When thinking about ATW remember AET

I just remembered AET. So many years ago , so far back in my mind. Adams Equity Theory. In summary if someone gets paid more than you do for what you perceive is the same output you crack the sass big time. It’s human nature. AET. Just saying.

You're comparison of Cameron to AMT is like comparing a television to a rocking chair. Cameron plays deep isolated in his forward 50 most of his ground time and basically has carte blanche from Fagan to freelance when the ball in his forward fifty and not apply as much defensive pressure as other Lions players like Bailey, McCarthy or Rayner (fair enough he's pretty dangerous). AMT will (if you've actually watched him this year) play half-forward and play up the ground as a link up player and one of Essendon chief ball-users entering f50 (a better comp for him would be Willie Rioli or Jason Castangna) in addition to kicking goals when Essendon's ball movement's flying. If we got him - I'm guessing he would probably play the role the McLean has played this year.

If it takes 650K to get him then I would do it.

I agree. I am not against ATW I am against 650. Overpaying might be necessary to get him here but my concern is the effect it could have on the rest of the playing group.

Why do we “need” to spend the money ? I’m not saying we shouldnt spend some money but why spend it just coz we have it?

We have Bont and Jack to consider big money contracts coming up.

Naughts English Dunks and Smith are all massively under paid at present.

Anything over $500k is over paying. Rather offer Keath or Hill extra money, than AMT.
IF Hill wants $1M, then that is fine with me, AMT isn’t his level.

We paid Tom Boyd 3 times what he was worth when we were on our knees getting kicked and that was our only way of response

We are in a far better position now so I’m against paying WAY OVER FOR ANY PLAYER not just Tippa.

I think that’s the true beauty of picking AMT up. He is such a unique player, with such marketability. He simply does things no one else on our team can do so no-one could besmirch him what he is being paid. Look at NicNat he’s been on close to a million for years and he hardly gets in the park. Never hear dissent from Eagles players.

These athletes that transcend team support for things they can do on the field I think you can pay without any equity issues. Players like Tippa, NicNat, Jeremy Howe, Buddy even Stringer.

It’s a big part of the reason if we are going to splash cash he would be the perfect person to do it to and not one current Doggies player would get upset.

3 of those 4 just signed a new deal this year.

Jack and Bont would both be in or around our top bracket (700ish I'm guessing for Jack and 800-1m for Bont would be my guess) already.

Personally I don't foresee either being the type to torpedo our chance at success by asking for a significant raise if they want to stay while we are in our window. It just isn't logical.

People are overrating our forward line to think we should walk away from tippa over a few extra dollars. Lloyd is the wrong side of 20, dickson is nearly over the hill. After that we've got no one. Cavarra is unproven (i rate him though), Ferg Greene has talent but jury is out as he is seemingly injury prone and West is a midfielder playing forward. Remind me if there is anyone else.

In two years if we dont get our asses into gear and recruit small, we will have wasted schache and naughton's contests.

Why do we care about about paying 200K 'overs'. we are probably struggling to make the cap as it is

Because historically, the great multi premiership winning teams pay their players unders. They do it consistently, and hold it as a rule.

So with a player who has a market value of $500k, when we're offering $650k, the likes of Hawthorn will be paying that equivalent player on their list unders - $400k.

Multiply it by 3, 4 or half a dozen players, and suddenly that is why, every bloody year, we are left asking "how the **** are Hawthorn fitting these guys in their cap?". It's because "let's just pay a little bit overs, who cares" isn't part of their list management strategy. Yes, they're on the way down now, but 4 flags and something like 11 finals since 2007 should be a solid body of evidence.

Geelong is the same. When Danger was worth $1mil-$1.2mil, other clubs were offering $1.5mil because "it's only a little bit overs", and Geelong got him for $800k, selling a culture of everyone in that team making financial sacrifice for the greater good. The "bit overs"/"bit unders" was a $700k differential. Equivalent of another A grader on their books.

And if you pay that differential just to get the good player on your books, then all the other players ask why on Earth they should take unders, when you're offering overs to others?

We've got the building blocks for a dynasty, i personally think tight, consistent, disciplined salary cap management is so critical to keeping this list together - the offers for our kids are going to utterly explode in the next 2-3 years. Have no issue with picking up any player as long as it's at market (or preferably below).

Watched Tippa very closely last night as I went to the game. Very comfortable with a 4 year 600k a year contract. Not anything more though.

Imagine what he could do with our midfield constantly feeding the ball into dangerous areas. He has an outstanding impact with his pressure and limited touches.

2 goals and 3 goal assists in a game where Essendon only kicked 10. He’s not as good as Rioli, but he certainly has a similar impact with his possessions IMO.
