will likely change next year but point being you don’t want to be relying on draft picks for short term team success.

Without any real coaching changes, no known quantity list additions beyond Kennedy (possibly helpful but nobody would have picked as a need given his profile) and draft picks that are all varying degrees of mystery boxes…There hasn’t been much done here to indicate that we’re going to trend upwards of the 2022-23-24 holding pattern.

If you’re bullish on the list we had in 2023 then you would have a different perspective on all this. Personally I don’t see where enough change comes from and expect us to be bang on average as we have been the last 3 seasons. We have a lot riding on the ceiling of Sam Darcy really.

Think there is more riding on the improvement of Sanders, Garcia, and Gallagher than Darcy who has already stepped up to be a key contributor.

Agree. The other one I would add is Arty Jones. I liked his game as the harassing forward in the last round, unlucky to be dropped for the final.

With a big preseason, he can add to our mix in a position of need.

Big off season for him. Would love to see him make it.

I still think his place is further up the ground, just needs to have a big preseason.

The general commentary was that we got reamed on the Baz deal and there is an argument that can be made.

The net result though is Baz and pick 45 out, Matthew Kennedy, Cooper Hynes and a chunk of cap in.

MK and CH come across as solid citizens who love a scrap and have their teammates back.

I'll bet very few in our dressing room are feeling like we are worse off.

I suspect in a few years time we will be looking back fondly.

I think Bailey Smith is going to tear it up at Geelong and make us hate it all.

So far we have done nothing to address our need for speed. We really need Arty to come on leaps and bounds. He addresses our need for speed and has shown glimpses but jury still out if he will make it.
He just needs to find more of the ball. Whether he struggles to mentally put himself in good positions, or whether he is physically pushed aside every contest? When he has the ball, he does many things right. And he is very good off the ball. Just trying to put a finger on why he struggles to accumulate consistently enough. To many single figure games.
