I interrupt that as:

"We want to paint a picture that everything is fine. Make it appear as though we want to keep him."

Melbourne will be hoping other clubs pay a large price to trade a potentially toxic player.

Deep down I reckon the Dees are super concerned and they feel the consequences of keeping Oliver outweigh the positives. They'll be trying everything they can to up his trade value, and a way to potentially achieve that is to convince opposition clubs that their preference is to keep him.
Contrast to our handling of Jakey boy.

Yeah exactly it’s just spin. If you’re open to conversations and willing to trade for the right price, the player is up for trade. If clubs started asking about Bont do you think we’d be ‘open to conversations’

So say Hawthorn decide they want him at their pick 30 if he's still available, they'll give us a courtesy call to advise we'd better get him before that pick or else he's theirs?
Basically
They would go to dogs and say
What picks can you trade for him

That's one hell of a contract for any club to take on if his off-field issues are bad enough for Melbourne to consider moving him on so early into it, even if they chip in a chunk of it. Melbourne also have Angus Brayshaw on their books until the end of 2028 and there's speculation that he might never play again after his latest concussion. 🙅‍♂️

I think Mitch Wallis went on radio and gave him a spray pretty early on when the rest of the club were getting to make it seem like we wanted to keep him
Really?

I can't imagine Wallis throwing anyone under the bus.

I'm driving Bailey to glenferrie oval
All depends if North get an extra pick 3 for McKay. If they do I think it’s probably:

Norf - Harley Reid
GC - Jed Walter
WC - Curtin
Then either Norf - McKercher or Duursma
Or
WC - McKercher
WB - Watson, Duursma

I think we’d need Norf to hang onto pick “3” (4 after the WC bid) for McKercher to be a chance to get through. I can’t see WC passing on him if they get 2 early picks for pick 1.

Would struggle with a Baz for Watson outcome and we seem to have a hard on for Watson.

Watson is exactly what we need. Pace, explosive and goal smarts.

This seasons pre draft period melts have broken all records.

Some simple facts only one player traded out or left during the Beverage reign has shown to be any loss to us, that being Dunkley who is not a team player but a genuine professional footballer and left to be paid as such. Not a criticism of him just a reality.

Lobb going of he does is not further example we are a shambles of a club. It was a trade for a purpose that did not work out and more a reflection of him as this is the 3rd time.

Smith going is also a reflection of him. Firstly I really hope he is in a good place and the club is giving all the support he needs.

He is a professional footballer and reading the article in the last week where he himself says he did not fully invest in his role this season is a massive concern as that does not reflect a professional footballer. Unless this changes he may never reach his potential, and only he can change that. He says he will but there is definitely no certainty so a change of scenery may be best for both. Hope he stays personally but will not hold it against him or the club of that does not work out.

I am more concerned we hold onto players or give the wrong players too long of contracts, than worrying about who we have lost.

Gardiner getting a 3 year extension was baffling, 5 years for Daniel once he had been worked out down back and we are still not sure of his role and 5 years for Dale the same.

Daniel did show a bit high forward just not sure we will get value there, and surely Dale to the wing is the only way we could get significant value for him as he has been worked out down back too.

As for other players for other roles, players play the role that makes the team better, otherwise the team will never be successful. The art of coaching is playing them in that role and let them fully develop. Richards is an example here where since going back to his role in defence has continued to develop, so let him continue.

Dale and Daniel both we great when moved back but once worked out were left there so have gone backwards, so knowing when to try something else with your better players is also the art of coaching.

Thankfully in 3 weeks this will all be over so at least the melts will have some factual merit even if many don't agree

Tbh I’m not really concerned if Smith or English leave, I feel we would be compensated enough that we’d be able to get players in that aren’t constant underachievers. It’d be good if Smith turned around to his best again but that is no guarantee. Might have to be ruthless this offseason.

I'd prefer to be proactive with Naughton, Smith and English. Either start contract talks or listen to offers.

McClure still running with Hawks wanting Baz this year and willing to part with pick 3
Hypothetically, if we traded Baz for pick 3, would the club still want to trade ahead of a Croft pick and still target GC's 4 (6)? Weirdly enough, if we traded our future first, two 2023 firsts for pick 4 and also had pick 3, then that'd be a more desirable result than just shifting all our firsts for pick 4. I rate Baz, but two top six picks is definitely nothing to sneeze at.

You honestly don’t think it would be a big deal to bring in a 30yr old like Lobb for a fairly hefty cost on a 4yr deal and trading him for likely less than half of that a year later?
Stop perpetrating this myth.

He signed a 3 year deal @ 500k p.a. This came at the cost of a pair of 2nd round magic beans.

Totally.

My guess, if this is true, is Lobb wants out and we don't think its worth the hassle with a 30yo with three years left and try and rummage something decent back for him.

Don't think it makes sense that we would try and force him out.
See above.
I'm meh on Lobb leaving.

More embarrassing that we overpaid for him and he's gone inside 12 months. Complete opposite to the Grundy situation.

Board will implode if it goes down.

The Inbetweener will love this.
See above.

The catastrophizing over every rumour and tidbit relating to the club in here is an embarrassment.

This place has finally flipped over the edge and gone full ******.
