Thought Gallagher had a good game last night in a more defensive role. Didn’t find a lot of the ball, but don’t recall him getting beaten often by his direct opponent.

It’s worth persisting with and definitely plays to his strengths rather than him running with ball in hand and turning it over.

Can see Bramble dropping out of the team once Fridge returns to the half back line, he hasn’t started the season well.

In the F/S thread, majorisin said Max is the better brother at the same age 😱
Sam and Max rotating through Foward and Ruck for years to come.
Thank you Luke and you wife for your amazing DNA
Luke Darcy told me Max is better than Sam late last year - after Sam kicked 7. I am not joking.

Thats exciting.

New is always better with kids though. Reckon there was something similar said about the second Liberatore.

My parents always said I was going to be a better sportsman than my older brother. I was not lol

Agree both points, think Bramble now has a learning curve to deal with. He caught teams off guard last season and now the attention paid to him has ramped up, under more pressure and displaying the tendencies that caused the Hawks to move on. But he has time to figure it out with all these injuries. If by the time Bont is back he's still playing poorly then there will probably be some heat on his spot, though that requires Gallagher to be going well in the backline too so we don't lose too much pace.

Gallagher as the Duryea replacement is going to be interesting - if he can hold down the fort defensively and provide speed out of the backline it does a hell of a lot for us. Glad we are trying it, think we should have earlier, he wasn't really working in the midfield.

But was Luke joking? Could be a running gag in the family.

I’ve heard this from someone who knows the family (not the family). It would be comparing at same age so anything can happen - plenty of examples of the early spud becomes a gun and vice versa. Development happens at different stages for kids, but in any event bloody exciting!

Looking at unrestricted free agents we could potentially look at to bolster our backline next season - very slim pickings but here are a couple of interesting options:

Dylan Williams - 185cm (Port, Age 23)
Forward turned defender, currently out of the team but supposedly a good kick. Melbourne boy

Josh Fahey - 187cm (Giants, Age 21)
Delisted and rookied in the off season following costume scandal. Lightning quick and good left foot. Canberra boy

Wayne Milera - 185cm (Adelaide, Age 27)
Proven, but plagued by injuries. Lifelong crows supporter, expect him to sign on.

Josh Fahey would be my choice, hasn’t really had the opportunity to prove himself at the Giants, playing only the 7 games - they are spoilt for choice off the half back line.

Has obviously missed the first few games with suspension and will be interesting to see if he gets a run when he returns. Had 39 touches, 10 marks, 5 tackles and 5 inside 50s in a VFL game last year before sustaining a serious foot injury. Could be one to watch.

Milera won't leave the Crows, he is extremely close with his family and won't upset that, especially after the Crows have looked after him so long.

Fahey could potentially be delisted again very much on the outskirts. I'd say he would be my choice aswell. That speed off halfback is something we have lacked since JJ could string games together, I'd have him ahead of current form bramble, Gallagher and Baker.

Williams shown alot of promise but hasn't come on as expected, potential medium at either end but doesn't really move the needle and couldn't see him being best 25.

Do any track watchers have an insight on Lachie Jaques? I know he’s a couple weeks away with injury but is there any reason to believe he could debut this season?

I’d keep Poulter and Baker. They are the bottom end players you need - on low $$$ and can come in and play a role. AJ, Scott, Doc, JJ at this stage.
I’m very conflicted on these guys. You’re right that they’re very serviceable bottom end players, but when you’re getting hits like Freijah and Davidson in the 3rd round is there more value in turning those lists spots over more frequently and having more picks each year?

I think it’s probably worth keeping them as long as they’re literally on minimum dollars, and as the salary cap and minimum contracts increase even draftee level wages is going to be more attractive for these guys than finding jobs in the real world.

I think he could. He’s clever, quick, skilled by foot, and a good mark.
By the time he’s back and has a few VFL games under his belt he’s possibly trying to force his way in over the current setup + Doc (if he recovers form) + JJ (if he can get fit) + Freijah (if he moves back when Bont and Treloar [if fit]) return + Cleary.

Hopefully if he gets games it’s because he’s outperforming those options above and not because all of those “if” statements don’t come true.

Bailey Smith just went at 28% disposal efficiency in the cats last loss. Thank dog we swapped him for Sam Davidson and change 😉
I'm so happy we got rid of the instaw@nker.
Not just because he is said w@nker, but the thought of paying him +800k for poor disposal efficiency, and woeful efficiency kicking for goals.
Super happy with MKennedy and Fridge in the guts, and Cooper has still got potential.

You could hear the commentators struggling to find something positive to say about his game.

I think Gallagher learned something in the second half against Collingwood.

In the first half, he was doing his usual turnovers, but I reckon he realised it’s okay to take a mark, slow things down a bit, and make a smarter decision. He just needs to find the right balance in his game.

He’s got traits you can’t teach—power, speed, and toughness. It’s just the footy smarts and decision-making that haven’t always been there. But I thought he had his best game on the weekend.

Until Bevo arrived, Easton Wood was an erratic decision-maker. With experience and good coaching, he turned that around. That’s my hope for Gallagher.

Feels like a few boys are struggling with form right now. But we are still getting the job done for the most part. That can only be seen as a positive. Imagine we get everyone going towards the back end of the season with a decent start?
