I’ve seen trading Shiel, Merrett and AMT thrown up on here, to me that’s panicking.

It doesn’t mean we don’t need to uppercut ourselves and smarten the hell up but to me that’s throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Where do we want to go and what do we need to get there, that’s essentially what it boils down to, and if everyone else in the competition can feasibly ask and answer those questions without turfing everything we have that’s remotely good then so can we.

This is the thing with some of the trade suggestions thrown up, the ones we could look at moving on are the guys we are shaping to fit into that round hole, not guys who already fit it unless we can replace them already.

Merret I probably started purely as a hypothetical, how bold and brave were we willing to be. Some have taken it and ran which was not my point at all.

I want us to look at the Port Adelaide (circa 2018) approach. They made a few tough list calls on some very talented players, made some astute free agency plays and hit the top end of a good draft and nailed those picks to get them to where they want to be than most would have thought.

If we make some smart list decisons then we won't need to go to the depths of the ladder for very long, we have some very good pieces to an already complicated jigsaw already in place. No need to hit panic stations as some are suggesting

Is this draft the right draft to do that? Especially with list cuts and all?

Trust us to go after a guy who has attitude and professionalism question marks on him. How about we worry signing Ridley, saad and Mcgrath first.
I mean. You can do both at once.

If we were to get aggressive...

Get band 1 for Joe = Pick 6 after our pick 5 (come on Suns).
Saad out to Blues for Pick 7 (they'll probably want something back)
Tippa out to Lions for Witherden and 18
18 to GCS for Wright and Fiorini
Pick 7 to Cats for 15 and 16

Pick 5 - Will Phillips
Pick 6 - Tanner Bruhn
Pick 15 - Eddie Ford
Pick 16 - Nikolas Cox

Also match and take Brand and Eyre.

Hit and miss side in 2021 and 2022 but emerging 2023 after 2 more 1sts and the Davey twins.

Well they’d have to be offering de goey 900+ a year for him to considering it, plus give up first round draft picks. So, no i don’t think you can.
The price is irrelevant, but you can talk to players from opposition clubs whilst negotiating contracts within your club. It's exactly what a list manager's job should be.

I’d rather keep 18 than have Fiorini and Wright

Well, Carlton will finish ahead of Gold Coast regardless of GC winning. So there's that. And there's also the fact that we won't trade Walla. And please no Phillips.

My post is completely hypothetical and I don't think the club will do anything like that at all, But Port fans didn't want to trade Wingard and Howard, I think we need to get aggressive.

If he can play 70-80% midfield, yes please.
So you don't want the "unprofessional" Sier for playing a game of basketball but you do want the bloke who has been charged with sexual assault and past drink driving offences?

It is absolutely nuts we'd even ask the question. Something has gotten into the water supply at The Hanger.

Fair enough. I don't think we'll trade Walla. Especially with Fantasia's fitness issues, Mozzie being out for next year. Snelling would be the #1 small forward if that were the case.
Yeah definitely but I don’t think de goey is one we should be targeting, with where our list is currently at.
Fair call.

That is a very good point. I will concede that.
In that case the article is probably bullshit. We can’t trade our first rounder this year or next.
I don't doubt that we're unlikely to get him but I reckon if he goes it'll be to somewhere like Brisbane.

Sooo that could be another first round pick pissed away then? When are we going to realise we are not in a window to win any flags in the near future. Let's just take what we can to the draft and build a team capable of sustained success from within.

huh? We aren't allowed to trade our first rounder this year or next, unless we bring another one in. We have to take two firsts to the draft over the next two years or we'll be banned from future trading until we do.

Ah yes, my bad, thought it was only a future 1st we couldn't trade.

Retirements being announced and players letting clubs know that they'll be exercising their free agency options. Think its time Joe makes up his mind whether hes staying or going. Saad has said he'll inform us after our last game. Joe should do the same so the club can make some decisions.
