Something like #8, #34 and 2019 1st round pick

for

Dylan Shiel and #16

If we say that next years first is slightly worse (#11) because we make the 8, this values Shiel at #3.

Pretty sure we cant though. We gave up our first last year. unless we traded something out or a first rounder though

Just take Rankine.

Personally I would but he'll be a massive flight risk and you just know he'll tank the interview with our club (and the ones before us) if Adelaide are after us.

You see this a lot in NBA where teams drop back to get their man and gain something else at the same time.

But it's pointless if we finish above Adelaide, or Adelaide bet the farm on the other SA kid.

We can. We’re good for 2018 as we took three firsts in 2015 and 2016. And if you’re good, you can trade out next year’s pick. The fact it would mean you may not be good is immaterial.

Wouldn't mind a sneaky go at Cockatoo - if he got his body right he'd be an ideal complement as a wing/half forward/forward pocket

If he gets his body right , why then do Geelong let him go ?
They think a lot of Nakia, traded up to get him @10 from #14 iirc.
Besides, right now we already have our injury prone 'X-factor' who we can't get right. Seems we'll focus on Shiel...and Wallis if what we read here is anything to go by.

Doubt it'd happen but I'd love to pry Setterfield from them as well. He'd fill a more pressing need.

I have a conspiracy theory that the media have heard we are into a GWS player and have automatically assumed it is Shiel because of some earlier rumours of him wanting out when it is actually Setterfield

What are we willing to trade out to get this deal done?
It might be less a case of who we are willing to trade vs who asks to be traded for more senior opportunities at another club. Gleeson and Hartley are two who might be thinking about a new home.

How does Setterfield cover a more pressing need than Shiel? Shiel is an A grade star that does it both inside and out.

He is also the same size as Parish. We have enough small midfielders.
He's also 3 times the player Parish is. Setterfield has shown nothing so only covers a need from a development stand point. Shiel lifts our midfield to a level we haven't seen in years. Probably decades.

I'm getting a little sick of this small midfield shit and how desperate we are for a tall, big bodied mid. Since our bye we have won clearences 6 to 2 with a differential of +36. This includes Sydney and Freo who have the huge big mids in the comp.

Of the games we have lost clearences, we lost to Hawthorn by 2 and their biggest mid is 183 cm. The other we lost to Collingwood by 7 and it wasn't Pendlebury's height that was the difference in the last quarter (as he is their only mid over 6 foot)

We need classy mids with a bit of pace, grunt and good disposal and vision. Exactly what Shiel is and exactly why he should be a key target. We may have no chance of landing him but it should not be from a lack of trying.

2008 Hawthorn had a pretty small midfield iirc.

Not wanting a guy like Shiel because he isn't 190cm is crazy. He'd be our best mid slightly ahead of Zerrett IMO

I think its getting close to almost not picking any interstate players in the draft. They'll almost always use the go home factor as a reason to accept x amount of more dollars than the current club is offering.
