There is a reason players are delisted. That reason is that the club delisting them couldn't even manage to get a late pick for them.

I meant I want to draft kids not pick up delisted spuds. Probably worded it poorly

Jarryd Lyons, Ricky Henderson, Matthew Wright, Tim Membrey, Joel Hamling, Mitch Robinson, Dylan Roberton are prime examples of DFA being genuinely good pick ups. But they were all delisted for a reason, hey?

Ok eth dog, I'll admit there is some good players in there. Lyons and hamling were both trades though. Which dfas would you like this year? Nick Robinson for me is a no. We already have an upgrade in Ambrosey. Menedue piques my interest, as does ben keays but only as a rookies.

Yes the majority are, that’s a very small sample.

Lyons and Hamling were DFA's for the Dogs and Brisbane. Nick Robertson isn't like Ambrose at all, he's much more prolific and plays better on smalls. Menadue I don't particularly rate though, Keays I'm a fan but he's a smaller, left footed Langford.

Of course it is, but there's always 1 or 2 quality ones every year.

I believe both hamling and lyons were trades. I also think if we were looking at Robinson it would be as big bodied tagger. We've got plenty of smalls. Ambrose did a job on fyfe which is where i got the comparison from. D clarke on cripps as well. If its keays you're showing slight intrest in would you be prepared to draft him in the national draft?

Lyons was traded from Adelaide to Gold Coast in 2016, then delisted in 2018 and picked up by Brisbane.
Hamling was delisted by Geelong in 2014, picked up by the Bulldogs then traded on to Fremantle in 2016.

Lyons was technically a dfa. But they had a mutual agreement . Everybody at the time said it was a strange move by gold coast. But sounded like Lyons pretty much said I don't want to play for you, get me out of here

With losing a few of the younger types in Jok and Mynott I'd expect us to purely turn to the draft now for kids

It's going to be an interesting off season for us. We have guys (who should be) ready to step in and fill the void left by the guys we have cut. The ones we need to replace are mostly small and utility type guys.

Hopefully with the guys we have cut, gives us an indication that we are going to address our midfield group by picking up one, hopefully two across the two drafts.

Ideally for mine, I would like us to go;

1 x KPF (Jake Riccardi)
2 x Midfielder (Cooper Stephens, Ralph HugoSmith)
1 x Ruck (Riley Bowman)

This group gives us a big body for the future, two midfielders for the future and a ruck/fwd who is 12 months into his (adult) maturity as a senior footballer.

Knowing Dylan Roberton personally, he wanted to go home and refused to sign the contract put in front of him by the Dockers too. So albeit technically a DFA, it was forced upon by the player.

Robertson. And I'd have little issue with using him as a medium defender or as a ball winning midfielder.

Some have posted previously Liam McBean has developed at Glenelg physically. Is he a chance to be rookied/drafted? Should we consider him with late draft pick.

I’m looking through the lens of we need a tall forward as back up and also him being mates with joe which may help keep joe next year...

Too one dimensional for me. He couldn't get a game at Richmond despite dominating VFL and Richmond having no second key forward for years.

I agree from his time at tigers he wasn't something I was impressed with but He wasn't physically matured then though.

McBean offers nothing more than what Stewart, Brown, McKernan can do. He isn't young enough to suggest "he is one for the future" and despite him doing reasonably well at SANFL level, he didn't exactly dominate at the level to shout "pick me".

It's a pass for me.

Robertson, we dont need medium defenders though, we're stacked. He is not a ball winning midfielder. He has a big body. He has done a tag job before. The bloke doesnt even average 1 clearance a game and he's 24. Would you be willing to use a national draft pick on him?

If the club thinks we're approaching a premiership window I'd say the targets would be more likely to be mature age players who can come in and make some kind of impact when called upon.

I think our age demographic is fine the players are there it's just whether or not they're good enough

Our 2017 and 2018 drafts are very light on bordering on non existent due to chasing Shiel. We need to be careful for the medium to long term to not add a 3rd year in a row of not picking enough quality 17-19 yr old kids

What do all of these guys have in common with each other?

The clubs they went to were all in the lower rungs of the ladder.
