Elliot is not what our forward line needs. Bailey Dale is a very similar player and although he's not as proven to be able to perform consistently as well as he did towards the end of the season, he also hasn't had as bad of an injury history as Elliot and is a lot cheaper that the 650+ that Elliot would be after.

We need to be looking at small pressure forwards in the mould of a Gryan Miers/Tom Papley crash and bash crumbing type.

Think we will have to look to the draft for a small forward. I like the look of Weightman but don't think we are going to have a suitable pick for him.
What other small might be around in the mid 2nd range that we could go after??

I think a more appropriate question would be who have we drafted in the first place with homesickness question marks? Bailey Williams is really the only one I can think of. I worry that if Taylor is going to be that much of a flight risk, is it worth drafting him? These are just rumours, of course, but it does still worry me. If it's not true, him/Weightman should be top priority when it comes to draft time

Are you Weightman's dad?

Aside from Steven, none of those players should be on more than an average salary and their total salaries would be about what you’re paying Hill now. The Saints haven’t exactly been frugal either, e.g. the amount Hannebery is on for the next four years.

Now you want to overpay for Hill, probably overpay Zak Jones, bring in Sam Gray and Paddy Ryder and were trying to get Alex Keath. No doubt there’ll be another defender you’re chasing since missing out on Keath.

Plus while doing all this you’re almost surely trying to keep your cap for next year as low as possible so you can go over 100% the following year for the first year of the Two Kings Ransom, as Max King’s extension kicks in and you try and Boyd Deal your way into Ben King.

You need cap space and draft picks. There’s a reason you’re putting Bruce, and Dan McKenzie only months after he signed a 3 year deal, on the market.

Ryder will apparently be on very little $$, the extra year got it over the line.

We’ve been WAY under the cap for years only spending 95%.

And the reason we’re putting McKenzie up for trade because he’s not that good, he was just a favourite of Richo lol.

Max has already extended, can’t imagine its on too much. If we do get Ben, it won’t be anywhere near what Boyd cost you guys

Said it on the Keath thread but I'll be staggered if we dont do a pick swap somewhere along the line with you guys.

We have the picks eachother wants

Out: 12,42, 46

In: 20 (from Langdon trade), 25, future 2nd.

12 should just get us ahead of any Henry bid given academdy/FS are normally bid on later than their rankings and we'll squeeze the rest of the points we'll need for a bid from St Kilda in the Hill trade.

Shall I formalise the paperwork?

This trade would be perfect for us. Love your work on the trade board also, Snuff.

You may not be under salary cap pressure but having pick 5 and then 55 and trying to accomodate trades for Hill, Ryder and others make the task tricky and difficult

Is there a reason why Dickson hasn't signed on yet? Is weighing up another offer or want more than 1 year or perhaps he's considering retirement thus Elliot?

I’d suggest it’s a wait and see who else we can nab. If not a Papley or Elliot type then he’ll orobably get another year. I think he was pretty good this year with his pressure and was seen doing the hard yards down back even. He has natural forward craft but age is catching up. Love to see him another year but think we won’t know until late. We may just need an extra list spot.

Happy to trade #5 for Hill with other stuff involved.

What do you think Ryder will cost? They’d be lucky to get 55 off us. They don’t want him and they want his salary gone as they are extremely tight

Other stuff for Hill is? Freo will want more than pick 5. You also have other targets Jones etc

If Bruce is worth pick 12 the hill is worth 2 first round picks he is also contracted to Freo for two more years so maybe they will just keep him as well 🤔

I like how some of them are using Rhy Stanley trade as justification for asking for 12 in a direct swap.

Maybe freo should use the Lachie Weller trade and demand 2 top 5 picks for hill 🤔

Clay Smith.

A devastating premature retirement due to knee injuries.

Wallis won't be going anywhere. Talk of Libba's demise is way too premature.

Wallis and Libba are walk up starts when fit.
Others such as West may be improving but they have still got to prove themselves better than Wally and Libba. They are some way off that at this stage and they don't have the physical and mental maturity.

Been thinking about it. They will want pick 25 back for Keath, not 30.

I think 25 is squeezing all the Crows can out of the Keath deal without being delusional, so I would still do it.

Out: 12, 25 (in and out), 41, 46

In: 20, Keath, next year's 2nd rounder from the Crows (a pick we really want given the situation with NGA and FS opportunities).

20 goes to the Saints for Bruce (20 + pick swap 48 for Saints 55 at the worst).

We retain pick 30 and either 48 or 55 and 84 for the draft (I understand you must take 3 at the draft - is that correct?).

In: Bruce, Keath, 30, 48/55, a smokey or rookie promotion pick 84 (Lachie Young)…(we also have next years Crow's 2nd rounder).

Out: T Boyd, Picken, Morris (all retired), + two others (you tell me who).

We should hold when it comes to the Bruce deal. Watch what the saints do over the trade period and if they land their targets cap pressure will come, and we’ll end up with Bruce at an enticing price

Suspect it’s just because we need to confirm how many list spots we have. Think he’ll get a one year deal after the trade period but don’t think it’s an absolute certainty he’s going on.

Lol ok good luck with that. The hawks and cats and circling for Ben already so that means you are in a bidding war with teams that actually have some success.

Perhaps you can pay him 800k for 5 years like a batteries Hanebery? Great piece of business there

WRONG AGAIN

Port have massive cap room, the Herald has a art muscle about their cap room a month ago

They want him gone coz he is sh!te.

Agree, they’ve backed themselves into a corner a bit and lost control over a number of the trades they need to get done.

If dickson gets anything longer than a 1 year deal at another club he should definitely take it.

Itd free up another list spot for a draft/trade.

I would have included him in our finals side
