Keith and Jones will be 31-32 next year. That leaves Gardner as our only KPD on our entire list.
Even if we draft in a bunch of Key Defenders in this draft, it'll be 2-3 years at best before they hit their straps. We desperately need some cover there. 5% is better than playing Caleb Daniel at full back.

Crozier was 26 and had just placed top 10 in the B&F two years in a row. Ideally the 3rd year would have had a games trigger but not entirely unreasonable.

Agree on McComb and (at the risk of being repetitive) Hannan was the other bizarre one for me. I’m not saying Hannan should necessarily be off the list but extending him before he came back from a long concussion layoff and was about to be moved to a new defensive role he’d never played before was a bit odd.

Crozier got another 3 years in march 2020 before the season started on top of the year he had left. What was the rush? Only 15 games for year, I can’t remember if it injury form or just a short season but it was definitely short sighted thinking it terms of signing him.

Yep I overlooked the year he still had to run. Agree then that there was no rush to effectively commit for the next 4 seasons. Should have been 2 years (3 seasons) which was the same time period he had when joining the club or we should have waited for the season to play out.

Little chance of attracting McGluggage even though he is a Ballarat boy. He's still contracted for another 2 years and would undoubtedly consider his chances of winning a premiership are stronger with Brisbane than with us.

If the Lions won't satisfy us in a trade, am I correct to assume that Dunkley's options essentially become either:

A) Re-sign with us; or
B) Go to the preseason draft and get picked up by a club like North?

In that event I'd imagine he just re-signs with us.

If that's the lay of the land then we actually have quite a bit of leverage.

Sam will walk him to the draft unless he gets 2 first round draft picks or equivalent value.
That's the mindset walking into any negotiation.

He’s mentioned a few times now that we actually have decent leverage in the trade given there is absolutely no chance the Lions can walk him to the pre season draft.

I would prefer Schache on the list than Cordy.

I would also prefer Cordy on the list over O’Brien.

I agree with this.

I get why people say that if we walk him to the draft we don’t get anything. What we do get is the stopping of a potential flag rival getting even stronger. We need to be sure this is understood by the Lions.

We don’t have Lobb yet.

Regrettably, I think Bruce is cooked.

That leaves Naughton, JUH & Darcy. I would play Naughton CHF, JUH at FF. Darcy forward pocket.

Schache could/should survive in our squad as an addition to the above, either forward or back.

If Naughton gets injured suddenly we look a bit thin with 2 young fella’s in JUH and Darcy.
