Plus he’d only nominate a 1-year deal not giving other clubs any security but with a handshake deal with Geelong to immediately extend.
If you picked him in the teens he’d want to play well for that year to keep his 6 pack followers happy and then you’d get Geelongs first rounder the next year if he still went. Cotton on wouldn’t let him sit out a year.

He’d be worth a punt for a team in a premiership window with a first rounder before Geelong.

I'm only trading MacRae for there second rounder and **** everyone else he stays otherwise, why make a rival stronger for no reason, MacRae should have played every game this year anyway, he played well everytime he got a chance our team selection sucked all year, the sub should always be someone very athletic or tough aggressive or both not a smart hard worker with great foot skills , losing and not playing MacRae is a huge mistake
I wouldn’t really call St Kilda a rival

I think the one thing that could work out with adding no players from other clubs is that the weaknesses in our 22 currently are positions that the players we’ve drafted in recent times could fill.

Darcy is the only player from the last three drafts that is solidified in the best 22 (probably Freijah too now but there is a question on where in the 22 he’ll play). Think we’ve got a pretty well settled core depending on how long some of the older guys hang around. Jones and Lobb as key defenders, the half backs where really solid this year, the main midfield rotation is super strong, Williams is solid on the wing and Darcy/Naughton/Ugle-Hagan/Weightman/West is a good, potentially great forward line. Main areas of improvement are a younger key defender to compliment Lobb and Jones, a half forward/fifth rotation midfielder, another wing and some pressure forwards.

Key defenders - Busslinger, O’Donnell
Rotation mid / midfield depth - Sanders, Gallagher
Wing - Freijah, Poulter
Pressure forwards - Jones, Clarke

A question mark on a lot of guys whether they’ll make it but the opportunity should probably be there for them to have jumps and maybe our improvement will come from that. Plus hopefully we end up with some half decent picks by the end of the period. Its probably better than bringing in a stopgap option for the sake of it but we’ve brought at least one player in each year since 2011, so wouldn’t be surprised if there is someone they’re targeting but its been kept under wraps until now. At the very minimum we do need to bring in a mature bodied back up ruck so we don’t need to rely on Lobb/Darcy if English goes down and maybe even put pressure on English’s spot if he has another sustained period like he had this season.

When it comes to pressure forwards, we’ve clearly wanted to address that in the draft too. O’Driscoll seemed earmarked for the running HHF role VDM’s been playing, had the perfect athletic profile - his head injury was just an awful situation in every way. When given the chance for a free hit in the mid season draft, instead of going for the utility we were linked to in Bianco, we took a punt on a similar player in Rypstra. Clearly a role we do want to fill.

as far as XOH a quick look at GWS draft hand this year after receiving 2 compo picks tells you they arent releasing a contracted player for 2024 junk picks. We may have more luck if we continue to pursue that with future picks
