Font think it would have made a difference, we’d have wanted more than the compo pick for him and would have matched the offer, forcing the Lions to trade and putting everyone in the exact same position as we are now.
The issue is that he’ll reset whatever happens and wherever he goes now.

The contract offer would have been strong enough we wouldn’t have dared in another context.

They wouldn't have two first round f/s kids to match bids on next year though.

Main draft is literally impossible for the lions.

basically they would need to do a trade on draft night after ashcroft has been bid on. Plus that pick would have to be before our pick 11.

So basically a pick between 3-10. All they have is a future first. All their other draft assets are dried up. And a future first ain't going to get them in the top 10.

Basically if the lions **** this they only have themselves to blame by not trying to get a player to move that has some currrency. Dev Roberton the obvious choice.
Surely we ain’t using pick 11 though that would be an even bigger disaster than losing Dunks for nothing haha,

But yeah it’s on them, they don’t even need to move a player. They have easily enough currency right now. 21, F1 & F2 gets it done right now but nope still being ****s. GWS doesn’t bid and they easily have all the points required or worst case they slip next years F2 down a few places - big deal.

The fact they’re still being campaigners and trying to keep 2x F2s next year over prioritising this speaks volumes

Not just our pick 11 though. It could be anyone. I'm sure there are teams in the window who would draft him at 12-16 as a free hit and ready to go mid.

Where are these two first rounders coming from? Are you including the one that we already have? You do realise that if Dunks goes to the draft, we'll still have our first rounder next year, right?
Ok? How is that a counter point to what I said? 2 1st rounders a better than 1.

Couldn’t they do their F1, and a couple of the F2 picks they hold during the main draft after they get cleaned out with Ashcroft? Or can’t you trade F picks during the draft? Not sure how it works but they still have the Geelong F2 and F3 as well as their own which would mean they could trade a F1, F2 and F3 for say, pick 10 as long as they keep their own F2? Is that right?

They rejected it for Port.
Ok so they did. Point of post was that we are the last of the BIG news trades from start of trade period. AFL would love it if it lasted until the end as their trade partners get more listeners/viewers.
Rest was tongue in check stuff as to how much the AFL would like it.

I don’t get obsession with “sending a message”. The only people I hear saying sending a message is important are fans. The next player that wants to leave the dogs won’t give a shit about some imaginary message Sam sent this year. Having an extra 1st round draft pick next year is far more important.

I think the off putting part of it is that Geelong are able to restructure the contract and spread it out over more years.

Why couldn't Suns do that? (Or is it simply a case of him refusing to do so? )
And taking 2 years pay spread over 4. No alarm bells there 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Luckily it’s just the AFL test and not the pub test.

This from The Age. Disturbingly it also says we are considering 30 and a future 2nd for Lobb and a late pick.

The Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions have not advanced talks on a trade for Josh Dunkley with the Lions offering pick 21 and their future first-round pick, but want pick 39 this year back so they can recover some points needed for father-son selections Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher.

The Bulldogs won’t hand over 39 and want the Lions to add later picks to the pick 21 and future first-rounder that is on the table.

Deals to be done should be:
Lions out: 21 + F1 + F2
Dogs out: Dunkley + pick 37

Freo out: Lobb to WB
GC out: Sharp to Freo
WB out: F2

That is as fair as you can get. Completes the trades. IF possible I would prefer pick 37 to get to Freo…. but don’t expect that to happen, Lions are prickly.

Should do 39 & F2 for Lobb I’d be fine with that, 30s a pretty handy pick this year.

I’d take Hollands before Fletcher.
Brissy won’t pass on him it’d be pointless when all they gain is they don’t lose their late picks. They will 100% be taking him even if bid comes at 12 IMO - especially if we already know Ashcroft bid has come at 2.

I’d be bidding **** em

Sam Power could always throw in a threat to put in a bid on Fletcher at pick 11 to take the Bears into points deficit next year.

Let’s call it the Putin option.
