Will he become the most vilified player to leave our club?
Perhaps, but there have been a few others...some of us are old enough to remember Dempsey leaving for North, for example.
I still recall him being booed mercilessly, to the point of turning to the Dogs crowd (at WO) and giving them - us - the bird.

There is also never any hand wringing about players coming into our club. Lobb is making the exact same play as Dunkley and he’ll be welcomed with open arms without any of the same characters complaining that he is treating his move as a business decision and should be greatful to GWS/Freo (insert as necessary) for drafting/trading for him and owes them and their supporter bases….. Some players are mercanaries and some play for passion and pride and they all form some part of every footy team.

That's not really my point though. I'm accepting that the situation is as you describe. But I'm also conceptualising why many supporters are tired of the 'will he or won't he' Dunkley situation, and pointing out that players who are thinly disguised mercenaries are much less likely to create an emotional legacy amongst the fanbase. They cannot - and evidently do not - hope for the same level of love and adoration from fans. I doubt that so many supporters would be past caring about Dunkley if he had vocalised a genuine emotional conflict about his impending decision.

Am I the only one who has no emotional attachment to Dunkley and only ever viewed him as a mercenary? He is only interested in money I have no resentment for him for that but it's stopped me having any emotional investment in him hence i'm not worried if he goes or not as long as we are fairly compensated

Considering I've been posting that ad nauseum since 2019 I'd say you aren't.

Only reason I am annoyed about it is because he was one of the few mids this season who worked his ass off on field for 4 quarters.

I'm firmly in that camp too. It doesn't sit well with me that in his first season at the club he got to play in a flag and champs like Grant, Johnson, Libba snr etc all bled for the club over long careers to fall short of that achievement.

Show some loyalty FFS

Pretty much this.

I don’t resent him for leaving. Gave his all clearly for the club whilst he was with us. I’m appreciative for what he’s done. Won’t boo or talk down about him, at the same time, don’t care that he’s going.

He did and always gave his all and is and will always be a premiership player but he's not in the irreplaceable tier and if anything might be able to push us into action about fixing up our midfield deficiencies that crept in

Nathan Brown will always be. Although I have warmed to him since learning more about his situation when he left.
Ryan Griffen probably deserves it more.
Dunkley is just another Marcus Adams, Joel Hamling type.
Griff was a not too bright bloke who didn't realise the magnitude of what he was doing. B-Mac shoulders a fair portion of the blame.
Brown was low-balled after an AA season, not a fan of the guy but we didn't have the cash to keep all of our stars.

One of, for some of us.

Some talk about Griffen being Judas, but he had far more reason to leave the club than Dunkley, yet Dunks gets a pat on the back and a Well Wishes card by some supporters, and Griffen gets destroyed.

Our club was a shambles and he was in a hate/hate relationship with our head coach, who was difficult for a lot of players. If Griffen was guilty of anything, it’s not dealing with the trade process as well as he should’ve. But saying that, he doesn’t come across as the most switched on bloke, so we probably couldn’t have expected much better. Dunks handling is just as bad with this drawn out Days of our Lives trade drama. Wouldn’t surprise if Dunks sits at home, rubbing one out over news articles of his trade situation.

If Dunks leaves, to stroke the ego and line his pockets, I’d sooner welcome Griff back to the club down the track than Dunks.

We have lift off.

The joint is finally getting a freshen up. At last.

Don't stop now...

Saying we don’t need midfielders is a bit strange.

We badly need an offensive and a defensive minded winger. The game is currently being played by rebound via fast midfield players, usually wingers. We don’t have anyone who can either shutdown one of these opposition players OR be one of these players for

It was one long job interview for Dunkley. Classic contract year bust your gut play!!!

I’ve forgiven Griffin entirely.

It helped that he didn’t have much of a career after leaving and obviously the flag.

I wouldn’t say I’m emotionally attached to him. I just think he’s a bloody good player and exactly what we need in the midfield. He’ll be a huge loss and I’ll be gutted to see him in another guernsey.

He's still friends with a lot of people at the club, the old guard (e.g. Gia)
A simple country boy who has shunned the limelight since retiring.

He's a good player no doubt but he is replaceable his kicking just lets him down

B-Mac had a large role to play in why Griff made the decision he did. Would be hard to think that a lot of folk in their workplace would do anything different given similar circumstances. Would be good if the full story of his decision came out but Griff is definitely not entirely to blame.
This from someone who knows him.

as you say, Griffen's handling, or non-handling, of the trade process was the main issue, as captain he let his management shit on the club and spread lies about leaving for less money etc at a very low point for the club, was disgraceful and can never be forgiven, but you can definitely understand it given his personal characteristics and the situation he was in

Im always mixed about Dunkley given his limitations, have no problem with him chasing money, we will end up like the NRL on these things eventually, i personally hope he does leave and we pick up a gun burst midfielder with the pick we get

I won't boo him either, not like he has done a Jordan Dawson and promised fans he is staying, only to back flip. Yes it is frustrating we don't have an answer yet from him but whatever, if he leaves and just plays footy without burning bridges on the way out so be it. I hope he plays 99 fantastic games for his new club.

Jones left due to a B-Mac dressing down in front of the group which went way past the line.
Sackable offence in other workplaces.
