Once again Dodoro missing the boat. Why not deal directly with Hawthorn? Pittonet is what? 24/25? He may not be better than Phillips but could be serving us better longer term for 2 - 4 years.

I completely disagree.

The thing that annoys me is that people use this as a reference. That no RFA has ever been matched. Which is true but that means the rule is there to be broken. Something that will happen eventually

Crows forced a trade on Dangerfield and Cats coughed up a first, a second and a player, which is all that was really possible at the time

Im meaning Pitonet may be on a par with Phillips but is 6 years his junior. Could be the #2/#3 ruck for the next 4 years with the opportunity to push into the #1/#2 ruck position

Fair enough. But isn't Pittonet actually really really bad and not just Ethan bad?

That has probably been the closest we have seen to a club matching a bid. It still wasn't free agency.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.

He was a free agent but was then traded, end of

Probably, but Joe is a serious weapon. If his groins hold up (and Swans seem to think they will) the two years out could extend his career to close mid 30s. They get his 26-29 peak years as well.
Potential is great. So is having someone who kicks goals instead of behinds. He's been in the system 8 years.

As I mentioned, he is on a par with Phillips imho.

Is he on par with Phillips or is it your opinion? I have heard many opinions to the contrary so...

Just curious, If we keep Joe, and next year don't match Sydney's 900k offer, what combo will we get?

Or if we match it, and force a trade, what will we get? Can he still walk for nothing?
Compo pick directly after our 1st. So if we finish mid table and recieve pick 9, we will recieve pick 10 as our compo. Thats if we dont match. If we do match then that forces Sydney to trade for Joe if Joe still wants to go. Then you get a similar situation as Tim Kelly is in this year. Technically in this situation Joe could walk to the national draft and try his luck there if Sydney again cant satisfy Essendon in a trade. But they will be able to. Would end up being 2 1sts still minimum. Their 2020 and 2021 1sts. Joe, Joes manager, Sydney and Dodo are all obvioisly aware of all these outcomes. They are just playing the game. Joe and his manager want to cash in on 4mil while its on offer (fair enough) Sydney are trying to poach him now while he's at his lowest value (also fair enough) and Essendon are happy to keep him because he's contracted and we need him (also fair enough). Sydney have all the work to do here.

This is exactly it. Essendon don't have much to lose at all by holding Joe to his contract, should it come to that. This is the system, as it stands. Sydney are the ones having to make the play. Watch the 'Dodoro hard to deal with' shite coming rolling out the second there is a disagreement on the player value, yet he's just playing the system to the benefit of his employer. As he should.

what was the compensation the Crows recieved for Dangerfield??

I'll wait..

Was 9, 28 and Dean Gore for Dangerfield and 60 something.

Essentially as much as you can give without trading future picks

He's an RFA so we have the right to match a contract, in that case Sydney must trade for Joe if they want him or he walks to the pre-season draft, which hasn't happened for quite some time.

Most likely we get a 1st round compensation pick next year if we release him as an RFA, which would be a pick immediately after wherever we finish (6 - 12 probably our range on the ladder). So a single first round selection this year is probably a wash with what we'd get next year.

This is the other aspect of the trade,
It isn’t a money related deal, the money Sydney are offering isn’t much more than what he is on at Essendon, I’m sure he will be offered an extension by Essendon worth more money.

I’d say it would have to be a 5+ year deal on 1.1-1.2 mill a year for Essendon to even consider not matching.

The compensation would've been pick 17ish as Adelaide played in a prelim the year they lost danger. He was a RFA and Adelaide said they were happy to keep so were going to match geelongs offer. Geelong didn't want it to get to that so offered 9, 28 and a player. This was obviously better than the compo pick so Adelaide accepted. Future pick trading wasnt in yet unfortunately for Adelaide. Would've been 9 and next years 1st easy for Danger.

It was in actually, as Geelong used their future first to get Henderson the same period.
