Wow , now you have baited me ........so we judge a player by the position he's drafted do we ...?

Seems to be what happens when we try to get another player from elsewhere. Oh, you want that player we used pick 54 on 3 years ago? Second Rounder kthx. Oh? We want YOUR first rounder? Take this pick 35.

Doc to Carlton
Kane Lucas to Melbourne
Pick 7 and Polks to Melbourne
Pick 2 to Brisbane

overall
Melbourne gain Polks, Lucas and Pick 7 lose Pick 2
Carlton gain Doc lose Lucas
Brisbane gain pick 2 lose Doc and pick 7

obviously need more to Carlton (what is Lucas worth?) and perhaps Melbourne needs more, could possibly do the same with the hawks i.e. savage to Melbourne and Patty K steak knives etc.

Should ask on our board to get a general idea. Don't think he is actually contracted which if true means that we are looking to trade him.

Leppa has stated that he wants more high end talent and Kerr has made comment (and proven previously) to get as high in the draft as possible and tap out by the 30's. So I'll have a crack:

Longer for Hawks 17 and Savage
Yeo for WC second rounder
Polec our second rounder and WC Second rounder for their first
Savage and Docherty to Carlton for their first

Leaves us with 7, 13,14 + 18 in the first round and taking Jono Freeman covers the five that left. Upgrade Clarke and possibly Hayes

Some might say overs to get into the first round especially for Ports but more than welcome to make adjustments were you see fit. Also taking into account that we are into Savage but if he chooses Carlton it's a way to use him still to make some gains. Karnezis could also be thrown in to get Carlton's first rounder if need be. I've also taken into account Collingwoods FA compo for Daisy

This = Yeo, Polec and our second rounder (~26) for pick 14. I think that's overpaying.

Nice work...

I'd like:

Longer for Hawks 17 and Savage (we keep Savage)
Yeo for WC second rounder
Polec our second rounder and WC Second rounder for Port's first
Docherty and ???? to ??? for their first?
Patty K for Paine

I tend to agree. But what is Port going to give us? Their second rounder which could be at 33 after FA compo picks.

So I stead of having let's say a possible three mid second round picks at 26,27 and 33 ish we elevate ourselves further up the draft for Port's first round pick which I get the impression you would have to pry the dead fingers off it.

Fair point and if they are interested in Hampson as rumored they might need at least one second rounder.

Crows get Polec
Carlton get Docherty, Henderson, Crows 3rd Rnd
Brisbane get Carlton 1st Rnd and Hampson

Trade Scenario:
Docherty + Aaron Cornelius: Pick 14 (Carlton)

Yeo + Todd Banfield + Pick 59 (Brisbane): Pick 24 + Pick 40 (West Coast)

Polec + Pick 24 (West Coast) = Pick 13 + Pick 30 (Port Adelaide)

Karnezis + Pick 30 (Port Adelaide) + Pick 59 (Brisbane) = Pick 21 + Pick 37 (St Kilda)

Longer + Pick 25 (Brisbane) = Pick 17 + Pick 20 (Hawthorn/Buddy Compensation)

Pick 20 (Buddy Compensation) + Pick 21 (St Kilda) + Pick 37 (St Kilda) + Pick 40 (West Coast) = Michael Hurley or Sam Reid or Robbie Tarrant

In’s:
Pick 7: Ben Lennon
Pick 13: Nathan Freeman
Pick 14: Billy Hartung
Pick 17: Matt Crouch
Pick 41: Jonathan Freeman (Brisbane Lions Academy)
Pick 77: Justin Clarke (Elevated Rookie)
Michael Hurley or Sam Reid or Robbie Tarrant

Outs:
1). Jared Polec
2). Aaron Cornelius
3). Patrick Karnezis
4). Elliot Yeo
5). Todd Banfield
6). Sam Docherty
7). Billy Longer

Cornelius has little to no trade worth IMO. He doesn't even qualify as steak knives. That's not to say that a club won't be interested in him but I just can't see him returning anything of value. He's most likely to be taken as a delisted free agent if he ends up moving.

Interesting and I appreciate the time, effort and imagination, but it reminds me of those eBay trades where they start with a match stick and end with a house

True what you are saying, buting looking at Carltons needs, might hold some value to them considering he has AFL experience under his belt. Plus if Waite and Henderson get injured and the lack of key position talls in this years draft, they might consider him as back up.

Would definitely not want to give up 2 second rounders + 2 third rounders for Michael Hurley either. Very overrated player IMO.

Michael Hurley might be abit overated, but at 23 years of age he would be our Centre half forward and back for the next decade or so. There will be 7 or 8 changes to the list, plus you have to include Justin Clarke and Jonathan Freeman to those changes. We will be wasting our picks or not get a return value for the players we will lose via trade.

I think you might have traded out pick 59 twice sorry.

According to the Phantom Draft
Pick 7: Ben Lennon, Half Forward/Outside Mid
Pick 13: Matt Crouch, Inside Mid
Pick 17: Trent Dumont, Inside/Outside Mid
Pick 20: Zac Jones, Inside Mid/Half Back
Pick 24: Pat Crisp, Mid

But I think with luke mcguane already at Brisbane they should play him down back with merrett Clarke and patful.
Pick 7: Ben Lennon, Half Forward/Outside Mid - All Class this kid has to ability to become an A grade midfielder
Pick 13: Matt Crouch, Inside Mid - Excellent at clearance and stoppages take over from moloney in two years hopefully still there at pick thirteen, would be a bargain.
Pick 17: Mitch Harvey, KPF - bought him forward a fair few spots just because he fills our needs has the big body of 195cm and 97kg and can replace brown as soon as browns done.
Pick 20: Luke Dunstan, Inside Mid - More depth to the midfield, not a star of the game but will always give 110% and a born leader lenny hayes type player.
Pick 24: Rory Lobb, Ruck - a player that I have added just because of our needs. Longer looks set to go and he is the best ruckman in the draft 205cm 98kg needs some developing but hopefully with a preseason under his belt can play senior games in his first year if something happens to the berger (hope not)

There my thoughts if we have those picks that are said above
