Jay Clark suggesting the deal should be
Cats get Smith and 44
Dogs get 15 and 35

Is there any people in the media with any intelligence.

These type of deals are generally club losing player get 2 x firsts (unless it’s an early first) and give back a second with player. Occasionally accompanied by a complex pick swap later on to make everyone feel better.

Jay Clark seems to be just an opinion bloke, can’t remember him ever being on the money with much.

The annoying thing about the guys who suggest these deals are also the first to label how much of a bargain the deal was in round 1 next year

If Smith has bought property and has moved down to Belbrae or Newtown? And is working closely with Cotton-On in their HQ in North Geelong?
It’s going to be a real pain in the arse driving to Punt Road in Richmond or slightly better driving to Arden St in North Melbourne every day. Does his free agency time reset once changing clubs? Because he’ll have years to wait if this is the case😂
He wants to go to Geelong badly. He is not a free agent, not even a restricted free agent! We actually hold all the cards. We didn’t even have him this season, so we know what life is like. Why give him to those flogs in Geelong for peanuts? Number 7 draft pick, who we’ve nurtured, some would say babied and is in his prime now.

In this deal, we are the chicken and they are the pig.

Can't see any deal getting done without either a 3rd party or quality player involved.

Typical supporter like analysis from a supporter like 'Jounalist' (Lol) thinking deals a binary between 2 clubs which has never been the case

Completely different players. XOH more mid based and can do run with roles as well as play wing or inside mid. West is a half forward who can pinch hit in the midfield at best.
Harmes can do run with roles too but no point mentioning it when we don't use one. Whilst I agree the potential for a wing role is a point of difference, aswell as speed I think they both have the same potential to spend extra time in the midfield. Both will be half forwards.

I don't see it with O'Halloran. As a cheap option maybe not much to lose but it's been a pretty underwhelming first 70 odd games.

Think his best chance to make it is as a wing. Decent size, long kick are probably his best traits, maybe he could line up opposite to Bailey Williams
Completely agree. He’s had confidence issues since his injuries and being in and out of the side. How often does a low touch midfielder with confidence issues suddenly help a new team when traded? I can’t see him adding to anything except our VFL team. Such a waste of a list spot in a deep draft when we could find a decent player at the back end or in the rookie draft.

Peatling on the other hand comes straight in.

I rarely watch channel 7, but it was on last night when they were showing the Cats wanky Wednesday, with Hawkins at the end giving a message to Smith how good the club is, obviously put up by the network to say it. It’s just disgusting.

As a previous poster said the starting point needs to be what we would get for Smith if he was a free agent. Cannot be less than what the AFL assesss as fair. Then you factor in things like him being younger than your usual UFA, under contract, elite player and we start talking.
If still no agreement let him go through to the draft.

If he was out of contract it might be okay. But they will rightfully ask for more than he's worth, especially if they're losing Cumming, Perryman and possibly Peatling
I just can't see any value in what we would have to give up for him

I'd be happy with a future third, given the reduced point value as of next year and being a larger amount of father/sons, NGA and Academy players set to compromise that draft more then usual but don't want him if it takes anything from our draft hand this year.

With all academy/fs compromises in the draft we will end up with picks 20 & 40 which is actually laughable
