Shiel is a bit overrated as a player I feel. He's a good enough midfielder and will definitely make our team better, but he's no superstar.

Wouldn't do two 1st rounders for him. 2018 1st round + Laverde/future 2nd. I honestly wouldn't be that bothered if GWS reject that and we don't get a trade done.

I like that the deciding factor for Shiel was down to who could get the deal done... and chose Essendon. Coz we're the 'easy to trade with' club.

Pick 9 makes sense as a straight swap.

If we took 9 to the draft we have a 60% chance of getting someone as good as he is, and even then it would take 3 or 4 years of development.

Anything better than pick 9 is a win ...eg giving 9 and getting back Giants second rounder (25). Would be very happy with that. I guess the Giants may consider it given they would have lost Shiel to FA next year and couldn't afford his 2019 salary.

Dangerfield went for 9+28 after a 22 brownlow vote season for the Crows. Shiel is good but is a step below Dangerfield.
