Jack deserves to be looked after which is true. Seriously though if the Aints won't cough up 43 then heck EM it's a 3rd round pick, Macrae is probably worth more but for years of great service we would take it to get him where he wants to go.

Anything less than 43 is the Aints trying to take the P1ss and we hang onto him. Saints convinced him to ask for a trade so it's on them to get a deal done.
We are off loading his salary with the shitty pick right? I’m happy with that.

so like i feel like this trade period we are getting no one am i correct??

i really wanted us to attack this trade period hard thats a shame

Sometimes it’s better not to do anything than do something out of frustration or pressure

If we do any trades as long as they are astute and calculated that’s fine

Whilst looking at on field improvement via trades we should also look off field coaches area. Lions just got S,Dew full time there is also need to address off field.
Still think we are one of few clubs that sticks to the salary cap in football department.

Hopefully we have one last run at Tomlinson. Maybe this is the year we finally snare him

Let's see what happens when trading actually starts (Monday).

Can't do much until then.

I remember when trade period started at the start of trade period.

Remember those days?

Simple times. Good times. Less mind numbing times.

On another note, fitting that as Macrae seemingly heads out the door that we go through all the different ways we've spelled his surname over the years...

They’re completely different players and play completely different roles,

Harmes before his hamstring was kicking goals and playing the half forward role well and then gave Libba a proper break in the guts

I realise that, but the talk was him playing midfield. Obviously Harmes is a better half forward but if it comes down to midfield depth, Macrae every day of the week.

Bont, Richards, and Darcy all out of contract next year and need $ too
Technically speaking Bont already on big $, might continue on for similar?
The two that will likely be in line for a pay rise are Ed and Darcy as you point out.
Also Treloar out of contract end of next year and the Collingwood money will disappear from his next contract.

There is no way Treloar will be on $900k+ with Collingwood putting up $300k on next contract. His renewal will be similar to what we are already paying him less Collingwood money

Especially with what we are losing

Just keep losing out to other teams. Losing out to Adelaide of all clubs was embarrassing
Money was a driving factor if was a significant amount over what we offered so no surprise we lost our.

Crows need to appear to be getting better so they are throwing cash around to do so. With Darcy and Bont also others that need to be accounted for we can't afford to get into bidding wars

Exactly this, Adelaide are throwing money around because they would have budgeted for 10 year salary rises of successful first round draft picks, which never came, so they have salary cap room that they have to overpay players to recruit, rather than underpay the retention of players you draft.

Thilthorpe, Pedlar, McAsey, C. Jones, McHenry, Gallucci, Milera, Doedee, their first round picks going back to 2015.

Most of these players aren't even on their list any more, let alone taking up the salary cap.

It means that they've actually fielded reasonably moderately competitive teams through a mix of not actually putting young first rounders on the park, and those players as a collective probably could have demanded more money, but they haven't, because their performance has been a bit better than predicted and some fringe 3rd rounder who is playing decently enough to prevent Adelaide from being a bottom 4 team, which you would expect with their lack of 1st round draft success (say Lachie Murphy, Lachie Sholl, Sam Berry) isn't going to go around demanding $400k a year or whatever.

Slightly similar to Carlton having cap room to recruit Cerra, Saad, Williams, Martin, Hewett, Fogarty etc. because their first rounders that they had budgeted for (Jaksch, Boekhorst, Petrevski-Seton, Dow, O'Brien) didn't kick on.

There must be some mediums to smalls at the lions to look at. They are already stacked and are getting Ashcroft and Marshall. There must be some players thinking they not be regulars at the lions but are more than capable at AFL level.

If we can get on the Shiel & Stringer trade I think we can O'halloran for cheaper.

Say dogs give 47 & F4 Get O'halloran
Giants give 52 & 55 get 31 Stringer & Shiel
Dons give 31 Stringer shiel get 47, 52, 55 & F4
