You may be right about the seriousness of the injury but I don't accept the idea of plugging a hole and things will be fine. These weeks could be crucial to our fortunes next season especially if the draw pits us against some of the best key forwards in the business. The incumbent KPDs just don't fill me with any confidence.

Well it’s not like we have an alternative now...

We’ve committed. We want to treat blokes in this situation well or we will get a bad reputation.

The injury isn’t season ending.

Dogs will get AK cheaper, he’ll have a delayed start and then force his way into the team a bit later. We won’t even be talking about this in January The club can get him doing all kinds of cross training etc to lessen the impact of not doing a full preseason

The big downside is that he doesn’t have the whole preseason to develop chemistry and understanding with the other defenders.

On the keath injury, it should reduce his trade value from our 32 to one of our thirds.

As for setting him back, Bailey smith didn’t join the main group till feb last year cause of his Achilles and he had a pretty decent season. He also had not been in an afl system before. Keath has already had multiple pre seasons, whilst it’s a set back it’s not season ruining, he will be able to maintain and build fitness in other ways than running and if back training in January he will be right to go to within the first month at worse provided there are no set backs

Really s**t news about Keath.
Won’t start running until Feb next year which means virtually no preseason which means he’s likely to have an ordinary season. For as long as I can remember every player talks about interrupted preseasons leading to down years. Keath will be 28, we got him in for immediate results and we are not going to get it next year. Really, really bad news and I don’t blame the Dogs for downgrading his draft value accordingly.

Meh it's only a stress fracture. Keep his fitness up and we'll barely know a few weeks in. Cheaper trade and we hopefully get to keep/use 32 on Bruce. Bruce plus Keith and keeping 13 would be outstanding (without using future picks).

I’m not overly concerned. I was actually quite content with the job Trengove was doing during the second half of the season as a KPD and you know what you’re going to get with him, and Lewis Young seems poised to take the next step. I’ll back them in to hold the fort for the early part of the season.

That really is the most gentle of opening gambits. He's more or less saying to StK fans, we'll try and get a bit more than 32, but we might have to take just that.

We're in no rush, whereas they need the pick to do other deals, so no news on this one over the next few days is good news. We should be able to hold our nerve longer than they can.

All in all, it seems that Bruce and Keath for 32 and 41 is looking more likely now than it was before trade week started, which will leave us placed for a 3rd acquisition or leave us with a decent draft hand, either way a great result.

Keath cheaper, who will be match fit for finals?

Silver linings people. IF we get him for a third rounder we should be doing cartwheels, then trade a third and our second to upgrade to a higher second for Bruce.

Interesting the article said both St Kilda and Bulldogs medical teams suggested surgery, making the Crows the outlier. Getting it done now means the Crows pay for it too.

After the Tomlinson compo we have 32, 45, 51 and 53.

32 + 51 = 843 points, somewhere between pick 22 and 23. Freo have pick 26 and may want points for their NGA bid, that could work for Bruce although we may need more. 32 + 53 may get that pick as well.
32 + 45 = 931, between pick 19-20. That might be enough to tempt the Saints without a pick swap.
45 + 53 = 580 points, roughly pick 32. Do the Lions need points for an NGA bid? They hold pick 34.
51 + 53 = 492 points, which puts the value at the end of the second round.

You can only shake your head at the sheer incompetence of the Crows. What a s***tip that joint has become.

And they wonder why players are busting the door down to go.

I know we seem to have committed to trading in Keath but if some on here are correct in calling a mid season start to his availability, would we be better off walking away from the deal? For so long now we have identified our greatest need to be a KPD and we need one asap not when a season's half done.
Or, does patience win out over urgency?

List management! 3rd round pick for someone who can step up in the second half of the year? We have 3 third round picks. its a no brainer.

Jack Martin will coast on a big contract. Big no.

Has post 2016 contract andrew luck written all over it.
I'm not big on Martin, but Andrew Luck absolutely did not coast. Dude was dragging the Colts to they playoffs every year as a top 5 QB despite having no O-line and dealing with so many injuries he's retired at 29.

Joe Flacco is the ultimate 'coast after a big contract'
