That’s not my memory. I recall us trying him in defence and it not working. Couldn’t tell you how many times or who it was against so not a vivid memory but I am sure it was done.
Adelaide R6 2014 he played defence in the last quarter/second half of a close game, and it wasn't good.

Carlton did it right. Gave him time to develop at vfl level down back

Both Jones and Roughhead never worked out for us in defence when tested. Took another club to do it right.

Yeah, im always surprised when people say we should have kept Roughy or trialed/ played him in defense.

He played many games for us there including some very good ones. He was just inconsistent and prone to bad patches due to lack of intensity and intent and the tendency to just zone space (Higgins like), and yes a lack of pace at times. I recall a game against Adelaide in 2017 that we needed to win to keep finals alive, and he had the worst 20 minute patch of football as a defender in the 3rd quarter ive nearly ever seen, and the match was over like that.

He just lost the ability to apply himself consistently with us, and in fact has struggled with that his whole career. He needed a change of club. Thank goodness he held it together for us in 16.

I wouldn't say Jones is particularly that good for Carlton either, once you get past the clear bias of Carlton-aligned people who talk him up - he's part of the reason they're not a finals team.

That's a big call. I assume you saw Gardner play last year...

Those years under McCartney were farking abominable. and then listening to his press conferences. what a spud of a coach. and Peter rhode, FMD. That was absolute hell... I used to walk out of games at half time, it was so bad.

I was at that Adelaide match, so annoying to lose after a very good start. Jake Stringer played in defence as well, which was an experiment which didn't last long. With a backline including Tom Young, Liam Jones and Stringer, it's no wonder we struggled. Bad memories!

Rhode always struck me as being ******ed... It was like they felt sorry for this ex-player that obviously had a head injury and thought they’d let him coach our club. Dark times at the Kennel with him in charge
Turns out RW&B is Luke Darcy lol 😂

What was really cringe-worthy was the cheer squad banner proclaiming: "Peter Rhodes our brains trust" or something just as embarrassing.

Yea, as the post above said, it was ‘Rhode Our Mastermind’
A mate at work used to say it to me every Monday after another demoralizing loss... ‘How’s the Mastermind going mate’?

i always wanted that "our mastermind" banner as a memento, i used to crack up laughing every week, so ironic

It was previously “Terry Wallace - our mastermind” which was a bit more accurate, just a change of coach on the sign which in hindsight looks like an awful tradition they tried to uphold
