Wouldn't say that. Artie played a higher role, more akin to VDM and Mc Neil in the seniors

Isn't this more the last handful of games and Artie was more of a close to goal small earlier in the year?

The only reason to keep Clarke would be to protect the egos of the recruiting team who used a decent pick on a small forward without any speed two years ago. It would be a classic case of the sunk cost fallacy.

The draft was shit house.
Very few players after Clarke (and before in the same round) have kicked on.
Konstanty was rated higher and has been a bust so far.
Bobby Hill was average before he went to Collingwood and went bang. Toby Bedford is another.
They take time.

Have I missed something with all the Cleary hate and wanting to delist/pay out as he has a contract?

He’s been solid in the VFL, he has always performed when called upon to play AFL.

Is he a starter in our best team? No

Is he a liability when called on at AFL level? No

Is he decent depth that can be relied upon for a game now and then? Yes

You can’t have 40 best 23 players you need depth and role players on minimum money contracts.
Have to agree to disagree that he’s performed when called upon at AFL level. He’s still not even close to strong enough 1on1 and at this point I have doubts he ever will be

Hill and Bedford always had speed at least, something you can’t teach.

Smartest post on any bulldogs thread. Most small fwds take time. It’s the toughest position. Even more so at vfl level.
Kozzy picket Cyril are the two than leaked early and I believe Watson will also. Stephen Milne was delisted by Essendon before becoming an elite small fwd and kicking over 500 goals for saints. Even look at McNeil. He is 23 and finally starting to come good.
Just a little patience with the young boys especially those small fwds.

I believe he didn’t attend combine. Could be wrong though. I mean didn’t do the testing.

He did and his results were average. 3.10 over 20m and average agility. I thought his speed was fine from watching him play live though especially when he would hit top speed he did actually look quick.

My thinking with Clarke at the time he was drafted was he had to get his fitness levels up and push high up the ground and then quickly push back. Given his top end speed, he was more suited to that. The problem is his skills and composure aren't up to scratch and I can't see them ever being good enough myself.

Reading through the fox footy breakdown of each teams trade rumours is quite depressing. All the teams around us targeting best 23 players to improve and minimising what they lose.

Our rumours are all outs apart from that we were into Barrass and a hypothetical would we look a Tomlinson (god no).

It seems us, Richmond, Melbourne, Essendon and GWS are going to stand still or go backwards while everyone else gets stronger.
