In terms of Power seeing the list

Ideally, giving up our first rounder won't be as impactful

No father-sons next year and the Acadmey players aren't top 15 talent atm

So giving up potentially pick 15-18 (based on list profile) for a top 4 talent

It's a win win for us

Also reduces the salary cap for us next year since first rounders are now 3 year deals
In the simplest terms it’s essentially using our F1 to pay for Croft and having 10 and 17 pay for 4 and some change. I don’t want to use our F1 but I can see how the club will justify it.

Twomey says we are still in the box seat for pick 4.

Our future 1st is a part of our offer and we will get picks back this year for Croft.

Not adverse to using 10, 17 & F1. A lot of talk on what if we are a bottom 6 team next year as a reason why not but what if we are a top 6 team (should have been if we beat the hawks and west coast this year). 10 & 17 is more like 12 or 13 and 22 ish once extra picks for free agency, academy and father/son happen. 13 & 22 is well short of what would be required for a chance at the A+ talent. If we finish the same as this year which we all think was below where we belong the trade would be 13, 22 and future pick 10. If we get some else coming back (F2 ?) and pick up an A+ talent then I am doing the deal. We get Croft no matter which scenario we go with, I would rather a chance at an A+ talent than more speculative selection if we are lucky at pick 13 if Croft does not get bid on before hand.

English’s and Naughton’s manager on trade radio.

Think we are going to sweat on both of these. Reading between the lines it seems like both want to see how we go next year before deciding. Wasn’t overly positive but it’s also his job to create hype for his clients to get them the best contracts. He said basically every club has enquired about Naughton.

Ironically Naughton will have a big say on how we go next year, he's in control and if he takes the marks he should and kicks the goals he should, it'll go a long way.

So, instead of his manager seemingly 'seeing how we go next year' maybe it's up to Naughton to lift his game.

I thought we had Cooney and Eagleton available next year... or is that the year after?

Cornes going with Gardiner should be looking at new clubs. After the bloke just won his spot in a finals team, proved he is very capable and knocked back a 4 year offer from us last off season, signing another three with the lions.

But yes, after playing in a GF as the most rock solid option down back he will now be looking elsewhere.

Good one, Corn.

Yeah didn't sound overly great.

"Wait and see" were his words with Naughtons future haha

The respective Managers aren't too concerned about the players, they are looking for deals that will earn themselves bigger profits, they are as concerned about a player as a used car salesman is about the car he's selling, its all money to them.

The concern is that if we use our future 1st, and if nothing improves next year and we continue on the same trajectory (not out of the question), then we could be hit very hard by that fall given we won’t even have a high draft pick as consolation prize. It’s a very all in approach, and given the state of our coaching panel right now, I’m not liking that risk.

My mind could change if we see decent recruits come in, and don’t have a repeat of the 2021 offseason where we scrapped the bottom of the barrel for two line coaching positions

Thought I heard Jaxon Cooney is quite a tall lad already, might have another f/s KPP on our hands. Wtf is going on, used to be the team with no talls and suddenly have an abundance coming through

I wonder if us being willing to include our 2024 first round pick this year, is because we anticipate receiving a first round pick/picks via trade next year.

BahaHa, the same Cornes who ripped into the dogs for their poor selection of players? And he did mention Gardner in that on footy classified.

Now he’s saying he should move on?

😂😂

Remember that vague talk of Ginnivan a few weeks back.

If you start your year caught with illicit drugs in the toilets of a pub, go to the races the night before a GF then have a quiet game, doubt this endears him
to the coach.

If we're hellbent about trading our F1 to get pick 4, we'd want to be getting GC F2 and adequate points for Croft this year.

10 + 17 + 36 + F1 for 4 + 42 + 47 + F2

This gives GC a very slight point upgrade but the premium we're paying to get into the top 5 is the future pick swap. We'd want to be very confident as a club that we're going to improve and that F1 is in the 12-18 range.

Oh s**t Trade Radio has started. Time for some self inflicted eardrum stabbing...
It's time again for the same 5 adverts to be played ad nauseam for the next 3 weeks while mostly irrelevant flogs make stuff up just to talk about it and come up with the most ridiculous 4 team trades.

So glad it's back. I'm jumping on now...............:gun:

You have to take risks to win a premiership or even to get into the top 4. Trading a F1 for a top pick this year in a very top heavy draft might be the risk required.

I don’t love it but Watson/McKercher would add something that this list drastically needs. A definite risk but a risk that could pay off.

I guess the risk is subjective on where we will finish next year. With our list I really can’t see a dramatic slide.

English/Naughton comments from his manager were just boiler plate, just waiting to get the final big offer put in front of them.

Re: Baz we need to act first if he is not committing next year. The club would know if he is just stringing things out to add a few dollars to the deal or whether he is legitimately want and see. If its the latter I do not trust that the club to re-sign him, need to move him on.

Yep, but I'll still listen at every opportunity...
