Considering we have been taken to the cleaners by 2 small forwards in the past 3 weeks, you would think we could utilise an athletic mid sized defender who we could assign those jobs.

I'm certainly on board. We need a good mid sizer down there.

On board with Broad?

We're of one accord!

We need to use Rookie spot better instead of the usual McComb types

Go for a bigger body taller player

Low cost, high risk but good reward. Nothing to lose

P.McCartin at Swans good example

I can’t believe some people are still suggesting Naughton go back. Absolutely staggering to me.

3rd for Goals, 3rd for contested marks, 4th for tackles inside 50, with a significantly improved statistical goal/behind ratio for 2022.

Not sure what more the bloke has to do. He's our best avenue to goal as well as the best pressure forward.

Not to mention our structure just isn't suited to an interceptor. Far too many times we get caught one on one.

Anyone else finding the Lobb commentary a tad weird?

“Wanting to inform Freo early so it gives them a chance to get it done..”

They are a premiership contender and it’s round 16..why’s he making moves so soon?
Not for footy reasons, he just wants to be East. Tried to get back to GWS last year but it fell over. Just wants to get things done early to avoid that happening again

I'm crossing my fingers that Dunkley chooses anywhere but Essendon.

I couldn't handle another trade period with Dodo talking tough and their peanut supporters' brainless hypotheticals.
Im crossing my fingers that Dunkley chooses to stay*.

Im not sure that essentially turning Dunkley into Lobb is going to do much to address the fundamental issue that we have.

Sam Power will find a way.

*Not literally as that seems a bit painful and pointless.

Sadly we absolutely pissed away lewis young. Just horrendous management of him. How did we pick Cordy over him consistently.

Our club and KPP players just don’t work.

Hope we don’t **** the development of JUH or Darcy.

There is a crazy theme in this thread.

Is anyone watching the game tonight? Please tell me on all available evidence that you're all joking if you think Young would make one iota of difference to our team.

Under-sized. Soft. Makes poor decisions.
He is Gardner. He is Cordy.
He's now Cleary. Who looks a good pick.

Also, what's afl the negatively about Keath??
He's held the backline together so year. One slightly below average game and it's curtains?

My god. Have I missed the boat on this one eyed supporter deal. (That's a statement, not a question).

Keath has been poor most of the season
Young is better than Gardner

I think we are splitting hairs. The whole backline save for Richards, Dale and Keath (save for recent form) could go and we would get better.

Not getting into the whether we should have kept Young debate.

But we have a tendency to not tolerate a single bad game from a tall whilst persisting with howler games from mid sized players. The only exception probably being Gardner but in all honesty that persistence was out of spite for the media and noise around Gardner. All of Young, Schache, JUH, Cordy, Sweet, Khamis have been thrown out of the team for sustained periods after a down game or two.

Mccomb plays 10 games in a row just to prove your point.

There have been quite a few others either not up to it or clearly out of form that just kept being played.

I am a massive believer that you have to take some pain and bad games when developing talls. They will get outmuscled/monstered at times, may barely touch the ball some games but if effort and intensity is there you persist with them so they can adjust to the level and find there feet.

About time someone called out a major issue for more than 5 years. We seem to think rookies are merely to provide opportunities for those who perform well at lower levels.

Rookies are a cheap opportunity to develop players in positions of need over a 2 year period

There are enough posts/threads on here about Schache.
Effort and intensity you say? He's shown over the course of his career that he can't/ doesn't bring either consistently.
And not to the point of a "down game", but a genuine liability when his heart's not in it.
(For one reason or another).

You can't possibly include Khamis in this. Played 5 straight.

You can't possibly include Cordy in this.

JUH is finding his way.

Basically, it's not possible to have the "We're in the window, we need to win" and the "give them a go, they'll come good" mindset.
They don't gel.

As for McComb specifically, tell me who you'd play instead?
Genuine question.

Duryea one of the best 1-1 players in the league.
Daniel who's distribution of of the back half is essential for our game.
O'Brien has been poor. Crozier too...and that's it. Cupboard bare.

So you can either sack 3 or 4 players, or come join us in the real world...

Never said give them all a go and never specifically mentioned this year, it’s been a trend for years. There is less patience for talls from our selection committee.

As for McComb I’d play plenty ahead of him.

Play Cleary back and push Williams into McCombs position.

Bedendo showed more in a half than McComb has so far so he’s an option.

Would have played Garcia ahead of him rather than as sub.

Would have played crozier ahead of him and pushed Daniel higher up to use his kicking.

McNeil offers more upside in terms of ability to develop.

Roarke for all his limitations works harder, defends better and is more desperate so would play him ahead of McComb too.
