VFL depth is strong.
Would hate to see a player delisted unnecessarily.
Will be a difficult decision for the footy department.
Grigg, Butler and the third required departure could be Menadue or Weller.
Leaning towards retaining Weller.

What is the argument for retaining Weller?

Nothing against him but he is really up against it for our club with Bolton and co. If club decides to pick up Higgins in a money ball play because, even if contracted he would be cheap, on the age/injury risk case, Weller really is just supporting the twos!! I think those looking at interim mid support for Cotch and Dusty Higgins may not be a bad option

If anything I thought it would be smart for Welller to have a crack at another club because I see value but we are loaded in that area with plenty of younger types. You would think at least Gold Coast but he already was there before. Maybe even twos support at the Giants??

He ticks every box.. young, fast, tall, skillful. Except one.. can't produce it at AFL level. Look, if he is resigned, fine and if he can eventually perform at AFL level. then lucky us

He's had some exceptional games at AFL level, he's just not been able to it consistency, which tends to come with experience.
Not only that, but he's played more forward at VFL this year and has been much more damaging in that spot, I'd like to see him stay another year to try and push into that spot at AFL level

Ben Miller has had his chance hasn't he? Shown very little.

Only had two years on the list and last year was pretty much a write off. Would like to see him retained as a rookie though to help free up list spots.

So that means S. Higgins is a free agent? Wonder if he'd take less $$ to win a flag before he retires?

Not sure Moore will survive. We've got Chol, CCJ at minimum to cover him in the VFL. Plus Balta and Miller.

I reckon in a few teams Noore plays AFL. But against Jack R and Tom Lynch he's not playing AFL. And the young un's are passing him by.

With trading out Stengle last year, losing J Higgins for 2020, Bolton playing higher up the ground and Butler seemingly on his way out. We do need to have some depth small forwards...more than just aarts anyway. Would rather keep Weller than Menadue but that's not saying a lot.

You haven't been watching the VFL. Both have been playing forward, and Menadue has been much better. Markov has been playing deeper forward, and struggling to get a kick, Menadue has been playing high half-forward and killing it. The last six weeks he's had 4 bags of 2 goals, and 2 1s, averaging 19 disposals, which is elite for that position. Menadue is the clearly superior performer. My theory is there has been a contract in front of him for a while but the offers from others are much higher.

I think he has another year on his contract. When out of contract, any previous FA is an unrestricted FA again.

I keep hearing Petracca is gettable. Would happily part with our first plus Butler to get him across. I would back our club in to turn him into a superstar.

Rather than being higher I think just the opportunity to play 1st each week would be enough, similar to Lloyd although I rate llyod higher than Connor at present.. that would be my guess

Yeah, probably that too, although the chance is there for Connor at Richmond if Ellis leaves.

I've seen a game or 2 on TV and it's hard to work out playing positions. Playing anyone deep forward on a long term basis is hard to perform there. Half forwards have more room. Like Conca if Menadue has a good offer in front of him. Sayonara...we have more than enough depth. Lloyd has had opportunity at the Dogs and produced. Same with Miles. If our depth players get spots in other team 22s then good for us. Markov might get some chances next year and see how he goes. If he's not up to it then maybe Adelaide might come sniffing.

Remember Higgo comes back in 2020. Overall IMHO we don't have any really weak areas in the squad.

I personally would take a strategy of trying for a key top grade established player in a position we need (e.g. Crouch). Otherwise go to the draft. Trade picks if a situation arises. But have a fall back option of just doing the vanilla option of relying on picks.

So 1) plan and work for a big name FA or trade 92 years ahead or if someone comes up when the Crows implode), and/or 2) do a pick trade if it will help in the long run (help a team out if you end up with a win as well), but always know that 3) just doing the plain old take your picks to the draft is a really good option.

We are in the very strong position of not having to do anything in particular.

With jarrod Cameron looking likely on low coin right now and I’d imagine a tight tpp , I cant believe for the life of me why WC would stretch themselves to fit Bolton

I think he signed on for another year. He wasn't great when he played in the firsts.

Anything new on what our recruiting/improving our draft position plans are Tiger 71? There is absolutely nothing reported on us in regards to being linked to anyone this year.
