Assuming Astbury is not available to us in FA (extends or chooses someone else) I wouldn't mind going after someone like Alex Pearce. He's still contracted for 2020, but is from Tassie meaning there's no home state factor. I've always massively rated him, and this year he's in All Australian form and arguably one of the best defenders in the competition right now.

Wouldn't hesitate to hand over our 2020 1st rounder, as well as an extra 2nd rounder or whatever else it costs. Would be a massive addition to our side and allows the Naughton move to be permanent

We were rumored to be very interested in him in the past. He’d be a great get.

Hadn't heard that, but that's positive. Rumours on Carlton board about us being heavily into a "top 5 Carlton player" suggests it may be Weitering, which would likely rule Pearce out. Would prefer Pearce, but Weitering has been very good this season and seems to improve every year after a relatively slow and choppy start to his career.

Either way, I just hope we're looking for a decent KPD as that would help our defence massively. Our list of small/medium rebounders and interceptors is as good as anyones (Crozier, Wood, Daniel, Richards, Suckling, Duryea, Williams, JJ) but our talls are very thin on quality (Cordy and Trengove the only proven ones likely to be on our list next year with Roberts and Morris probably gone at year end). I'm confident we have the players on our list to cover our medium forwards and midfield stocks for years to come, but a small forward shouldn't be out of the question either

Can’t see the Blues letting go of Weitering if it is him. Who else would play key back for them?

Yeah it's doubtful that it would ever eventuate. They still have guys like Jones, Marchbank and McGovern as potential tall defenders, but Weitering seems relatively untouchable. The rumour kind of puzzles me to be honest, because the guy suggests it's a top 5 player who is out of contract this year (which Weitering is not). The only player I can think of that fits the description is Kreuzer, but he turns 30 in less than a week. Not exactly something to get excited about, and with English constantly improving I'm not so sure a ruck is really our biggest need anymore.

The only good players out of contract this year are Kreuzer, Simpson (way too old) and Jones (doubt we'd come back for him and he's not a top 5 player at Carlton). The details given in the rumour don't really add up to any obvious candidates

It was Jones he was talking about

VUWO, Tuesday morning, senior coach Luke Beveridge is getting a coffee at Barkers, when his phone rings:

LB: Hello, Lukey B here...

Voice: Hey Mr Bev, it's L-Jizz.

LB: Who?

Voice: L-Jizz, you know, Liam Jones, I believe a previous coach referred to me as an "explosive animal"!

LB: Look mate, I don't know who you are, but how did you get my number?

Voice: Lukey D gave it to me. Anyway, you guys are looking for a key back, yeah? Well, I'm your man.
Plus I know the club song, and my goal-kicking is atrocious... but I can take a grab.

LB: Are you the ranga at the Blues with a head like a twisted moccasin? Hmmm, interesting.
I'm looking at reformatting the side, so EOY (that's a tax term, son) I'll be in the market for a pseudo
ruckman, two running half backs, and a small forward that has no defensive skill-set. Cool bananas?

I haven't read this thread for a while and pop my head in to find we're talking about Liam ******* Jones.

What. The. ****.

It’s time travel.... nothing to worry about, it’s all good....

Go after cameron offer him a lot around 1.2 million apparently what other clubs are going for he would be perfect

Hi guys I come in peace..what's the go on Josh Dunkley's contract?? I believe he is out of contract end of this year??

Seems to be a big part of our future I can’t see him being moved on. New number, big game on Saturday night, finished the year really well last season. Can see clubs asking the question though!

My source said he was looking to be traded to st kilda, apparently the saints have offered a 3rd rounder but the dogs are holding out for a 2nd rounder.

Can’t wait to see his signature on an extension but fear this will go down to the wire with numerous clubs interested . Would be over the moon if Sammy Power can get it done sooner.

I worry what his price becomes. Sydney, Richmond, Saints, Carlton and Essendon would all scramble to sign him on, and he could see some decent coin being offered (700-800k). We'd probably get a discount on that, but not nice spending so much on a position we have huge depth in

Pearce has been annointed 'next captain' status at Freo, he'd be a very difficult get and very expensive.

Sydney had their chance. No way he moves there when they had an opportunity to draft him F/S.
