Would be surprising for Pickering not to extract a lengthy deal.
Between Pickering and Andrew I just have a feeling theres another party involved especially with the other contracts going around if Karl Amon is getting 4 years at 650k I struggle to believe either of the 2 mentioned would accept the same for Dunks who's a far superior player

I expect Dunks has got a $800k+ contract in front of him. No way do you leave your team for under $100k+/year extra.

A couple of itk posters have mentioned we are going fairly hard for players that are yet to be mentioned in the media

Just because it's not public knowledge that we are chasing someone does not mean we aren't making enquiries.
We had scouts at every NEAFL game the year we went after Tom Boyd.
Clubs don't just throw names on a dartboard 3 weeks out from trade period - they work on their managers all year (and sometimes longer)

Darcy Tucker has been mentioned in one WA publication (yesterday) as a potential Bulldogs target. Would walk into our best 22 as a wingman and is a defensive mid so can do a job if an opposition star gets off the leash.

Had a glance through Tom Boyd's book at a store yesterday, caught the bit where Pickering told Peter Gordon mid-2014 that GWS would only entertain a trade for Tom if the player going the other way was Bont or Griffen (and Tom says he nearly fell off his chair). Pickering has more front than Myers, even amongst the player management community, so nothing would surprise me when Dunkley eventually nominates his desired destination.

Also will re-iterate (again) based on Clarkson's comments a few weeks ago, and confirmed in Boyd's book, that by-and-large these decisions and initial negotiations are already taking place in-season. Wherever Dunkley nominates will not be a surprise to Power or Beveridge or any other senior figures at the club (despite what they may say publicly), as Dunkley and Pickering have probably already spoken with them and the other club/s weeks/months ago.

Same reason several media are beyond convinced Lobb will be a Bulldog next year. The actual trade might not be set in concrete, but the preliminary talks would have started a fair while ago. (Treloar being available so late in the piece a few seasons ago is an exception, mainly due to incompetence of Pies list management at the time.)

Have you read Tom Boyd's book Mofra? Either way, I'm sure you're aware Pickering/Boyd nominating the Bulldogs after Griffen wanted out was not a coincidence, it was all stage-managed for public consumption by Pickering and the club.

As will Dunkley's exit be.

This talk of getting another mid in any shape or form doesn’t make sense to me. It’s our stoppage set up and refusal to play a tagger when needed (when oppo get a run on) that needs addressing. Our midfield cattle is absolutely fine (and we win the contest there more often than not), despite our set up…I’m all in for a KPD as priority 1. Take Lobb if he comes over on a good deal, Grundy is never going to happen, adjust our gameplan!! We have crazy good young talent - Darcy, Naughton, English, JUH, Weightman, Baz, West, etc, but our set ups, selection and tactics are letting us down badly. This list with Clarkson would be flying…

If Clarko had the same dud assistants we'd be still in a similar position.

I haven't, but I read your post above mine and it makes sense

I have a feeling given how quiet it is someone like the bombers has a huge contract in front of him. There is no way Hopper and Taranto get 7 year 700k contracts and he's only get 600-650 for 4 years.

My thoughts exactly. Currently the media have jumped and ran with some BS Karl Amon type contract and focused on all the non-monetary reasons for a potential departure as they are the more sexy headline. When all is said and done his new contract should he leave will be massive.

It's hard to care anymore about the Dunkley circus

It's difficult for supporters to understand that one of their players does not love the club in the same way that they do. What we want to hear is the type of emotional statement made by Ellie Blackburn after last week's game versus Freo. She spoke words that I'm sure would fill every supporter with utter joy. And many other Doggy players have made similar declarations over the years. These are the players whom we embrace into our hearts as family.

Whilst the more pragmatic among us accept that players sometimes want to move clubs for opportunity or more money, there is an opportunity cost involved for that player. Treat it overtly like a business, and you will never truly be loved and you will never truly belong. At least in the context of Australian football...I can't speak for the more mercenary sports like soccer, etc.

Josh is a premiership player - a rare commodity at the Whitten Oval - so it is hard for us to compute why he would treat his relationship to the club so clinically. Surely, he'd want to be a one club player, with the promise of more premiership medallions to come? Well, evidently not. Fair enough - his decision. But most supporters - subconsciously or otherwise - do not like conditional love for their team. And it's even worse when that casual relationship has played out over time. We've had the trial separation two years ago, when Essendon came a'courting, and then two years of tight-lipped non-commitment leading to, as you say, the current 'circus.' Which is why, Josh...just go. You don't truly want to be here. File for the divorce that has clearly been on your mind for some time. We wanted you to be a legend, an icon, a part of our family. But you are not Chris Grant. You are made of different stuff. The affection of a football club and its supporters is well down your list of priorities.

Saying we don’t need midfielders is a bit strange.

We badly need an offensive and a defensive minded winger. The game is currently being played by rebound via fast midfield players, usually wingers. We don’t have anyone who can either shutdown one of these opposition players OR be one of these players for ourselves.

There is also never any hand wringing about players coming into our club. Lobb is making the exact same play as Dunkley and he’ll be welcomed with open arms without any of the same characters complaining that he is treating his move as a business decision and should be greatful to GWS/Freo (insert as necessary) for drafting/trading for him and owes them and their supporter bases….. Some players are mercanaries and some play for passion and pride and they all form some part of every footy team.

True. Although Lobb isn't a one-club premiership player with an oddly-close friendship with another player on the list.

Couldn’t agree more. Unless it’s pick 1/2 or father sons even midfielders take a few years to reach their peak. We need to hit the draft for mids now and trade for a KPD in my opinion. I don’t think he’s a star but I really wish we were hitting the Logue train a bit harder. Seems a more obvious list advance than Lobb to me.

Only one club because his last dash for the exit was blocked by the bouncers. Bloke can’t seem to escape quickly enough. He’s like a worm wriggling on the fishing hook of contract law. Nearly wriggled free now!!

Last time it was an almost double your money offer. It doesn’t sound like the Lions and Port offers are massively more than ours.
For whatever reason he seems to just want a change of scene/challenge.
I label him “Not a team player”.

Will he become the most vilified player to leave our club?
Remember when the pig shooter...i mean our gun mid Griffo walked out on us? How did that work out for us? If Dunks leaves, then so be it. The club is always greater than the individual

These behind-the-scenes footy-world books are eye-openers. I’ve read Tom’s and also Dani Laidley’s, although that’s from a slightly earlier era. We fans don’t know the half of what really happens. As someone has said, it’s all for show.

Nobody will ever take that mantle off Ryan Griffen.

Bont is the only person who could request a trade that would have the magnitude of Griffen wanting to leave at the time did.
And yet it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. Go figure.
