Let the speculating begin.

I still maintain that Jones is an unknown quantity at this point.
The step up to AFL is massive. I still remember a cooked Scott West getting 40 possessions on one leg and even this year Bruce on one leg and no fitness kicking five.

A former coach once was asked why they don't give senior players an extended run in the VFL when they lose form. They answered that older players get used to the level and find it hard to step back up, and sometimes never recover. Jones had a full year of this. Hopefully he is an outlier but I wouldn't be relying on it.

Lobb I'm happy to have on the list but it was a fair bit to pay if Darcy develops quicker than expected.
I’m not fussed with pick 30 this draft so look at it as a 2nd rounder for 2023. If we can fill the Dunkley hole (our biggest concern) and address the horrid coaching plan we had this year, we are structurally massively ahead having a mature forward/ruck. I think Freo got good value, and Lobb was certainly no steal, but I don’t feel bent over the way 21 would have given my anoose some pain….

The issue is that the Cats won with an old list because they had Selwood, Hawkins, Tuohy, Smith, Dangerfield, Blicavs etc in their over 30s. Fair argument to be made that Libba is our best >30 and then it's a chunk of B or less graders. Not to say we can't win with the list we've got, but it'll take some big efforts from our guys in their prime and some others pushing through.
I think what also helped Geelong is how bad we fell away. And how the dees from no where fell off a cliff. Ports bad start. All of who were supposed to be the contenders. They were then challenging with Sydney, Freo and Collingwood who skipped a season and jumped straight into contention. And then there was Brisbane who barely win outside of the Gabba.

In all seriousness, I do think we have a good combination of age/experience in all areas now with the inclusion of Jones/Lobb
Too old in defensive, but again high expectation we get top young KPD in the next few drafts
Mid: prime age, Bont/Mcrae/Treloar+Libba+Baz/Westie definitely not against getting young inside/outside mid
Forward: best combination of age I guess, Naughton/JUH/Weightmann with Bruce+Lobb
Next 1-3 years are our windows. As you said missed these years, we miss the opportunity

I do think it was a weaker year, but it's hard to dispute that Geelong put together a seriously impressive season. They weren't really threatened at any point and I'm not convinced any team got even close to their form, even in patches.

Now I'm off to throw up from praising that gross club

With the new cap flexibility

Would love dogs to chase Noah Anderson

I would say Hunters cultural impact had very little to do with Dunkley's decision (if any) to go especially as Smiley Boy knew he was not going to be there regardless of a trade or not, so I would assume players were aware of that.
Yeh. I worded it poorly. It’s just a non zero factor. My mate said it certainly wasn’t the whole reason.

It’s not a list of our stars at least. Darcy, Weightman, Richards are the priorities. Libba won’t leave. Gardner, Williams are also important but I honestly wouldn’t be losing sleep over any other player on that list.

It's an interesting list. I'd suggest this years out of contract was far more quality.

Respectfully the only ones I think may command significantly more on their next contract as they have on their current ones are: Darcy (though I'd expect the raise here will be minimal and will be a no fuss re-signing), Weightman, Richards and maybe Khamis depending on how he comes on next season.

Was the reason GC packed up Bowes+pick 7 to create cap space for him and Rowell to re sign next year?
You never know but hard to see we can snatch him though
but we have to remember, it is Gold Coast
so anything can happen

Not sure if mentioned, but according to draftguru we currently have the second-oldest list in the league next season. Oof.
Well everyone did suggest copying the Geelong blue print. First Bevo suggests we are spreading the money around and not overpaying. Now the list management team have jacked our age profile up. We are getting there. Just need Kmart to jump on as a sponsor to open up some jobs for the Wives and GFs, and im sure there is some nice cheap farm land out the back of Melton we can use to entice players over.

Beveridge has had long enough to foster a strong culture. He's failed in this. We have just lost two best and fairest premiership players in their twenties. We have lost a tall who showed real promise in defense but was never given a proper go in this position.

We have recently lost two highly-rated assistant coaches.

We haven't brought in proven leaders (on and off the field).

I can't remember the last time we made the top 4.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't see us making finals in 2023.
You are wrong.

Mitch Wallis: 2022. Gone this year
Stefan Martin: 2022. Gone this year
Charlie Parker: 2022 (Rookie) Rookie

Josh Bruce: 2023. 1 year at a time if body holds
Hayden Crozier: 2023 1 year at a time
Bailey Williams: 2023 2 more
Laitham Vandermeer: 2023 see mid year how Hammys go
Ryan Gardner: 2023 2-3 more
Tom Liberatore: 2023 keep adding a year but this year 1 plus option.
Cody Weightman: 2023 3 more
Ed Richards: 2023 3-4 more
Tim O'Brien: 2023 pass
Sam Darcy: 2023. Love 5 with last 3 higher
Arthur Jones: 2023 pass
Luke Cleary: 2023 2 more
Mitch Hannan: 2023 sign again if used forward or maybe wing
Dominic Bedendo: 2023 2 more
Toby McLean: 2023 wait and see
Buku Khamis: 2023 (Rookie) elevate after for 2
Robbie McComb: 2023 (Rookie). Wait and see if can be used as small forward. No rush.
Cody Raak: 2023 (Rookie) can re-rookie?
Lachlan McNeil: 2023 (Rookie) pass
Jordon Sweet: 2023 (Rookie) keep as still believe he’ll be a decent tap ruck
Roarke Smith: 2023 (Rookie) extend to 2024 on main. He’s earned it
Anthony Scott: 2023 (Rookie) He’s the one I’m unsure of. Must do something for team balance and been ok. Unsure if much upside. A wait for me.

I know that has me keeping depth players but still has 3 to go next year and 5-6 wait and see. That probably gives 4-6 leaving which is around the norm for top 8 sides.
Cheap depth is what makes a salary cap work.

I can't see any of those listed players leaving bar Williams. I think he'll be the most likely to leave as a FA.

Only a gut feeling.

Not as massive in terms of quality though.

Josh Bruce
Hayden Crozier
Bailey Williams
Laitham Vandermeer
Lachlan McNeil (R)
Tom Liberatore
Cody Weightman
Ryan Gardner (R)
Anthony Scott (R)
Ed Richards
Roarke Smith (R)
Tim O'Brien
Jordon Sweet (R)
Sam Darcy
Arthur Jones
Luke Cleary
Buku Khamis (Cat B Rookie)
Mitch Hannan
Dominic Bedendo
Alex Keath
Toby McLean
Cody Raak (Cat B Rookie)
Taylor Duryea
Robbie McComb (R) ??
Of those there are only really three that I would be desperate to retain: Darcy, Weightman and Richards (and Libba provided he doesn't fall off a cliff), and it's hard to see 2-3 of them going elsewhere. Would be sad to see some of the others go but they're replaceable.

Just shows how much our list has deteriorated in the last few years. I remember a couple of years ago, we were struggling with who to delist. Now there are 21(!) where we won't lose any sleep over.

Half a dozen of the lesser lights will get opportunities next year and that list might look a lot better in 9 months.

Mitch Wallis: 2022 happy to offer 1yr on minimum/or rookie list
Stefan Martin: 2022 retire
Charlie Parker: 2022 (Rookie) delist

Josh Bruce: 2023 1yr if in form & can continue
Hayden Crozier: 2023 likely delist
Bailey Williams: 2023 extend
Laitham Vandermeer: 2023 likely delist
Ryan Gardner: 2023 extend
Tom Liberatore: 2023 please for the love of god be able to keep going, extend
Cody Weightman: 2023 extend
Ed Richards: 2023 extend
Tim O'Brien: 2023 delist
Sam Darcy: 2023 extend
Arthur Jones: 2023 too early to tell, but needs to show improvement
Luke Cleary: 2023 too early to tell, but needs to show improvement
Mitch Hannan: 2023 delist
Dominic Bedendo: 2023 extend
Toby McLean: 2023 extend
Buku Khamis: 2023 (Rookie) extend

Jordon Sweet: 2023 (Rookie) extend, need ruck depth regardless of people’s thoughts
Roarke Smith: 2023 (Rookie) unsure, contract year
Anthony Scott: 2023 (Rookie) unsure, contract year

Let the speculating begin. These decisions are basically a done deal as confirmed by me.

Just had it confirmed to me by a pretty good source that Smiley Boy is correct on the Hunter stuff. And that he had a profound negative cultural impact which had some influence on Dunks leaving. I do wish Lachie well and hope he gets things together.

The club has to make this the last of our drama. Been a drama every 3 years since 2014. Sick of it
What actually happened though?

I’m not saying we should’ve kept him (game as gone past wing accumulators who can’t kick), as there’s obviously something there.

But would just like to know what he did.
