Just been confirmed on the clubs website that Taylor Duryea has Re-Signed until the end of 2023

De Koning is a really exciting prospect and he was managed beautifully by the Cats coaching staff all year. Rarely was he left exposed or left to the Wolves with a 100kg gorilla. He had a solid year that was made to look amazing by those around him.
Yeah this, it’s really not far fetched to suggest Darcy can do what SDK has done. He looks great but he has a very solid defensive structure around him to help out.

SDK ran a 3.15 20m so let’s not pretend he’s that much quicker than Darcy if at all, he’s mobile for a 200cm bloke as is Darcy. He just doesn’t look slow because he plays in a competent defensive system.

He’s also super competitive which holds him well 1-on-1, we’ve seen the same traits from Darcy too. They’ll both be practically unbeatable one on one due to sheer size and reach they’ll inevitably be stronger than most and with the ridiculous reach beating them one on one will just not happen. And will both be elite intercept marks, Darcy looks like he could quite easily be the best mark in the league.

I imagine in a few years, once Darcy settles into our forward line, SDK will play on Darcy for years to come.

Honestly hope not. Skinner is a bit of a dive and I'd much rather the boys train in a good spot like Yarraville or Williamstown.
Obviously have not driven past Skinner for a while. Immaculate purpose built and developed ground to take the pressure off the WO now with 4 teams using it

When you look at the Cats this year they had a fair chunk their team over 30. Selwood and Hawkins at 34, Smith 33 and Danger 32 and a few 30 and 31.

Our ‘window’ has a long way to being shut. This years trade window was bad in the sense that we haven’t gone a long way forward yet but we still have the core of a premiership team that has at least 5 years in it.

Cordy, Dunkley, Schache, Hunter, Parker, Butler, Martin out and Jones and Lobb in. Means we are still thinking of both contending now and keeping us in the frame for as longs as we can with 5 new players to bring in this year and an extra first rounder next year.

Then at the start of the Geelong window - let’s say when Bont is Danger age and Macrae is Selwood Age. That is six years away.

There will be a changing of the guard in that time in defence given the age of Jones, Keath and Duryea but in three years we will have three more years at our peak.

Let’s assume we bring in someone like Stocker (Hard nut in defence) and Lewis Taylor (too good but behind a Heap of small forwards at Sydney) as rookie rejects for now and 3 from the draft such as Busslington/ Hayes at 11, Konstanty/George or best mid at 21 and Phillips or a young ruck at 39.

Then in three years this is what we look like - with * beside someone at their peak:

Weightman* JUH* Darcy*

Konstanty Naughty* García*

English* Bont* West*

Trelor/Bedendo Macrae* Smith

Phillips/Khamis* Busslington Dale*

Richards* Gardner* Stocker/Crozier*

Int: McLean* Libba (33) Cleary Daniel*

That’s a pretty good team without what we add over the next three years.

Others who will still play with injuries and form and could nail a position if they still keep improving: Williams, McNeil, VDM, Raak, Roarke, Scott.

Obvious gap in tall defence but expect we will look to trade in again in a couple of years.

Other is ruck - Sweet will keep improving hopefully and we will have the other player from this year. So will have two in VFL (a minimum) At 39 will be a decent pick.

BigFooty targets if they are still on the list - both have talent but need to find their groove - McComb and Hannan.

If we bring in Taylor I'll spew

The thing about Darcy is that he's played what, about 15 games of footy in the last 2 years (and had lockdown in the year before that), yet had developed massively as a player since then. I know we were excited internally, but he was what a 2nd/3rd round talent this time 24 months ago. Yet, his development has come in leaps and bounds despite the lack of game time. If he's developed that much despite actually getting on the park so infrequently imagine was 20 games this season will do.

Frederick , stack, or evans?

I would say the most likely to have an impact would be Stack - but I think he comes with the most risk and I can't see us heading in that direction after recent issues.

Anyone knows when the preseason begins? Where are the doggies training now that the WO is being redeveloped? Skinner reserve?

Honestly hope not. Skinner is a bit of a dive and I'd much rather the boys train in a good spot like Yarraville or Williamstown.

Exactly. If we're still using Skinner Reserve like it's 1991, then we're in trouble.

For those unaware or who don't follow the redevelopment thread, Skinner Reserve recently went through a $3 million redevelopment of which we paid half as Whitten Oval's surface would be unavailable for approximately 6-8 months due to the redevelopment as well as the fact we now have 4 teams across both our programs and as such Skinner will become a secondary training venue for the club going forward. This is now common practice across the AFL but obviously we could not construct another oval next to Whitten, the same way some other clubs can at their home.

The entire surface was regarded, resurfaced and drawn to Docklands dimensions, a two-lane running track was also installed as were new lights, interchange benches and goal posts.

Our AFLW team has been training there for the entire 2022B season and I suspect our AFL team will also be using it over the next few months as well.

Now as to Whitten Oval, the regrading and resurfacing is on track to be completed and ready for our senior men's and women's teams in February while the overall Stage 2A/2B redevelopment will be completed by the end of 2023/start of 2024. This is what the surface looked like around a month ago...

Do you know if the Whitten Oval dimensions are being altered as well? Or sticking to the same as before?

Sad seeing the entire surface now gone. Each blade of grass that once had the blood, sweat and tears of many legends pour onto it. But that being said, I am excited for the future. These upgrades are essential to keep up with modern day standards, and will be beneficial for the club long term.

I’m a bit confused. We look to be taking 3 picks to the draft as it seems Sweet & Buku being elevated. Then leaving 2-3 rookie spots depending on where Buku was listed.
If contract thread it correct , Gardner is sill a rookie and surely deserves a spot on main. I’m hoping that doesn’t put us at risk of losing him. Then there is Smith. How can he still be a rookie and coming into free agency next year without ever being on main list? Surely by now we’d have to promote him.

Player profile states elevated 2020. Guess list not correct.

I thought Gardner was main listed last year?
