I don't mind Lobb going, I was against the trade in the first place and he won't be part of our next Premiership. Find someone cheaper for the second ruck role while Darcy develops and use Lobb's cash to lock in the upcoming Naughton/English contracts. Get what we can for him in any deal

Reg Lobb so what was the reason we chased him and brought him to the club 12 months ago ?

Are those reasons no longer valid ?
I’d suggest it would be something on his side we knew he was a mercenary was worth the risk didn’t pay off move him on

Jumping well ahead here but presuming Lobb does walk and we get no more than a single 2nd round pick for him (my personal expectation) after giving up 2x 2nd round picks last year, it adds to the issue that we have following the JUH and Darcy bid matches. We need more young talent from the top half of the draft, effectively burning a 2nd round pick for nothing is the last thing we need to balance the list.

Does it though?

It’s not like we signed him to a 7 year, $7mil contract a couple of years ago now trying to push him out.

There’s a lot worse that clubs have recently done that didn’t create too many waves.

Does it look bad to chase a guy hard, pay above value for him and push him to the exit 12 months later? Yes.

I would be surprised if its the case and if there is a Lobb exit, I imagine its because he was the one to push for it.

This is what we missed out on from that pick to our next not exactly missing much

So let's see:
  • Lobb (allegedly) gone
  • Smith still rumours that he'll go, if not this year, next year
  • McDougall only states Naughton and English will be at the Dogs "in 2024", and every club has enquired about Naughton

- Bont and JUH currently on the phone to their managers?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! (I'll give it another week before I decide if that is a sarcastic call... or one of resignation. 🤔)

(In spite of financial pressures, I managed to negotiate on the home front to extend our significant multi-membership outlay into 2024 - which will be my 51st consecutive year of membership. Also the last 28 years of that has been multiple social club, and also the past 25 reserved seats.

I will have a hard time justifying that outlay at home next year if all I do is come home after a 4-5 hour round trip from our home games seething and ranting, or yelling at the teev during interstate games.)

If we aren’t happy with his remaining contract, what’s the alternative? Keeping him on the list so we don’t look bad?

The example I used before.

Clubs have done far worse than what we could be doing with Lobb and haven’t come away from it looking too shabby.
You’d think given the amount of abuse Lobb copped on here most wouldn’t mind anyway he is a solid player was worth the risk given it was a massive deficiency

I’m not sure we chased him hard. I think it was just a matter of convenience, he was desperate to get back to Melbourne and we thought oh yeah we need a 2nd ruck/forward. It all just fell into place.

From memory St Kilda were the only other one’s interested

That’s fine if any of them become superstars I will aLSO beg for Sam Power to get the sack because that is the only rational thing to do
We're all only talking on hypotheticals here because Lobb has yet to be traded (although given the source who just mentioned it it looks likely) and his trade value is not yet known, but pointing towards a list of first year players and saying we didnt miss out on anything if such a scenario does eventuate is fairly ridiculous.

Melbourne are desperate you never know what they’d be willing to offer
They’ll offer us a swap for BBB or Tom McDonald 🙄

Why would we trade out a player who FINALLY can play second ruck for us?

A player who can play forward, who gets shithouse ball kicked to him and a forward line that’s clogged 90% of the time.

A second ruck that we’ve lacked since Boyd.

A good coaching panel that has Marra, Naughton and Lobb at their disposal is kicking 100+ points most weeks and playing finals.

Collingwood just won a premiership with Cox and Cameron FFS.
